I am applying to the Air Force although my recruiter is horrible, he has promised to start my application process for over a month now and just seems to be sitting on the application. I contact him weekly, trying not to be too pushy, and the only replies I get are more or less: "Sorry, but I have been extremely busy, I will start this ASAP and get back to you tonight or tomorrow." I have yet to hear back from him regarding my progress.

Is there anything I can do? Can I go through a different recruiter outside of my region?

On a side note, the Navy has been awesome; super friendly and responsive, they make me feel as though they are actively recruiting me, not the other way around. I will be flying to San Diego in a couple weeks to check out the Navy Dental Corps first hand and the Navy is footing the bill; I have been very impressed with the Navy thus far.

Hey I had the same situation with the Army and the Air Force. The Army seemed like they didn't know what was going on most of the time, while my Air Force recruiter has been on top of things from the beginning. The point I'm trying to get at is to not form all of your opinions based on your recruiter. The Army also sent me to San Antonio (I'm from Michigan) for free. But after doing research, I know the AF will be the best option for me....and they did not send me anywhere for free. The branches that are sending people for free are the branches struggling to find people.......this can be an indication as to what is in high demand......AF scholarships. That's just my two cents. You may like the Navy better for other reasons as well: stationed on a coast, being out at seas, etc..... Good Luck

I've PMed you his contact info...

By the way, maybe I'll be seeing you at UCLA next year. I'd like to have another classmate on the HPSP scholarship who I could associate with....

I feel your frustration. It may be too late to get the 4yr AF HPSP this year now, but that doesn't mean you can't get a 3 yr and still be put on waitlist for the 4 yr. If you don't get a 4yr usually they give you 3yr starting from your second year. I am with the AF and my recruiter has been pretty on top of things too. He's in the northern California region so may be closer to where you are. Hope this helps.

Hey maybe I'll join both of you at UCLA next year. I'll be interviewed on Friday.

Your money.....just crack the smile and act like a cool cat........will you decide to go to UCLA when they accept you?

Hattrack04,
Ill see you next year, and ill be on the hpsp with the AF too. I actually met you at the penn interview. From the sound of it there might be multiple people at UCLA next year on the scholarship, that should be cool.

bass for less,
how can it be too late to get a 4 yr scholarship if the first acceptees have just gotten their letters of acceptances? The only way you could have gotten scholarship is if you already were in dental school?

You can be accepted for the scholarship before your're accepted into dental school.......you just cant swear in until you get an acceptance from dental school

Like hattrack said, I was conditionally awarded the scholarship in October, even before some of my school interviews. A lot of people apply to the scholarship along with dental school application. AF does the evaluation process in parallel to streamline application (there is a pre-screening based on your grades and dat scores). My advise is to start the process as soon as possible to get into the queue. There may still be 4yr slots remaining. When I talked to my recruiter last time in october I think he said 15.

Thanks for the tips hattrack. I'm already pulling my hairs on which school to go... I know so many people putting LA as their top choice and I would seriously consider it if there's an offering! Are you guys choosing LA because you want to specialize?

Dam😡
Well at least I got an acceptance on December 1st. I just completed my whole application so hopefully I'll get something out of it.

Even if you don't get in until the 2nd year it wouldn't be all that bad. You lose some stipend and may have to borrow some for the first year. But you also get out a year sooner :meanie:. I am sure you can at least get a 3yr scholarship applying now.

Thanks a lot guys, I really appreciate the help. I shot a couple e-mails to both of your recruiters regarding my situation.

As far as UCLA, I am 99% sure I will be going there and it will be cool with other HPSP students there as well. Thanks again for the info and see you next year 🙂

Looks like I am out of luck; hattrack04's recruiter contacted mine to get him started on everything, but by the time the guy started (today) he found out all the scholarships are gone. He never even had the guts to tell me this, hattrack04's recruiter told me.

I should have had an automatic scholarship from my stats, but because my recruiter was too lazy to do anything there are no more available.

His name is Stevenson, James L TSgt 368 RCS/XF

I would look into others before him...

Avoid him at all costs!!!

if you complete your app., they will pretty much guarantee you a 3 yr. scholarship which would start at the beginning of ur soph year........if you still want a 4 yr scholarship, I'd look into the navy..

I guess now there are 4 available from people dropping out, and I am going to fly out on Monday for the physical. What does the physical entail? Just a standard doctor examination like those needed back in high school for sports?
