i know you haven't learned how to act right yet, but having a million little threads about your overly-hyped acceptances is not something every other medical student wants to read about.

i know your parents and friends are probably like "OMG, you are sooooo smart!!!" or "OMG, you have come so far!!!"

but for the rest of us in medical school, we know that such an accomplishment isn't really a big deal. we know that we have many more years of much more difficult things to come. but most importantly, we know that overzealous behavior such as that exhibiting on the allopath front page is a medical school faux pas.

this is not the free-for-all, pre-allopath forum where you can post about your kittens and how your O-chem teacher is mr. meany...

so until you can act appropriately, please keep non-medical threads out of the allopath forum. We appreciate your willingness to help.

thanks,

who asked you to read them? if you dont wanna read the thread dont open it you fool, i would have thought that you would have been at least that intelligent to figure this out. Now that I know that you're not, i'm telling you NOT to read them.

FYI, we can post anything we want regarding ALLOPATHIC medicine, and seeing that all of are already accepted to ALLOPATHIC schools, we can post here.

If you claim to be a mature med student, then why dont you stop b*tching!?

BTW....the MODS moved us here, it was not our option.

why don't you complain to the mods...afterall they moved them

on a side note, it would be entertaining if someone bumped all the Class of 2009 threads

Dude these were moved here by board admins.

Why you gotta be a dick?

TypeB has a point here. Was his approach the greatest, probably not, but he does have a point that could be debated.

No need to jump on him for not knowing the MODS moved the threads here, he might not spend much time on the Pre-Allo forum.

The point is moot, most of the threads are now about meeting up and finding housing, not about celebrating the fact that the people in the thread were accepted to a US Allopathic school.

It is still really annoying, regardless of what it is about. Those threads have totally taken over the forum. I think most of us are really glad to have the new people over here, it's just the threads that need to go.

Oh, I'm sure they are annoying, someone in pre-allo suggested a separate forum for these threads, I think that is a good idea.

I proposed this idea on the pre-allo board for feedback.

Create a forum called Schools
Have sublistings for each school where people can post specific questions and rejoice over their acceptances. This would eliminate clutter on the main forums.

OP...calm down....once school starts u won't see c/o whatver threads anymore...that is until july of 2006 comes around

I really don't know what threads should go where but is it that hard to ignore certain threads?

What IS annoying is people already IN medical school (or anywhere else for that matter) thinking they're the only ones who have experienced any adversity. How pathetic and myopic.

What SOME of these people fail to consider is that there's much more to life than being L2/L3/L4 student at school x, y, or z.

Furthermore, some of the "kiddies" entering school have experienced much more of life than the average "wise old sage" medical student; many of whom have never truly supported anyone or anything, including themselves.

I don't know much about what medical school is like since I haven't started; consequently I won't try to make intelligent statements about it. However, I do know that there's plenty of wisdom to be found outside of medical school...which is good for everyone to remember.

please, a little more civility.

To the Class of 2009: if you want other med students to read your posts and give you useful advice, then keep the forums clear of extraneous crap so we'll be interested in hanging around. If I see one more thread about "should I have a dog during med school" or "what books should I read during the summer" or "how should I prepare for MS1" I will give up SDN for the summer. USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION!

Sounds to me like someone is a little jealous of either MS1s and their blissfull naiveity OR that all these "unwise kiddies" got into schools at which the OP couldn't manage to do the same.

you preach it brother!!!

it's like if a person was to paint his/her house bright green after getting accepted to medical school. it's not that it affects my house directly, but it affects the overall community. stop being so obnoxious.

getting into med school isn't really as big of a deal as you all are making it out to be. i'm happy for you guys, but just calm down and make one big thread where you can boost each others' self-esteems rather than clutter up the entire allopath forum.

correct, i did not know they came from the pre-allo forum.

these threads are inappropriate for the allopath forum. there is no debate needed.

this sounds like the best solution

i can realize the desire to communicate with future classmates and organize housing, etc... but, it still doesn't ameliorate the inappropriate nature of these threads.

okay there's no need to be a war between the new ms1's and the rest of the med school students ... you newbies just have to understand that a lot of us come on here to discuss things about classes and other issues and problems, and that if someone posts something, it's going to be obscured by all these "class of whatever" threads that doesn't apply to the entire allopathic community. this forum should be able to help everyone, and it isn't helping when there are a lot of threads that pertain to one particular school cluttering up the entire first page of the forum. i dunno about you guys, but i only LOOK at the first page, and if i don't see something interesting i just leave. lately all i've seen is "class of whatever" threads, most of which i can't read or contribute too. i agree with whoever said that all these threads belong in a separate forum ... cuz you guys really aren't pre-meds anymore, and not yet ms's either. there's nothing we can do about it though, so i think everyone should just stop the b*tching and get on with life.

(i just wrote this so that the new ms1's would understand where we are coming from)

you have a grand mastery of the semi-colon

real men of genius. today we solute you, mr. semi-colon-every-other-sentence-user. some men use periods. other men use commas. but ask any real man and he'll tell you that that it takes a far greater human being to master the meter of the english language. here a sem-icolon, there a semi-colon, only the erudite few can rise above the plebian point we call the period. so grab a cold one and kick back while you laugh at the masses and their colloquial cadence because today... we solute you... mr. semi-colon-every-other-sentence-user!

yea, especially since i'm at a top 10 school which just happened to be my 1st choice. fantastic!

man you guys really need to calm down, there is no need to flame each other

i cant help but to think this discussion takes place on a yearly basis

Although technically I should be on the pre-MS1 side as I myself am still 2 months shy of being a real, actual student...I am going to have to go ahead and agree with TypeB here.

I like to come here and read about the issues current med students are dealing with and all this c/o stuff that appeared makes this place feel like the pre-allo forum. I understand the mods moved it all here, so no one is really at fault, which is why all the animosity should cease.

I love the idea of a separate "schools" forum.

If all of you whiners can’t use your supreme intellect to sort through forums and threads on SDN, how the heck are you going to read through a patients chart (some have 100s of pages) and pick out the important information? Grow up and learn to be a little more tolerant and patient.

(I do agree a schools forum is warranted, however I don't see why everyone needs to complain so much) – If it has truly gotten you that upset, you are spending WAY too much time on SDN!

Because the role of an MD license plate is a really pressing issue? Oh, lets do clear room for that one.

The threads are for exchanging information about matriculation, not boosting self-esteem. That's why having one monster thread wouldn't be effective; people would have to sift through all the other school information to find stuff relevant to his/her own school.

For future reference, acceptance threads (ie: the c/o 2009 threads) belong in allo/osteo rather than pre-allo/pre-osteo since these folks are actually accepted & discussing that.

Since med students are good at sifting through tons of seemingly random information, these *extra* threads in the allo forum should be no problem to gloss right over. ;)

Guys, whatever you may think about Type-B, you're going to encounter tons of people like him in that magical land of puppies and sunshine called medical school. As you claw and scrape your way up that totem pole of medical hierarchy, there's ALWAYS going to be someone higher up reminding you that you are not a beautiful and unique snowflake, and no amount of "real world" outside experience is going to make a difference. You may not believe me now, but you'll understand in a few months.

 Type-B for keeping it real

Both sides have valid points, so please put yourselves in each others' shoes before jumping down each others' throats...

That being said, DrMom, is doing an "incoming med student" sub-forum possible? Having "class of" threads for every single med school in the country would be frustrating to sift through on a regular basis for people with dial-up connections(especially since "pre-allo"/med-students-to-be [as a whole] often are more active posters due to having more free time than med students [as a whole]).

Just my two cents...not sure why I felt the need to post since I am technically no longer a part of the allopathic student community :D

Until day one of class, they are PRE-MEDS. I too wish these threads would go away.

I have noticed that every thread that I read from typeB-md is horribly negative. have you ever considered meds for whatever ails you dude? Also, were you always like that, or did school change you? What school do you go to?

how many of those adjectives did you look up in the thesaurus? did you look up any synonyms for dick head? i'm sorry, did i not make an "intelligent" comment because of my language? your anal personality will not get you far in medicine...if you are complaining about the orginization of an INTERNET FORUM. COME ON... for christ's sake, how are you going to deal with patients , orginization of hospitals; how are you going to deal with life? you must not have one.

and don't respond to this. i know words don't get through your thick head...and though we are all very, very, very smart people...sometimes a good ass kicking still is the best medicine, right doc? just let me know when and where. you were THAT guy in school I bet...its people like you that make students bring guns to school. Think about it, shut up, and move on. there is a debate about it. everyone is right. you jumped the gun and made an ass of yourself. Im sure you did a few times at the hospital, but didn't have the balls to talk back to the attending... so take it like a man, dont take it out on the new med students. we out number you by the way. smile! ;)

I know the summer b4 med school is an exciting and often scary time.....And you should all be proud of your accomplishments:)

all you pre-MS1's need to understand that in med school its not cool to be so freakin gung-ho about stuff. Whether thats right or wrong, its that way at most schools.

In med school, you don't ask anyone what they got on a test, if asked how something went you say it was hard. When you hear about someone who fails and has to decelerate you say thats sucks and I hope he's ok.

People who don't act this way get labeled "gunners." "Gunner" is the dirtiest word in the medical school volcabulary. A gunner would sell his sister into sexual-slavery in a cheap brothel in southern loas to get an ortho residency. A gunner would beat up a wheel-chair bound homeless child if it meant more points on step 1. I even heard about this one gunner that ate babies.

In any case....the point is that often times such excitement about med school, that compels really nice and down to earth pre-MS1's to ask about which anatomy book they should memorize this summer, comes across a little gunnerish.

So in closing: You can own a dog in med school, reading anything b4 you begin classes is the dumbest idea ever.........

Now go get wildly drunk, blazingly high, and go see just how amazingly well "I'm starting med school in a few weeks" works in a bar :)

Me too. And I think it sucks that the people who run the site aren't at all concerned about the posters who have been posting in this forum for the last year or two. From what I've read, it seems that the majority of established allopath posters do not want the threads here.

However, we still want the posters. Or at least I do. :)

I have a grand compromise. But first let me babble. On one hand I am one of those pre-ms1 kids who out of sheer boredom read and posts a few blurbs now and again. However, I also hope that Satan has reserved a special place in hell for my overzealous fellow preme's. So on to the compromise... how about we the newbies be allowed to keep our posting right's (it makes me feel good not to have to click on the pre-osteo thread) with the restriction that we communicate only information that is pertinent to getting drunk, laid or envied by future classmates.

Hey, keep the threads about recent acceptances coming, and in fact, please do boast about getting into medical school. Why, you ask...

...because med school is the end of all the fun my friends. enjoy it while it lasts, and then you can slowly degenerate into the cynical MS-whatevers that made fun of your threads.

Im kidding, don't take my posts seriously until after June 17th... I think i go to the only med school that hasn't finished the damn school year yet

i have a brilliant idea.

let's litter this with "class of xxxx yyy hospital zzz residency program"

then post "w00t. i got accepted!"

can we do that? huh? can we? can we?

I am torn. On the one hand, I like to read the c/o 0f 2009 thread for my school. On the other, after seeing what a useless piece of flaming dog poop (hmmm, is that redundant? was there ever a useful piece of flaming dog poop? I wonder....) pre-allo has turned into after all the threads about starting one's own mdapplicants profile, are pets allowed in med school, men have dongs while women have snatches threads, I am actually concerned that the allo forum will also be run over by such mundane and cretinous (yeah that's right! I said cretinous. Since this thread deals with the mortality of sensible threads on the allopathic forum, I felt that it was warranted) threads.

Of course once can sift through the threads. But it's gotten to the point that I don't even visit preallo anymore, AND I AM NOT EVEN A MED STUDENT YET!!. I don't want that to happen to allo.

I like brettbachelor's idea about a forum for schools. Maybe the mods will consider it....
