Cardiology 2010-2011 application thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey forum, just received a rejection from IUPUI.
Was Wondering if anybody else got a rejection and what the rejection email says...
I'm beginning to feel like I'm just canon fodder with all the canned rejection emails.
And I'd like to know how many interviews people have completed thus far. Obviously I'm not referring to the many geniuses who have > 10 interviews. I am addressing regular people like me. ( so far have had only 2 interviews)

Thanks Board!

You're not cannon fodder. A lot of it is luck (being at the right place at the right time) as well as who your PI knows elsewhere. Genius has very little to do with the application process. Some of your success will also depend upon how realistic your application was (e.g., someone who doesn't have a lengthy CV replete with publications and top 20 pedigree for undergraduate, medical school, and residency, but is applying to all the competitive programs will naturally have a lot of rejections).

Anyway, I have 6 interview invitations thus far.

I completely agree.
The PDs look for very specific things and your application might have everything except for that one 'specific' thing and your application will be rejected. Also, application screening is very random and lacks any sort of predictability.
As I understand, you are an attending (based on your status). PD of our program screens out all the applications from applicants that are out of cycle. That might be a reason why even though you have an excellent application (I presume), you have received many rejections.
I had a friend who matched to a top 20 program with only 4-5 interviews and a LOT of rejections. Give your interviews your best shot and who knows!!
Good luck..

I am in the same boat. So far 2 IVs..... I should get one more from my own program...:xf:.......that too I sometime doubt because of these daily rejections. I have my first one comming up next week.

Anyone heard from Winthrop?? Any idea if it takes external candidates? Thanks.

Any one heard back from Colorado, UCI, Cedars and Stanford?

got rej from Cedars last wk.....

Yes, I have an interview from Colorado. I have NOT heard from Cedars or really any program in California for that matter (Stanford, UCSD, UCSF, etc).

Anyone heard from University of Albany and SUNY Downstate?

Received an invite from SUNY Downstate on Friday-4th.I have not heard yet from University of Albany. Any inputs/information on SUNY Downstate,Brooklyn, NY program. Thanks for your help

Perhaps it would be useful to have that list from several weeks back about who is "inviting/rejecting" that way folks can keep tabs for themselves???

Rush and Henry Ford invites in the last 1 week. Anyone heard from Cleveland Clinic yet?

Yes, received Cleveland Clinic invite last week.

Is this a waitlist from UCSF or a standard reply 🙄

"Although you will not be coming for an interview, we will retain your application on file should something change in our selection process."

I got the same messaage, i would not consider it a true wait list

Did everyone hear either way-IV or Rej from BIDMC,boston?am asking as they sent out snail mails and I was wondering if everyone got it.....

Albany sent an email 2-3 weeks ago that they started review the application and will let us know.

As i am starting my ivs (done 5-6 by now), i am trying to keep up with my "thank you" emails...it is not that easy of a job. What is the ideal time to send those emails (ie 1day v/s 3days v/s 1 week)?
2-Is anyone out there having this problem of not receiving any reply email, especially from the program director? (on average i have received about 30% of replies only from of the faculty i met, none from any PD!)
My impression was that the interviews went really well, not sure why i am not gettign replies...can you please share your experiences?
Thanks!

I got the same message from UCSF... and no idea what it means.

Got the same message. I have no idea what it means.

and UAB brings up the rear. Finally.

Anywhere else still pending? I don't think I have any more programs that haven't said yes or no to someone

This UCSF message is a weird rejection letter. UCSF will interview more than they need and I am pretty sure that there is no wait list. Would be better if they sent a more honest message.

I am still waiting for Vanderbilt, Cleveland Clinic, U of North carolina, Colarado...

How many of you guys have heard from Stanford?

They keep telling me that they're still interviewing CA applicants only, but it's getting mighty close to when my UCSF interview is and they still haven't said anything.

Vandy rejection today --- at least I'm not in "limbo" anymore --- now just waiting to hear from 6 other programs...

Does anyone know if there has been more dates at Penn State? It's the only program I haven't heard from I really care about still

This isn't specific to Penn st, but I think at this point, any program that has extended interviews but we haven't heard from yet has us on a waitlist or soon to be rejected list. I've gotten some interviews from a couple programs recently (ones that had offered interviews as reported on this forum) with one or two dates offered, so that would indicate to me that I was taken off of a waitlist without being told I was on it.

also did anyone hear from dartmouth hitchcock?

I don't believe temple, drexel, westchester medical center have sent out invites. Also I've heard St lukes/roosevelt have only sent invites to those who are inhouse/done research their. Feel free to correct if wrong.

Drexel sent invitations out a couple days ago with 1 date available, April 11.

heard uci takes only internal applicants, any ideas anyone?

Did anyone get interviews today or yesterday ? Or is the interview season over ?
