So I love hearts and thoracic cases. I am now really interested in doing a fellowship.
I did very well on my ITE1/AKT1/AKT6 (30's, >90%tiles). However, completely bombed my AKT0 and ITE0 (PGY1 year) seeing as I never read a thing about anesthesia. I did do well on my step 3.
So anyways, I looked at some fellowship apps and they actually want my my PGY1 scores. How could fellowship directors expect us to do well?
Second, aside from having good letters/evals/solid scores how do they even choose fellows? It seems like everyone would pretty much would be on the same boat.
Unfortunately I have done 0 research because my program does not allow research months until CA3 year meaning I have to somehow to squeeze research projects in an already cramped residency schedule. And any research I did would def not be publication worthy due to physical time constraints. Is research a huge a factor in getting a cardio fellowship?
