Hi everyone!
I am new to the forums, however, I have been an avid reader and am now in a position where I could really use some guidance in my pursuit of dental school and service in the military. My academic credentials are as follows:
BS in Business Administration - Finance (NC state school): cGPA 3.49
bcpmGPA: 3.2 (have only taken Bio I, Chem I, Physics I, Calc I & II)
I have been working full time for 10 months now as an analyst in the banking industry, so I fall into the category of "career changer." I have come to the realization that the corporate life is not as fulfilling as I had hoped and I would rather pursue my dream of becoming a dentist. The few questions I had relate both to post-baccalaureate programs and the HPSP scholarship offered by the military. Based on my credentials listed above:
1. Would it be more beneficial to keep my current job and enroll as a non-degree seeking student or enroll in a post-bacc program where I would have to leave my job but I could expedite fulfilling the prerequisite coursework for dental school?
2. If I am able to obtain a "post-undergrad" GPA of 3.75 or higher in the remaining science courses, spend time shadowing/volunteering locally, and score above a 20 on the DAT, would I have a legitimate shot at being accepted into a dental school and thus qualifying for the Navy HPSP?
Thanks in advance for any of your responses.
