Has anyone interviewd after Jan 26th received word regarding when we will hear a final decision? I believe the admissions committee met Monday night but when I called they said they don't have the information yet.. the votes need to be tallied. I was told earlier that they would know by Wednesday, now they said to call back next Monday. Waiting is tough! Anyone else frustrated and anxious? Any thoughts?

Zahri ,

I know just how you feel. I got a hold letter from the Cleveland Clinic and am waiting to hear back from the University Program at Case. It seems long and drawn out to me, which is frustrating. Do you know how long after the decisions are made that we find out?

Thanks,

tpf

same here... i just heard from clinic today (hold obviously) and have yet to hear back from case... i interviewed there on the 15th of jan i think... but im not too confident about case for some weird reason
hope we hear soon

when did you interview? they should have decisions on the people pre-Jan 26th because I know they met then and they said they would meet again this monday. I think it only takes 2 weeks...did you try calling. Some people on the accepted forums said they called and got a decision. let me know if you hear anything..

I just called 5 minutes ago. They said they would have decisions ready by Monday. I interviewed the 27th, and I've been anxiously awaiting this decision.

Hi, All

I called Case and found out I've been put on a post-interview hold. Blast. Anyone know how successful people have been in getting off the post-interview hold and getting an acceptance or is this all just a pro-longed rejection?

Thanks,

tpf

🙁 I'm sorry to hear that Prizefighter....they did the same to me.... :wow:...but here is a thread that should help you keep hope alive...at least until June 😱

Make sure you get that LOI in if that's where you really want to go.

Speaking of LOI's......DrJ2B ...you have 3 more days to send notice of a particular 😍 LOI.....I have my momma on speed dial!! :scared: :scared:

umass rower,
When you hear from them will you PM me and let me know or post here. I'll try calling them monday too though I'm a bit weary because when I called Monday they said they would have the decisions on Thursday... Don't want to get to anxious for another wait 🙂 Good luck!

Post-interview hold. Looks like it's back to the waiting game. 🙁

What makes this even worse is that I was applying for an HPSP scholarship, and the dealine to have an acceptance (anywhere!)was this week. No acceptance, no scholarship, and so now even if I do get into Case at a later time it's only iffy on whether I can afford it anyway.

Sorry to hear that Umass, but I heard Case's financial aid packages are pretty decent. I think once you get accepted, they try to get you the money to allow you to go.

They did seem interested in making sure we are well-informed about financial aid, but I doubt they can beat full tuition, fees, books, supplies, and a monthly living stipend.

Borrow the 180k. Do whatever residency you want. In whatever program you want. Not having to worry about ever taking a year off after medical school to basically work as a glorified LPN. Not having to worry about being sent to Iraq or Afghanistan. Then do whatever fellowship you want. Then pay the loans off.

i got put on hold too! Urgh I really loved Case too. Has case actually rejected anyone yet (maybe I'll start a thread and attempt to find out)? Does anyone know the stats on how many people get accepted/waitlisted/rejected once put on hold? Goodness...more waiting, waiting, waiting🙁

I thought my interview went really well, too. I always assumed that by the time you get to that point, the interview is one of the more important factors in teh decision.

And as another question, when does the Case adcom meet again? I got the impression that files put on hold would be reviewed at each meeting until there was a decision. Any idea how soon that could be?

You forgot about dodging bullets in Afganastan. If the HSPS was ideal, everyone would do it.

Best,

Rocco

I've actually considered the military at other points in my academic career. I don't consider any of the supposed drawbacks to be problems at all. No, it's not perfect for everybody, but it was about as good as it could get as far as I'm concerned. However, my recruiter called me back, and suggested that there's apparently a late, LATE deadline of March 9th to get an acceptance. So my question remains, when does the Case adcom meet again?

Around every 2 weeks (as does the CCLCM). So when did they meet last time?

Just add 2 weeks to that date.

Called to check my status today (interviewed Feb 2) and was told I was accpeted! 😍

CWRU Class of 2008?

Hope some of you are my classmates!

They met Feb. 9, and my non-decision was ready a week after that (yesterday). So two weeks from then I'll call again and see if they'll show me some love on my second go in the committee.

Doesn't the hold letter say not to call back and check on status though? Did you get it in the mail today? They sent them out on Friday... From the letter it sounds like we will be re-reviewed each time the committee meets but that almost seems impossible given how many people seem to be on hold... Don't you think?

I don't know what the letter said, because I haven't seen it yet.

umass rower..I pmed you a copy of the letter..in case you're anxious like me and would probably like to know what it says🙂

Just found out I got put on hold too. I really liked the place too. Oh well, hoping there is some movement off of that, I doubt it though, a friend of mine has been on hold for a few months now.

Been on hold since the first week in Dec. It is going to be a long wait. Apparently there are alot of holds this year and they have not idea if they will even get to the hold list.

Can you back this up at all? If it's true, my prospects this year will be looking pretty grim. I really hate having all my eggs in one basket, so to speak.

i think case's hold list will be converted into a waitlist. also, a lot of students seem to come off the waitlist based on its published stats for 2003: ~370 offers were made to ~780 interviewees for a class of 145 students.

good luck to all.

yes, I thought that was off data too. How do you give 300 offers for 145 spots while at the same time claiming that you didn't go to the waitlist last year?

My guess is that many of those offers were rejected before the end of the interview season. That might explain why the waitlist was never visited.

Doesn't case overbook their class?

I dont want to crush any hopes and the info I have gotten has been mixed about this status. That being said I spoke with several people who are connected in different ways and they said that this year is looking to be extremely competitive for their school. Last year no one was taken from their wait list. They are basically flooded with a bunch of really good applications and they dont really know yet how it will pan out. They think that right now re-reviews of those on hold will take place at the end of Feb or in March. I have heard that all the spots will go to people offered acceptances before they even get to the hold/wait list. Again, I am in the same boat as all of you guys and I wish you the best of luck. I have a backup plan to reapply and will probably go that route if I dont get in. It was really tough to hear that I had been put on hold by my top choice school, I was crushed.

Actually the wait list wasnt used for other reasons. They basically didnt have the space for anyone else because some people had to repeat their first year.

any case updates recently?... i have not heard anything back at all but i was interviewed there around jan 15th(around then sometime, cant remember exactly).... not a peep from them about my status

What!?! I would call them. They should have gotten back to you by now. I interviewed earlier then you and got put on hold... I wonder if they misplaced your file...😕

I think it's because most schools accept many more people then they have spots. They know that 100%, heck many times not even 50% will end up going there. I believe they then use a waitlist to have extra people on standby in addition to the extra offers they make. Does this make sense? I'm suprised that they would have that many straight-up offers though because I think their yield is maybe 50% or so (maybe less? I forgot) so it seems a little risky to accept all 300 people in case their yield for some reason increases...

FYI for those of you on hold,

The committeee met last night, hopefully your status will change from "hold" to "accept"

Good luck!

rmp

Anyone know approximately what percentage of the class comes off the waitlist (or hold)?

For all of you who say that they really liked Case when they went to visit, can you set forth clearly for me what it was that got you excited about the place.

I have been going to Case on and off for 10 years and so maybe I am too close to it to be objective.

Did anyone else get a call from a Case alumni? I got a call yesterday from a '95 alum who is now a practicing interventional radiologist. I think that is the longest I ever spoke to a doctor. 😀 That's cool that Case does this.

I got a call from the Chief of Urology at Johns Hopkins who also went to case. Very classy.

HOW DO YOU KNOW THE ADCOM MET ON MONDAY. I thought it was going to be next monday in order to review the recently interviewed people from last week, which was the last interview week. Also, do you know if they are taking from the HOLD list. Heard they didnt know yet?

Where's my call from case alumni? I feel unwanted.

Judd

I got an email from an orthepedic surgeon

i too got a call from an alumnus a couple months ago. he was an ophthalmalogist who did residency at JHU. this was a few days after getting a postcard saying an alumnus would contact me.

I got an e-mail from a '74 Case alumnus a few weeks ago who lives in my area, asking me if I had any questions. Cool that the school does this! I feel so loved!

CWRU Class of 2008?

You were accepted to Pitt as well correct? Where are you in deciding which school to attend?

Hmmm,

Actually it is quite a difficult decision. I love both schools, literally! Right now I am planning on going back to cleveland during my spring break to revisit the campus and to see Pitt again during its revisit weekend......thats were I stand, any suggestions?

Is everybody's spring break the same time. Maybe all those people (exmike, Kashue, soulrflair, etc.) who want to have another look at Case should schedule it during that time.

I'm here all the time.
