CCOM Interview Discussion thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Congrats to all those thatheard today, and good luck for those waiting. Seriously, they do not call everyone. I know in my group last year I think 4 received calls and the rest had to wait for letters. Let me know if I can answer any questions when you are deciding about which school.

hey orchid07, don't worry, you're not the only one who wished they had received a phone call today. i even called them today but the admissions lady had left for the day. the suspense is killing me and i can imagine how you feel. i'm really hoping that we get something in the mail tomorrow..

good luck!:luck::luck:

did anyone not get a phone call?

I didn't get one yesterday either. Total bummer.

I'll be thinking of you today orchid when I'm biting my nails until the mail comes!! GOOD LUCK!!

Congrats to everyone who got in yesterday!! Hope there was lots of celebrating!

well you guys might want to check your interact now account.... mine finally changed over to the accepted student thing... nice video message from the dean... good luck:luck::luck::luck:

after much anticipation.... i got the alternate list. 🙁

ps... this is the saddest day of my life

How did you find out about the alternate list. My interact now account still has not changed.

my interact didnt change either. i called

I'm so sorry orchid. I know CCOM was your #1. Sometimes the alternate list is not a bad place to be. At least you still have hope instead of getting a flat out rejection. I know it's not much consolation but it's something to hang on to for now.

just found out i'm on their alternate list too...😡

total bummer....here i thought i'd be getting some good news today 🙁

Orchid, please don't beat yourself up - it's still early!

I was put on the alternate list at DMU - and now here I am!

There's still lots of time and lots of hope!

i know how you feel orchid...i've been accepted to a few other schools but was really hoping to go to ccom. my stats are higher than their averages too and i thought my interview went pretty well also. i called them earlier but they told me that the admissions counselors were all out of their offices today and that i should call back tomorrow to get a better insight about my application. i hope we have a better chance of being taken off the waitlist since we were the first few groups who interviewed.
btw - orchid, i think we interviewed the same day at ccom

From what I understand, alot of students from last years class were accepted off the alternative list, but pretty late into the cycle. 🙂

So I interviewed 10/22 at CCOM. Anyone else in that group? :-D

i recently talked to a student at ccom , and this is what i heard :

the adcom is putting more of the 3.0-3.3 / 24-26 kids on the waitlist or hold list this year than they usually do. ( not saying they arent accepting any with these stats..)

i guess this is because this year they want to wait for the influx of 3.4-3.6/28-32 pre-allo kids that will start freaking out and applying in december. they want to 'up' the mcat and gpa averages so they want to pull in applicants with stronger gpa/mcat combos. the guy i talked to says he only knows this bc he is interviewing students as a CCOM student this year.

if thats the case , that sucks. not sure if its just b.s. or not. 🙁

yeah.. i finally pulled myself together after hours of crying and self-pity. Im gonna call admissions and figure out what my chances are and if theres anything i can do. I would have earlier but was too emotional. im pretty upset, ive been accepted at several other schools and my stats are above ccoms average so it makes me wonder what could possibly have when wrong other than my nerves.

Anybody know what odds are for getting off the waitlist?

I interviewd yesterday and they said that about 150 students each year are placed on the alternate list and about 25-50 will be taken off so its about a third. And the admissions director said that you should keep sending CCOM your EC's and anything else that you might think will improve your application to the adcom. Hope this helps.

I got in with a 26/3.5

My first MCAT was a 23 and that got me an invitation.

congrats megboo!

yeah, like i said, i don't think its a "rule" or anything, just rumor that is circulating CCOM right now. on the other hand, there are plenty of people at my undergrad who were complete in june/july with similar stats and havent heard a peep. the whole process is so nuts sometimes.

Man, I interviewed at CCOM today.

My group was the craziest, insane set of ten people I've ever met in a medical school setting..I wish they could all be my classmates!

The school seems really awesome, guys. Congrats to everyone who's already in.

I think the biggest factor is the candidates desire to attend CCOM. I spoke with one of the DO's who is doing interviews, and he said that is a very important factor when he was looking at candidates. So if you want it...Let it show!! For all of those that have been put on pre and post interview waitlist, call and speak with an admissions counselor and ask them what you can do to improve your chances of being taken off the list and accepted. Let them know that you really want to attend CCOM.

Marcia

hey guys when were you complete and when did you get interview invitation?

I just received my acceptance letter. Dated 10/19 and actually signed by the dean with a nice little "Welcome to CCOM!" handwritten on there. Very nice of her. Good luck to everyone!

where did you guys stay for your interviews?? or where is the link on the website ( i looked!!) Im interviewing next tuesday (the 6th!) anyone else??

at home 🙂

Check out any hotel in downer's grove, lisle, lombard, or naperville.

Before I moved up to this area, I visited regularly and got hotel rooms at the Hyatt in Lisle (right off 88 and 10 mins away) for $35. No kidding.

Just got my acceptance letter yesterday! Took long enough! SHEESH!!

Still ecstatic to get it though!!! 😀

What does it mean to be waitlisted pre-interview? Apparently, they've reviewed my application and I'm on the interview waitlist. Is it the same thing as a "hold?" What are my chances of getting an interview invite? I have MCAT/GPA combo of 28/3.23 (I attended a top notch liberal arts school). I thought I'd at least sneak an interview with those numbers. This is devastating, CCOM is my top choice. I've been accepted several other places and this is my first "rejection." HELP....

How do you know you got waitlisted for interview? Did you call them?

I have been complete for over a month and I have a 30 and about a 3.4. I have yet to hear anything from CCOM and I'm starting to lose hope. :scared:

Wait so what does that mean? I'm in the exact same position and so lost. This feels like crap.

Thanks, that's good to know.

What is up with this bogus travel guide they have you? It is frusterating to see that all the "free shuttle" services they advertise don't start until 730 or 8am, which is after when the interview is suppose to start. Can someone give me some advice on how to get from the airport down to downers grove and back? I am guessing a cab ride for that 20 miles would be about 50 or 60 bucks. Is there a metra line that runs close that I could take a cab from? Im thinking of staying at the comfort inn. FYI. Thanks

Thanks for this info! I was worrying I'd gotten rejected. 😳

What Comfort Inn are you referring to?

when does the CCOM committee usually meet? when is their next meeting, anyone aware of this? thanks 🙂

Wow...I am on the interview waitlist at ccom. You know you're in trouble when you are on the waitlist to get interviewed. Oh well.🙁

How'd you find out? I still haven't gotten a response from CCOM and I've been complete for awhile.

So am I 🙁 I just wonder what it all means? it seems like unusual behavior because I haven't of a waitlist for interviews before.

Bluegirl, got a letter in the mail.

I think a pre-interview waitlist is the same as being "on hold" at other schools. You weren't rejected so it isn't horrible news! gl.

I wonder what it is that gets people rejected pre-interview vs. put on hold/pre-interview waitlist. I think being put on hold is infinitely better because at least you still have a chance. I'm just wondering if my app would warrant being rejected.

i just got the pre interview waitlist today...bummer

Sorry. 🙁 Hopefully you'll get off that list soon. Did they send you a letter or e-mail and how long have you been complete there?

i was complete on the 10th of october and i got a letter in the mail today...i hope i get a chance to interview...it's m # 1 school.

I got a snail mail yesterday. I guess this is there way of saying, " we don't want to reject you until we see what else we get."

Sorry for responding so late.😳

is that really what "pre-interview" waitlist means?

does anyone know what the success rate from this waitlist is?
