I was just wondering what are my chances of getting an interview with:

Overall GPA 3.12
BCP 3.20
Science 3.08
Non-Science 3.33

And DAT scores RC: 17, AA 18, PT 18?

I applied to a few schools and they keep telling me I am still under review.

Thanks.

Your GPA isn't all that dissimilar from mine and I didn't have many problems getting interviews. I did have higher DAT scores though. Depends where you applied.

When did u submit your application? With slightly lower stats you would be best off submitting really early to have a shot. I would take the DAT again and score above 20 to compensate for the gpa. Thats what I had to do, and after 2 application cycles I finally got accepted.

The first time I applied I had a GPA of about 2.8 and competitive DAT scores (18,19,20)s in all categories. I had an interview at Temple, but I had applied late and was up against some serious odds. My guess is that you still have a good shot with those grades.

It's about the DAT. My GPA was similar to yours in undergrad (3.08), higher in grad school (3.6). I think you may have a late cycle chance, but i agree, maybe a better chance if you raise your DAT to 20 (+) I was told that by one school despite doing well in graduate school. They said they simply look more at undergraduate grades than graduate grades...which stinks bc a lot of my graduate courses were harder, but I worked harder too. Minimum they told me should be 3.1-3.2 UG GPA.

My honest opinion is that you don't have much of a shot. You'll probably need DAT scores above 20 with that GPA.

Who know's what some of these schools are thinking, but I have a 21 AA and a 3.4 overall, 3.1 science, applied early and have had one interview and no acceptances. 🙁 So, that might be of help to you, but you never know, you could get in somewhere.

Its probably your science gpa, both needs to be up in the 3.3+. I would suggest to the op to at least start applying to postbaccs or masters programs as back ups.

I have a question. What if your first semester at college really sucked but then you started improving and doing well. Will the dental school look at it or just disregard you because you had a bad first semester?😕

I really got a bad grade in my first semester Bio but did really well the next semester. This hampered my GPA but will they look at the improvement factor?

Of course a low first semester and a high second semester won't work to your favor, but it won't work against you either. It is easy to repair a low GPA when you are starting to do well only 1/8 of the way through. I wouldn't worry about it. If you do have a C or below though and it is a prereq, you will have to retake it anyway.

I think i will try again this coming cycle.

I did get rejected from upenn and temple.

I still haven't heard from Columbia, Buffalo, Detroit Mercy, Tufts, and Howard.

I do have an improving trend I went from 2.9 in early 3rd year to around 3.2 after the fall semester of 2006.

I wrote the canadian dat so should I write the US one?

Thanks for all your input.

Although GPA & DAT are important, I would imagine that schools look at a variety of factors in making a decision. I'm sure they want a well rounded person and someone who would be a good fit in their program. So stats alone aren't the only things they go on. Who knows, you may still hear from the other schools! As far as the DAT, the score is good for a couple years or you could re-take it if think you can do better. But I have heard that 2nd time around scores tend to be similar to the first test scores. So make sure you study hard! Also, many schools take the Canadian DAT, but I would double check to see if the schools you're interested in accept it. Good luck!

its all about where and when you applied, i have similar GPA better DAT and i had a couple interviews and have been accepted so everyone is different you cant really compare yourself to anyone else what you need to do is evaliaute you situation depending on your evaluations of everyone elses. see what they did wrong and see what you did...i applied early but not crazy early, my DAT was fine but i had a sub par GPA we are talking 3.4 overall 3.3 SCI not that good so that is where i fell short thats why i didnt get my number 1

you have a chance. my gpa was similar, but you absolutely NEED to improve your DAT score! i'm saying you need a 21+ in aa/ts/pa. therefore, your chances of acceptances for this round don't look too good, so start studying for the dat again. also, be an early applicant and have wonderful lor!
good luck :luck:

Take more classes. Bottom line. One, you will be better prepared for the rigorous demands of dental school, and two, you can prove to admissions that you are capable of performing well in high level classes.
