Cheers mates,

My first post...but definitely not last!

Here's the problem...I've been accepted to a handful of schools:
BU, NYU, UDM, UPitt, Nova..waitlisted at Tufts (weird though, they want deposit, huh?)
My problem is that I have to decide...and so far I'm thinking UPitt. The other thing is that I'm still waiting on 2 schools: Temple and UF. I interviewed there awhile ago...but nada, zilch, zero...only dust off the shelf. Not nice people...make me wait like that. So, what do you guys thing about the schools that I have been accepted to, and what do you think my chances are to hear from the other 2?
Also waiting to see if I can get an interview at UPenn and USC, but I think it's kinda late...Oh well. I'm heading for the fridge now,
Cheers😀

Dens Medicus,
Congrats on your acceptances....I can only comment on Tufts, Temple, USC, and UF. I got into those four schools as well and was really impressed with the clinical requirements at Temple. They pump out great general dentists for sure. Although I liked the PBL program at USC, I'd rather have a more traditional program that incorporated team taught problem solving rather than it be the central focus of all didactics. I did put money down on Tufts, but have decided I'd rather go to school in Charleston, SC or NYC rather than Boston. So location basically ruled Tufts out - I found the clinical and specialty/reserach emphasis at that school to be slightly beneath those of the Temples, Columbia, or UPenn's out there. Of those four, I would definately choose UF though. The program is very balanced, similar to a Maryland, and if you want to practice in Florida I think that program has the experience edge over Nova. But location might be important for you as well...Gainesville vs Ft. Lauderdale? Ft. Laud everytime...But congrats on everything, we all have tough decisions to make!

Cheers MDQ,

Thanks for the info. I think you're right, if I do get into UF I'll be heading that way...As for Nova, I dunno! I think I'd rather go to Pitt.

Cheers

Wazzup Dens ! Finally, I've got a drinking buddy on SDN !! Cheers !

Well, congrats on your recent acceptances and take this process one day @ a time. I could only speak for UF, since I'm more familiar with the school and have been accepted into the dental program. First of all, if you are a Florida resident, UF will automatically give you priority over out-of-staters, so that plays a major role in adcom's decision on the application. I fear that the class is almost filled up (80 seats), so make sure to contact their office and verify the info. Also, UF is the PERFECT fit for you since you like to knock down beers and such - it's the only dental school with a Keg-chuggin'-beer-lovin'-party-in-my-pants license !!hahahaha !

Once again, cheers and good luck !:hardy: :horns:

Go to NYU...Lot's a Russian prostitutes for ya

Cheers damian12,

You just made my decision so much easier. If I get accepted to UF (maybe I didn't pay the right people, that's why I haven't heard yet  ) I will, no ends buts or anything, come there. The place is great, the school even greater. My residency though looks to be the problem...it seems I didn't change my driver license in time and they might not consider me...even though I've been living in North Miami since August of 2001. We'll see...but if I get in....oh boy...get ready for the 6 pack...gotta party before school starts!

Jojo2280...I no interested in Russian prostitutes...what gives you that idea? I got my baby linda, right here next to me! But thanks for the thought!

Cheers

Dens Medicus, I understand your dilemma.
I was accepted to BU, Tufts, Nova, and UPitt. I would've chosen to live in Boston except that the cost of living for me and my family would be astronomical. Therefore, I decided not to go to Tufts. Nova was the nicest school I visited. By far, Nova has the nicest facilities in the nicest place with the nicest weather, and the cleanest atmosphere. However, for some reason, I had a strong pull towards Pitt as well. I really like PA, and the school, albeit antiquated,-in some respects (no pcs for students)-and, I could envision myself in Pittsburgh with the low cost-of-living and all. In the end, I decided to go with the school that I thought would be best, and I've heard nothing but praise for Nova. My Father, a dentist, spoke with the a former administrator from C.U., and that person indicated that Pitt's reputation is up-and-down, but he was decidedly excited about Nova's future. That said (heresaid), I believe you must go with where you feel most comfortable, and your decision will be confirmed by your hard work and your own personal drive for success. Ultimately, I believe I've made a great choice to go to Nova, and can't wait to start school.
I'm interested in what you think, please respond.
