how's that funny, chubs!? i'm scared that i have to go ask every lor writer to send it to amcas. it was bad enough asking them once!

lol its only funny imagining all the premeds cursing there computer screens...I mean believe me Im pissed about it too...I might just end up dropping BU, penn st, creight, and temple.

I just looked at the AMCAS LOR request form...

Seems like its unnecessary to have with your letters if you have Interfolio. But clarification seems necessary, as how else are we going to be able to identify ourselves via AAMC ID # and AMCAS Letter ID (Yes, there appears to be a specific number for your AMCAS Letters)? I'm thinking that you can do so in a separate field with your Interfolio account...

Can someone with Interfolio check up on this? I haven't signed up for one yet but if this is kosher, I am definitely signing up for Interfolio and having my current University's Career Services transfer the entire file over to Interfolio.

Edit: Just saw your post in the Questions thread. Back to square one... will probably have to call AMCAS tomorrow for more clarification..

I'm currently with the career service. but i don't understand how interfolio would be easier?
oh and where is the lor form?

I don't have that option. My main state school, Univ of Michigan, volunteered itself in this damned LOR pilot thing...

Just enter in a letter in AMCAS, and it'll let you take a look at the generated LOR request form that you're supposed to give to the letter writer.

With my university's Career Service, it's all mailed out, using shipping materials, and I have to pay like $6 for the lowest shipping option.

$4 per electronic submission looks real nice when I'm applying to 35 schools... plus it's faster, and I don't have to worry about stuff getting lost in the mail shuffle (that's why I'd get delivery confirmation, which tacks on a bit more to the mailing cost)

I sent emails to the schools I was going to apply to...to see if they would accept them another way other than AMCAs...I am hoping they will, that would mean the only one I ahve to drop is Iowa which is probably a reach anyways.

Maybe U mich. will end up accepting intefolio as well as amcas

I'm just on a medical school information binge, plus the whole application thing is irritating me. I thought I'd be done with this by now (just have my PS to go) but I didn't take into account that the schools listed in the AMCAS LOR pilot thingy would possibly require all LORs to be sent through AMCAS.

Of course, I know I have plenty of time, because this doesn't even have to be done before submission, but it's still there, irritating me so I want to find a solution ASAP.

Ahh my career center does it the same way. but i already paid to open the account. How would it work if we wanted to send the lors to amcas through the career center?

print out the cover letter and have them mail it in....no biggie for you then.

Damn, you had to pay to open the account? I don't recall ever having to do that.. it's only $15 to open an Interfolio account, with $4 for each electronic submission, though.

Good question.. I imagine we'd have to give them the AMCAS LOR form to include with the packet? I'm not sure about that. I might just deal with it from that end, and use Interfolio for everything else.

If you are using your career center...print out the form give them to your center and have them include them with submission to AMCAs...
ohhh then i'm ok? well then. i wish somebody said this an hour ago before i sent a stupid email to my career center! they're going to think i'm an idiot!
say nothing, chubs!

my school= annoying. i had to pay $100 to open the account. it was stupid, probably useless, but since my profs have only written lors to the career center, i decided to go ahead and use it to make it easy on them.

does your school have a letter service?

O i know....I was just implying you getting in😉

I appreciate that Chubbs! I am really hoping and praying I do get in!

Do you guys think it would be worth it to buy examkrackers for Bio review? That question goes for anybody in here.

how does this form have to be sent? can you not send it?
damn berken....did you not read anything on the application questionarre thingy at all?

LOR writers submit the form with their LORs

Its seem to have gotten alot of good reviews.....go online to amazon or ebay and see if you cant get it for cheap. Make sure you dont overload yourself with review books...Its better to know one book cold then 3 books superficially.

it was confusing! and i skipped the part about Interfolio and only read about letter packets from the school...which scared me. It says I can't pick out the letters and must send all of them. I still have to call them.
I'm sorry that your school doesn't help you out more, chubs! i thought i had it bad because we have no premed adviser, but no career center? that's annoying.

I have to say that EK Bio's book is great for a condensed review. Essentially, you've seen 90% of the stuff before from Biology classes that you've taken, and since you're in a post-bac, you probably have taken more Bio classes... so I think EK is a good book for ya. I would also recommend using EK's 1001 Questions in Bio if you like learning by doing.

chubs is right. i did the 3 books superficially thing, and regret it now.

maybe we do...but I dont know about it...I know we have a place for stupid ppl to go to get advice on switching majors and taking personality tests to see what major would fit them.

If you want to send individual letters, you'll have to send each letter individually to AMCAS, w/ it's own cover page and whatnot.

wait, i could always choose the letters i want to send to all the schools on the list, even though they would have to be the same for all of them...but that couldn't be too bad.

I have been doing all bio in my postbacc, that is why I was asking about the EK because I have heard great things about it. Im trying to find it for a decent price. I think the lowest I can get is from amazon. For bio I dont need a lot, really I do need the practice more than anything.

I heard TBR is good for the physical section. Is this true as well?

i haven't tried it, but it's supposed to be. I liked tpr for PS. ek sucks for physical.

I can dig that. I already have the PR books, but I want to try something different. Plus the PR books go into a whole lot of detail which I dont feel the need to read. I pretty much read it all last summer. Just trying to find new things so I can really knock this test out and be done with it. I have 2 months to get it done.

Yeah, I heard EK sucks for physical. I have my TPR books and I thought they were good for physical. Just wanted to see what people thought about tbr becuz I have heard so much about it. My PS section can stand to come up a couple of points.

It seems like TBR keeps getting praised fo rhow good it is especially for Chem and Physics...the only thing is...I heard its pretty detailed.

i've heard the nova physics was good, if your phys is weak. never tried it though. from spending time in the mcat forum, this is what i understood:
nova= physics
tbr= gchem, ochem, phys, bad for bio
ek= bio; personally, i like kaplan bio more than ek...

TBR is awesome for beefing up PS... I recommend it for everyone who needs to really relearn all the stuff (I'm sure Physics and G-Chem was a long time ago for you) via their review and the massive amounts of practice passages they have in their books. From one of your later posts, you have two months so I think it would work out for you because these things can take a while to go through.. and the problems are quite challenging.

Basically, what I did was to use TBR for physical sciences work, EK 101 VR + LSAT reading comp tests for verbal work, and TBR's Orgo + EK for biological sciences work. To supplement all that, I used TPR's Science Workbook as a readily accessible source of specific problems on topics that I found myself to be struggling with while working on practice tests.

Practice tests are IMO the most important part of your preparation. You absolutely have to have as many practice tests as you can possibly do and learn from.

Almost all, and maybe all, med programs will accept LOR's from VirtualEval, Interfolio, AMCAS, or postal.

Until this sorts itself out I'm gonna go drink a little...it is American Craft Beer Week for only another 3 days 😀
