Anyone doing anything fun for Memorial Day? I think I'm just sitting on my ass and driving a 6-pack of my favorite hefenweisen 😛

My best friend is coming over to help me with some spring cleaning in my room. I think she really just wants first dibs on any of the crap that I throw out.

Well, I was a dental student for 1 year before I switched to medicine. Starting 1st year again (Glad to do so 😀 ) and yeay, I'll grad a year later than my peers. Looking fwd to really ace 1st/2nd year (Since I've learn all anat/physio/biochem/histo/embryo) 😀

So are you guys done with your personal statements yet? I still feel like I need to rewrite mine but I'm trying to resist the urge... I don't want to start from scratch like 10 days before I submit the app.

Not only that but I just got assigned a HUGE project at work that is supposed to be done by Friday, so I'm going to be working like crazy for the next few days...

Man, writing the personal statement is killing me. I totally planned on submitting my app on the first day, but I procrastinated on my personal statement until...last last week...pretty horrible. I hate writing personal statements...they're just not my thing. sighh...
 
Through with my sixth revision... I like it a lot more than my previous revisions so far. I think I have room to improve with possibly one more revision and that will be that.

Just waiting for the transcript from my post-bac university to make it to AMCAS, and I'm all set to go.

Im pretty sure my transcript got lost..I requested the 15th and it was sent out the 20th and they still havent gotten it...JERKS!

I'm in the same exact position as you, mine was sent out on the 20th and they still haven't gotten it. It's getting me frustrated because I went out of my way to send them out early and they still don't have it. I guess we have to resend..

I'm new to the thread, just thought I'd say hi. Hope everybody's cranking through AMCAS. I just finished mine today cause I'll be heading out into the boonies on Friday and won't be back till after June 4. I've got a friend to submit it for me. :luck::luck::luck::luck: to everyone!!!!!

I'll send out a new one tomorrow too. At least I'm not alone... Oh well, I'll let you know if mine is received.
 
Do you guys have to pay for your transcripts? The first three I send out are free but the rest cost $5 each.

I'm somewhat worried because when I called today the clerk in Records & Registration said they "printed off a copy and sent it to AMCAS." I requested an "Official Transcript" so that thing better have the official registrar's seal on it or I'm going to be really mad.

5 dollars a transcript....and I from my other school it was 7.25 because I had to pay online using studentclearinghouse....

I dont understand why we have to pay, they always charge me a couple 100 dollars for something they list as "university fees", and I figured that transcripts would be part of it, but I guess not.
 
Funny...the transcript for my summer courses (physics) arrived but that was at another institution. My main institution still hasn't sent out the transcript, and it was requested 4 days ago wtf.

yea, we pay 17 per transcript, and theyre slowness is killing me right now
 
I got 2 emails from AMCAS.. one saying they received my transcript, then another one, sent on the same day stating:
Upon further review, we have determined that we have not received your official transcript from the <school here> in support of your AMCAS application to the 2009 entering class. Please ensure that the official transcript from this school is sent to AMCAS in advance of your deadlines.

But the status on the AMCAS page says.. transcript received.. so i dont know what to do.. i callled my college to verify that indeed an official transcript was sent.. and they said they only mail official transcripts.. So perhaps there is no problem? Should i call AMCAS to verify?

I would call. It's possible that your school forget to add the registrar's seal or some other dumb mistake.

Or maybe AMCAS got your transcript and subsequently lost it. 😱
 
So am I the only 2013 loser with nothing to do tonight? It's so quiet around here.....kinda spooky. :scared:
 
Oh no, I'm also a loser. Hi! I need to stop spending the whole day looking at this website...at work. Of course, I could spend this time re-writing my PS, but that'd be too smart. I don't know how I feel about productivity.

This happened to me also, except I got a THIRD email, saying that they had received it again. I called AMCAS, and they basically said that they have it and not to worry.

Because you didn't get that 3rd email telling you they had it again, I would probably still call.

Wouldn't it be nice if med schools gave people credit for being intense/ anxious and scouring these forums all day? I feel like it shows that we're committed. Or stress cases. Probably both.

Then again, they probably know lots of people are freaking out already and they enjoy seeing us in pain. Sadists, all of them.

By the way, I am new to this place, but are people ACTUALLY not lying about their stats? Cause good God. Everyone here got a 40. And they're all worried about getting in.

Ok, I'm done wasting time. Actually, that's a lie.
 
I'm probably not the one to be asking, cause I'm pretty new too. Just made the rookie mistake of resurrecting a thread everyone hates. Whoops 😳. Anyways, They're probably not lying but not everyone has gotten a 40. Explore and you'll find all types of premeds here on SDN.

As a rule of thumb, I like to assume that ~50% of the people on here are lying about their stats. I personally know of several members who have faked their MCAT score, GPA, or both, just to increase the size of their online egos.

Don't let it scare you too much - just strive to be the best YOU can possibly be, and you'll be fine. I know, easier said than done...

Yep. I guess, in the blanket of anonymity called the internet, it makes it a lot easier to lie.

If I had an MCAT like 12/13/13 and a 4.0 GPA on my MDApps, no one would really question it... Just take everything you read here with a grain of salt. 👍

OK one quick bedtime story. I'm spotting a ton of pombe colonies so I use this big chunk of metal as a spotter. We flame it by squirting it with ethanol then lighting it. Well, apparently I was using a POS squirt bottle and I was too tired to notice it was spraying my hand as well as the spotter. I clicked the lighter and FWOOSH!!! My hand was a blue fireball. You should have seen me try to put it out. I bet I looked so stupid. Like something out of a movie.
