CLASS OF 2014...how ya doing?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Anyone want to teach me ruminant physio in the next 12 hours? Anyone? Anyone?

It'll be a miracle if any of the ammonia related stuff sticks in my brain. And I love cows.

I guess that's what I get for spending all my time on immunology.

On the bright side, I get to go home on Friday! (Oh yea and that 1/4 being a vet thing too!)

Anyone want to trade brains with me for the next 24 hrs? someone with good memorization skills???

i have such a hard time remembering the scientific names of organisms with the genus and species matched up the way they're supposed to...

whyyyyy oh why do i have to memorize a random protist species that is only seen in Sri Lanka and India 95% of the time in BACTERIOLOGY??? :bang:

as if the hordes and hordes of bacterial (+ fungal?) spp aren't enough...

and why even mention that cats are seropositive for bartonella 5-90% of the time 😕. doesn't that mean they're conversely seronegative 10-95% of the time???

 it's going to be a long long night

It is.

edit: I got hit playing hockey the other day and at least 3 types of nematodes shot right out of my ear. Good because I don't want parasites in my ear. Bad because parasit isn't over for awhile.

Now I know what my wife and my dogs are allergic to: they are allergic to medical terminology lying around the house. I have to stop shedding knowledge! If only I could vomit it all out at the exam, leaving the cleanup for the school, and leaving my house clean of infestation.

What would be the fun of that? What is an exam without 500 things to memorize for the exam to be forgotten by the afternoon after it is over....

Honestly though, I have forgotten more this year than the rest of my life combined. Not really sure what the purpose of all this is anymore.

I hear ya... hang in there only 3 more weeks 😀

I'm DONE!!!!! Yay! The neuro exam was hard core - 17 pages, practically all case studies and brain transections. Woow I did not know I had learned so much! I hope I retain a bit of it 😀

Done, done, and done!!!!!! :soexcited: Now I'm torn between glad it's summer and can't wait for August to get here again.

It feels so great to be finished with first year! Now just waiting for official grades...

You suck...totally going to fail my finals this week. I'm in debbie downer mode, I have run out of time, and I don't even care anymore. wah wah wahhhhhhhhh

Just looking over this thread and remembering my own first year....guys, here's the good news: first year is the absolute WORST!!! Each semester gets better and better--trust me. Now that you've made it this far--know that you've already been through the hardest part of vet school!

And honestly, it's a cliche because it's true--it really does go by so freakin' fast. Each year is faster than the last. All of us were looking at the brand-spankin' new seniors on Monday morning going, "Wha....? Who sent these pod people in to replace us?" Totally surreal feeling and can't believe it was an entire year ago that that was US.

Hang in there--and enjoy your summers!!! :luck: 😍

One more final tomorrow and we're dooooooooneeeeee!!!!!

And I agree SoV, I've forgotten more this semester than I probably have in my entire academic career. That picture of your puppy's gorgeous btw.

The cats in my household have decided that my 500 or so flashcards are the best toys in the world. They like to throw entire stacks off of my desk/bed and then roll in it, and disperse them with bunny kicks. My room is a mess! I've already forgotten so much of the material from finals earlier in the week... I don't think I could put these cards back into stacks according to class.

Professors keep saying that incubation periods and prepatent periods of every disease are pocketbook knowledge, and that ALL clinicians know them by heart. I can almost bet my first born child that this is a lie, and an evil one at that!

Hey! You can do it!!!!!! Just call yourself "Debbie Done-Did-Well on Those-There Finals."

👍👍👍👍👍👍

lol squibs. Bookmark this comment, come back and read it next year at this time and you might want to drink bleach. 😉

True story.

I know, I know. Just trying to cheer up someone who was down. Why you guys gotta preach all the time how you know better than we 2015'ers do? We will find out in due time.

Whoever said you need to have gone through the same experience to be authorized to give encouragement? Squibby: hold on to your perspective and positive attitude, and this time next year might not be so bad 🙂

Why you gotta take things so seriously? 😉

I'm actually over my wanting to run away and start a band instead phase even though the quarter isn't over - I went through that last quarter. 😎

ETA: seriouspost encouragement is cool but sometimes also very annoying - think to when you were applying and your family/friends who don't know the process were all "oh you'll get in I just know it!!" and you basically wanted to kick them. It's kinda like that sometimes.

......so that picture of us in a band that you posted on my wall last night was a joke?! I've never been more disappointed in my entire (long) life. I thought we had something good. Something real.

Last day of classes tomorrow 😀 Then 2 weeks of finals. I'm so jealous of people who are already finished! I'm so excited. I feel more proud of myself this year than the rest of my 16 years of education lol

I hear those 2016'ers are a rascally bunch.

Done done done done done. My first day with no studying to do has been fantastic. Yummy Indian food buffet followed by a 3 1/2 hour nap. Mmmmm. Summer.

Late addition, but our neuro course started at the beginning of March. There was a quiz every Wednesday that consisted of 5 multiple choice, worth 5% of your grade. There was a total of 6 quizzes, worth 30% total. We did learn a bunch of different nuclei and tracts, but our prof said it didn't matter since, as someone else said, you'll never localize a lesion to a tract. However, our final was open book, so nuclei and tract names were fair game for the final. The final was worth 70% and was entirely case-based. We'd be given a case, then 2-4 questions about that case. We were allowed to bring in anything we wanted. It was really hard. The final had only 34 multiple choice questions, and it took the class the whole 3 hours to finish it.

I've been done since the end of April and it feels great. We had a big party and for the past two weeks I've been on a summer research project. I get to go help with a CT scan in about an hour. 🙂

I thought Parasitology would be my most favorite class! HAHAAHAHAHAHHAH! I despised that class...who cares what the name of a pod full of parasites is under very specific circumstances is? That class could have been fun, interesting and useful but instead it was trivial misery. On the other hand, virology, which at first, appeared horrific, actually ended up focusing on important highpoints. Go figure.
"Something added, something missing" made me nuts but at least that was altogether amusing!
Overall, 2nd semester was much better than first even with a certain useless (OK 2) useless class(es)

as if the hordes and hordes of bacterial (+ fungal?) spp aren't enough...

Final grade postings just blew my mind......

I made straight A's this semester!!!!! 😱 I really can't believe it. Just so everyone knows, it can be done. :soexcited:

Congrats! I have to thank Parasit for ruining my chance at the same success as you... ::grumble grumble::

🙁 our exam is closed book and nuclei and tracts are covered in full detail

the case studies sound hard though

Done. Moved out. Moved in. Set up. And I get to come back next semester! 😎

Now... I'm gonna sleep.

Saw a case of Cytauxzoon felis today. I'm sad that the cat was euthanized but it was really cool to be able to take what I learned in parasit lab and see it in a real life situation. I'm so glad I am working in a clinic this summer. It is reaffirming my love for the profession!

I'm dying under the weight of neuroscience (tomorrow and friday) and the impending doom of next weeks exams (physio, intro clin vet med, immuno) :help:

I have about 8 more hours to learn all this material, take an exam, take a nap, and probably pull another all nighter for the practical on Friday. Every time I feel like I understand a lecture I look at the old exams and it's like they are written in a foreign language. :barf:

It'll all be over soon GB! The only advice I can offer is to make sure you eat, and get "enough" sleep. You can do it! Summer is almost here! :luck:

Neuro is done .. 😀
One more week and 3 more exams to go!

man... i feel so sorry for all of you who STILL aren't done! i was feeling all jaded a couple of weeks ago when everyone else seemed to be done and we weren't. if it's any consolation though, those last few days seem to be intense but they seriously fly by!

well, I pulled two all nighters in a row studying for neuro the last two days. so Im currently running on about 3 hours worth of naps I've scavenged in the last 48 hours. I'm exhausted and gearing up to start studying physio (but I WILL get a solid nights sleep tonight).

but I have to say...and maybe this is delirium brought on by a lack of sleep...but I really liked neuro in the end. Everyone kept saying it would all come together and we would eventually understand it and...I do...or at least, I did a few hours ago 😉. The tracts weren't that bad in the end, in fact they were pretty interesting and I'm glad that I learned them.

Just a few more days and we're free! I

It's been a while since I've had some SDN in my life, but I'm glad to be back and done with my first year of vet school 🙂
