Class of 2015... How ya doing?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I feel like I was really, really close... to the point that I want to go through the exam and stuff and look for points.

I don't want the prof to think I'm being a dick, but damnit, I don't want to take this exam. I think I had a 69.something. Is it unreasonable to want to go through it??

I think it's totally reasonable, plus (I'm guessing from what you said about study guides) you're going to retake a similar exam, so it can only benefit you to know areas of strengths and weaknesses, right?

For the most part, I generally advocate for taking the grade you got. But in this case, definitely go and take a look at it!!! That's more than reasonable.

👍 Yeah, in fact if you approach the professor more from the latter standpoint than the former, your request is likely to be handled much better.

Yeah, that's how I'll approach it.

I would be only mildly peeved, since I was obviously close and I knew it, if A: there wasn't non-testable material on the test, and B: it wasn't going to hang over my head during my entire (and only) vacation of the summer. It's like I took $3k and flushed it down the toilet.

I'm more than mildly peeved. I had a 69.? And I'm not sure I want to ask for the decimals since I doubt he rounds up. Being so soso so close makes me want to look for points. Because lugging a binder with these 35 study guides along on my motherfracking vacation is just making me... not look forward to it. My husband doesn't deserve that - he paid for what was supposed to be a break from all this for both of us.

Yeah, I know it's still my fault and my grade, but if I'm like .4 away from the pass? I can't help but want to fight about it.

Good lord this pile of material is intimidating.

Go fight! You deserve a good break and vacation. Especially if you were so close to passing. I agree with others though about trying to not make it controversial. Good Luck! :luck:

TT, I'm so sorry to hear about this. If you're so close, I would definitely advocate seeing old tests and checking them over yourself. If you can talk to your prof, maybe there's something you can do to get a few extra points? It never hurts to ask, right?

Go get 'em, TT! You deserve to enjoy that cruise with hubby. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

You can do it TT! The worst thing he can say is no and you'll have to take the exam again. Which is exactly what will happen if you DON'T try so I'm all for it!!

We just finished our GI Block. I am feeling SO RELIEVED!!!!!! I had an oral "discussion" with two professors and DyeItPurple today and I think we did a really good job. I actually have NOTHING to do tonight that is school related and no class until 2pm!!!!! So I bought myself some bubbly and if anyone needs me - I'm the one watching Harry Potter and sipping on champagne,

😍

I LOVED this block. The grading format was a little scary with 70% of our grade decided in one week but I feel that every day, I learned something that I will use in the future. It was super exciting but very intimidating at the same time!

TWO WEEKS TILL SUMMER!! 🙂

No good. Still have to do it - have a 69.2 and that's that. Fuuuuuuuu. Here's hoping we can still enjoy the vacation a bit.

Bummer to hear this, TT. How does this work for your school? You have to re-take a test to cover the semester? When is the test date?

Pathology is kinda cool. I think I'll also like our genomics class. I'm lukewarm on immunology and our version of "bacteriology".

Microbio is one of my fav things, so I've been a little disappointed so far. We will see if things improve.

I'm still high off of no anatomy, though!

Passed my Anatomy oral final today!!!!! :soexcited: WOOOHOOO!!!!

One more final left!!! Then first year is in the books (hopefully I passed everything else 😱 )

oral anatomy final?? 😱 what?!?!😱

It's a European thing. All the schools over there do oral exams for stuff.

SO, I rescheduled my cruise. It's not for a month and a half now. So... well, I can just worry about studying now. It wasn't too expensive to do, but I still have to sort out the airfare. Thankfully, southwest lets you transfer points to a new flight without any trouble.

I'll admit that I'm relieved to be able to genuinely look forward to my vacation.

(Now I just have to pass the exam!!!!!)

That sounds good! Not having to study during the cruise will be much better! Good luck! Study hard now! 🙂

You might want to edit that. I got in trouble for a similar post already yesterday. That language is frowned upon in this forum (just a heads up to help you avoid trouble).

Out of school. In a job. So tired all the time. Kinda jealous of my friends who are already in their grown-up lives. Wahh

groan.grumble.whine.whimper.

x2. my pharm final is coming up on Tuesday, and I'm deathly - and irrationally - afraid.

I mean. I think I get a B if I sleep in and miss it. Oddly enough, the class has 230 points but is only graded out of 200. (That's right - 15% extra credit. Boom.). And the final is only 50 points.

But still ... I hate to do poorly on a final and feel like "Oh. I just proved I didn't actually learn anything."

Maybe it's the renal phys exam and behavior exams following hot on pharm's heels. Not sure. Gonna be one of those weeks. Sigh.

I am so done with this semester. Feel completely crippled by the beautiful sunshine, the fantastic horse, the lack of interest in nutrition/toxicology. (I know, bad vet student...very important things to know...)

I keep telling my brain - only 12 MORE DAYS. My brain just laughs at me and goes back to it's happy yet delirious wandering around the interwebs. MUST GET IT TOGETHER!!!!

:help::bang:

Two days of exams then DONE for the summer!!!! :soexcited: it has been a long year definitely ready for a break

9 more days left. Our last 5 hour torture session...er, i mean anatomy exam is on monday, then reproductive physiology exam on friday. there is only a minuscule chance that i can bring my D in physio up to a C-...but at least i don't have to retake the class if i get one D.

buying a mountain bike 2 weeks ago was not the smartest idea for staying focused...whoops.

It depends on the school. For Penn it is less than 70. But I would say go by whatever your school considers failed.

So is 'failed' below a 60 or below a 70? Because I've either failed an exam like twice or enough times that I'd probably rather not count. Lol.

Oh. In our case, it's typically the 'standard' 90+/A, 80-90/B, etc. So <60=F. In this particular case, I got a 52. But I didn't study a single minute for it, so I don't feel too bad. When you need 14% to get an A in the class (I could have walked in, put down 'B' for everything, and done just fine), and you've got another final coming hot on the heels of that one where you need an 82% to get an A, it's a no-brainer which one you study for.

Unless, I suppose, yer one of those gunners that just can't tolerate getting less than an A on anything for any reason. I gave that crap up right around my second week of vet school. 😛 Nowadays I get my A's where I can, and walk away smiling with anything else that still keeps me progressing through the program. 🙂

In my case, the answer would probably be "neither" tbh. :meanie:

edit: also, we fail if we get below a 70,

So yes, below a 70 in a course is failing here too. I meant on an individual exam, though. It's more of a personal designation - meaning that I've made a lot of 60-somethings but not much below 60. Hence the original comment.

And I realize my posts probably make me sound like a bad student. Well, kind of but not exactly - I do okay for the most part, but anatomy doesn't jive well and phys is more of an instructor related thing. I just need to do well in two days and I'll be free of it... trying to stay motivated. So SO much material. And my cat is ill so I have to take her to the teaching hospital today, again.

Thinking good thoughts for kitty! Will also be thinking of you as you try to survive the next couple days. You must be so burnt out by now! We're all behind you - I know from seeing you working in vet med first hand - you are going to be a great DVM!!

On the other hand. Here at UCD SVM: FIVE MORE DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!
