Class of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Simple explanation. So 2014 used to have 14, then Spurs was secretly taking them away. I didn't notice til I noticed that 2015 had the same amount (10). So then I gave 2014 back it's 4 that had been stolen. And I gave you 1 because I'm nice.

Spurs was taking away our exclamation points?! How devious!

hahaha I applaud is efforts.

Just curious. . . how many people have all of their letters of rec ready for the next cycle?

Personally I have zero at the moment, but I have meetings scheduled over winter break with 3 writers who have agreed to do it. I'm going to request 2 more in a couple weeks. With all of the horror stories I've heard about professors taking forever and delaying applications I hope I'm ready to go when AMCAS opens.

I'm going to ask one of my professors tomorrow, and asking atleast another 2-4 soon.

We don't need all of those exclamation marks anyway. I think the class of 2014 was overcompensating for something with all of those exclamation marks. . .🙄

Care to request a mod to have ALL of your exclamation marks taken away?

That's what I thought.

Only slightly 😀. I'm not a mod.

It's all good. I'm not worried because you 2014ers will be swamped with work soon enough 🙂. No time for SDN.

On the contrary, grasshopper. Why do you think the the 2014 thread is always at the top of the page? It's not because they're sharing study techniques. 😉

How's you 2015ers final exam things going? Having fun times?

soooooooooooooo fun. man i love finals. gives me time to catch up on those great sites like gprime.net and potterpuppetpals.com

Snape, Snape. Severus Snape.

2014 > 2015

Wow . . . it didn't really sink in until I saw this thread. I can't believe I am actually accepted and officially a part of class of 2014. And that I can now be the condescender rather than the condescendee! I feel all warm and fuzzy.

So . . . 2014 rules! Suck it, 2015! (Just kidding. I'm so glad not to be in your position . . . good luck everyone!!!) 😀

Done with this semester 🙂 Don't feel good about my two finals yesterday, though 🙁

Ohh yea? I just found out that if I had gotten just one more question right on my molecular biology exam than I would have gotten an A instead of am A-. Sh*tty, huh? (i know an A- isn't bad so don't flame me, im just saying for it to come down to one question.. sucks..)

I just finished my biochem final yesterday. 🙁 I had an A- before the final, now I feel like I'm going to get a B (hopefully).

I will have a math final tomorrow, and I probably need 100% on my final to get a B+ or A- for this class 🙁

My one final right now is killing me, neurobio. Urg.👎

This group shows promise. They will go far.🙂

Hell yeah, cause I'm putting my foot down, making a stand, and throwing my ring into the hat. Sorry for jumping ship from 2014 😳 timing didn't work out since I retook, but the time is now... as in June 2010...

I will be a doc at 26. Sounds about right to me.

I'll be 29 🙁 if this all works out 😎

Just wondering-are any of you going to be graduated before you apply?

Yes, I'll have finished my masters actually this spring haha. Messed up the timing since I had to retake and all, below average uGPA so I didn't want to risk a poor retake and being complete near the end of deadlines.. but I made a huge improvement! Its worked itself out so far: I've gotten more experiences, definitely more mature and focused about my studies, and really enjoying the journey at the moment albeit the stress involved in applying and what lies ahead of us. And a 'gap year' isn't the end of the world, and gives me some time to work and maybe take advantage of some opportunities I didn't forsee myself having before.

You and me both.

I'm am the same exact way in biochem. I have an 89, and she bumped it up to an A but I doubt I'll get an A now (she's also my research mentor, so hoping she'll take pity on me haha, sad I know 🙁)

I've got my metabolic biochem final tomorrow at 8am. The test is worth 60% of our grade! This is easily the most I have memorized for a class. Structures, names, & enzymes for the phospho pentose shunt, TCA cycle, Calvin cycle, gluconeogenesis, glycogen synthesis, urea cycle, glyoxalate cycle, beta oxidation, fatty acid synthesis. . . and I'm going to do it all over again in med school. I can't wait!

try to retain it too, you might need some of it for the MCAT.

🙂

Yup, my biochem final is this week too. Same stuff! 😀

But thankfully NOT 60% of my grade. Good luck!!!! 👍👍👍

The pentose phosphate shunt is not THAT bad, I guess. I had all sorts of nightmares looking at the figures in my text before I started reading. Now I feel 45% assured that I can get this stuff down before the end of the week. (Drastic improvement from the 15% it was from earlier today) WHY didn't I pay attention in class again?! 😀

I'm not gonna lie. Me and my friends totally broke out into this song in walmart the other day.

Glycolysis is my personal fav.

I have to know most of that (and a few more) plus mechanisms for almost all of the reactions in the all the pathways plus everything we've covered all semester for my final Friday. Oh yeah, we're also learning new material in class on Thursday 😡

Thankfully I decided to take the MCAT last Sept. and none of that was on there.

Thanks, good luck to you too. I have almost everything down except the structures of the urea cycle. I better get on that. . .

I hate that. My prof earlier this quarter made us come to class at 8am to learn material for the final and come back at 7pm to take a midterm. What a d-bag!

My exam was on oxidative phosphorylation, glycogen metabolism, photosynthesis, and metabolism of fatty acids, nucleotides, and amino acids with urea cycle

it'll help you in med school probably

I'm just curious, how much sleep do you guys usually get a night?

My exam was on oxidative phosphorylation, glycogen metabolism, photosynthesis, and metabolism of fatty acids, nucleotides, and amino acids with urea cycle

My exam was cumulative. OMG, everything was on there! Amino acids (names and structures), carbohydrates (names and structures), fatty acids (names, like glycerol, sphingosine, stuff like that), enzymes (six classes), glycolysis (names, structure, enzymes, cofactors), gluconeogenesis, TCA cycle, glyoxalate cycle, electron transport chain, photosynthesis...😱 And there was a question like "design a protein bar...", ugh..a long paragraph..that question was worth 60/200 of the whole test (the test was worth 40% by the way). Basically it just gave us a blank page and asked us to draw everything out..I was staring at it for at least 5 minutes and tried to figure out where I should start..😱

That's F'd up 😱 Sounds like nobody has an easy biochem class. My prof wrote a 300 page book on mitochodria. . . I guess I know what will be emphasized on the test tomorrow.

I'm just curious, how much sleep do you guys usually get a night?

This quarter I'm getting about 6 hours a night during the week. I'm the kind of person who needs 8+ so it's not really working for me.

I'm getting about 6 hours a night, sometimes more sometimes less. Usually, I sleep less than that during a semester, so six hours is great to me haha

Sounds like what my test should be like, minus the strange protein bar thing. Instead we'll probably have a protein degradation question and he'll ask us to determine the amino acid sequence based on the reagents used to break it up.

I tried asking my professor about the exam today to get an idea of what would be emphasized (new material, a balance, old material) and he responded with "Well biochemistry is so intertwined in itself and we are at this most wonderful climax in cellular metabolism. I would know everything we've covered and integrate... uh-oh I'm tweedling" (tweedling is what he calls his vibrating cell phone)

wow lol mine wasn't cumulative, yay, still very difficult 🙁

Eww, mitochondria. Everyone knows the ribosome is where it's at.

5-6 hrs/night then 9-10 on weekends lol

Same here. Sometimes 4 on weekdays.

Babies.... Ill be 30 when im done!

Hopeful class of 2015!
woot
