I live in Florida, I don't have winters anymore, haha! I remember going around out there in New Mexico (we were supposed to go to Arizona too) to do a service thing in a really really small villiage like place (I have no idea what you would call it). The weather was strange, during the day it was really hot, then at night it would be very cold.

Being a TA can be fun if your students are interested and hard working; and it can also be an absolute nightmare if they are freshmen 'premeds' who have no idea what they are getting into.

I find that most freshmen in general are just shy. They don't want to give their opinion. They don't want to participate, even when I say, It's ok if you're not sure of your answer, everyone's here to learn. Any type of response and enthusiasm is always nice.

I did the premed TA thing for freshman biology last semester. It wasn't too awful. This semester is sophomore (and a couple junior) chemical engineering majors. Unfortunately, this group isn't as smart as my year or the year before mine... gonna be kinda hard to help 'em out. But I love teaching so it's okay... the sucky part is trying to fit all the time in to do everything =x.

It is nice right now FYI. It's supposed to rain over the weekend, but trust me I'm not complaining. Just means the mountains will get more snow for snowboarding.

At my school it's really difficult to become a TA, but we have SI leaders (very similar to TA's, part of tutoring). I wish I could be an SI leader or TA for biology 1 (my favorite course), I've been tutoring it for about 2 years, but my boss keeps ignoring me asking about it. I'm one of two of the only people who aren't SI leaders. I have more experience than a lot of them, but I guess that doesn't matter.

Anyway, my mentor is going to be teaching forensic biochemistry next year, and my honors director hinted at me TAing for it, so we'll see.
 
How are all the 2015ers doing? Did any of you take the January MCAT?

From reading the 1/29 and 1/30 MCAT threads I can thankfully say no, I have not. I feel really bad for the people who were stunned/confused/angry by the difficulty and complexity of those tests. I just hope it is not a trend of the 2010 MCATs. :scared:
 
Yeah, those tests seem to have been pretty difficult. Just remember that the test-makers know this and the scale is probably adjusted accordingly.

don't buy into that. every mcat throws people off. it's the point.
 
not gonna lie, I had a dream last night that jefferson accepted me after i handed in my primary... lol it felt pretty damn good at the time. :laugh:
 
I just saw that a pseudo 2017 class thread was made... then closed. I think any class should be allowed to open their thread no matter how early. This is the PRE-med forum. I think some people here are taking themselves too seriously. If some people are so easily offended then the tread should be titled "potential class of xxxx." What is cool about a class thread is that everyone who posts there can relate b/c they are all at the same point in this stressful process.

I agree somewhat as these things dont annoy me but seriously at some point its just ridiculous. When youre a freshmen in college or taht early there is a high chance you wont even go into medicine or make it. I mean the way its heading there will 25 class of 2020 threads on the 1st page😛. I think mods want to prevent that scenario.

I know that they just want to keep things from getting out of hand, but maybe more people would have greater success if they were hearing from other people that were in the same position as them. Judging by the what are my chances threads many people seem shocked that they are not quite up to par on EC's and such when it comes to application time. Which is entirely there own fault, but class threads can be a good source of info.

I actually think it is more ridiculous that there is a class of 2013 thread in the pre-med forum. They are all medical students now right? Oh snap, yeah I said it 😛
 
I think they will let it stay open as long as they are serious.
 
All I know is I was brunt of all jokes 1 year ago when I made this thread, and then someone got rid of it lol, so it's not fair that the 2016 one is okay to be kept now.

Lots of work lately. Just had a microbio exam I feel so so about, I have 2 exams and a quiz next week. I am worried a little that I'm gonna start lagging behind on MCAT studying because in one of my classes we're taking on a major community service project that we have to put a lot of effort into. Why can't it be spring break so I can be on the cruise?!

so what started off as a friendly "games night" with a few friends (specifically catch phrase) turned into a heavy drinking game..which then led someone at 1:00 am to say omg lets go to the casino! It was actually a joke but half an hour later we were squished into a little old toyota with map directions to the nearest casino which happend to be an hour and a half away. So i just got back, its 6:45 am, im $100 down but mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn that was fun! I love random ******ed ideas, they rule, wouldn't ya say?

This reminds me of when I lived in Tucson... we started at a bar, then someone said "Hey, lets go to Tombstone!" So a two hour drive later, we arrive in Tombstone and continue to drink till we closed the bar. It was pretty fun actually!

well, i am really cool and thought i was being helpful but apparently was giving too much of an mcat passage away...

as for MB, i'm pretty sure it has something to do with the fact that he literally tried to take over SDN the other night. yes, i still stalked the boards even though i couldn't post. ironically, i had a lot to say but now i dont remember what it was and i cannot find the threads that were making me want to post. gahh.

what's up class of 2015? im currently studying for the mcat right now through a kaplan course XD don't know when i should take the mcat.... is may too late for fall 2011 admissions?

the consensus is i look most like a mix btwn thalia and china chow (i've got the long dark hair) ....but i'm definitely not latina or azn. just white. borrinnnggg non urm non minority.

when i did that heritage.com thing i kept getting east asian and that one bollywood actress that is famous in america (i don't look like her?!) seriously, it sucks. facedouble is better.

nope may is still fine. Scores would be released in june and you can basically fill out the entire application w/o mcat scores. So u can submit asap when they come in. Also you can begin to write secondaries (which will be posted on sdn and stay the same typically year to year) as well as send in transcirpts for verification to amcas (which is what holds up applications). Do all that and a may mcat would still be "early" or as close to it as possible🙂.
 
This week includes my first day at a new job, my birthday, and hopefully the humilation (1 of the many this season) of the tarheels. Pretty good week I hope!

This week... transport phenomena and maybe bioengineering and pchem homework tomorrow. Lots of class tomorrow. Dance class which I always look forward to. Tuesday = thermo homework, maybe some bioengineering. Wednesday = thermo, dance, and studying for transport. Thursday = first transport test (SCARY!!) and homework for the following week. Friday = ballroom social dance thing! YAY!

Hoping to get a gal from my jazz dance class to go to the ballroom thing with me, we'll see. If not, there are always other options.
