Class of 2016 hopefuls: how are you doing?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Oh my! I think I would of had a heart attack!!

Let's just say it is VERY lucky I was at work all morning, with no internet access. I also had a local friend helping me hound him about it! I mean I'm all ok with submitting the day of, but TEN FREAKING MINUTES?!

LMMS I'm totally in for storming the office. I mean, you'd think they'd be like "warning, there's a ridiculously small character limit!" instead of just letting me insert the ENTIRE things I used last year. Ugh!

I won't be able to stop refreshing my VMCAS every 3 minutes until my status changes from "meeting VMCAS requirements."

CSU admissions page shows that my VMCAS + eLORS are not received 🙁 i'm like freaking out now that it didn'tn get sent, but my status on VMCAS is "mailed" and my credit card went through so it's probably just a delay...argh

If it makes you feel any better, mine is the same! My status on VMCAS is mailed, but on the CSU admissions it hasn't registered as received as of yet. Hopefully it's just a lag in processing..

My last eLor was submitted @ 8:30am! I could kill the guy, he gave me a heart attack!!

Love seeing that "mailed" status. I'm trying to let myself just relax today instead of just jumping in to all my supplemental app. essays. *ohmmmmm*

My last eLOR submitted this morning, but VMCAS didn't e-mail me to let me know so I spent all day cursing her to myself 😳

Haha this made me laugh. I would of been doing the exact same thing if that happened to me!

lol nuevaburra, my last eLOR writer submitted at 7:49am this morning according to VMCAS but they didn't email me either 🙁 i freaked out for a good hour when i woke up until around 11am when i checked the site...good thing i ddin't email or text her she would've thought i was crazy!

The last minute LOR situation happened to me when I was applying to an americorps program a few years ago. The problem? I forgot that he was on Central time & the application was due at Eastern time. So my entire application was voided and I was no longer eligible for the program.

... so I made sure to bug my LOR writers very early this year!

Now that apps are in, what's the earliest that we will hear from places? Are there any schools that let us know in November/early Dec about interviews or are they mostly January & later? It seems like there is so much time between now and then...

Ohio will likely be first in letting people know and doing interviews. In contrast, UTK won't have a thing to say until like... March. The majority of activity seems to happen in Feb and March.

I got my interview invite from Ohio State November 19th last year. So you guys have about 6 weeks to sit tight and try not to worry about anything, if last year is any indication! Do your best to relax and keep reminding yourself that it's out of your hands now =)

Also, I think Tufts starts interview in November. Cornell notifies about admission right after New Years. Not sure about any other places, though.

I found out about my Glasgow interview in either Nov or December. Penn and Tufts let me know in January. Georgia let me know I was wait listed mid-late March.

For this year, the only schools I'm expecting to hear from before January is Glasgow again and CSU. I think they start sending out notifications in November and December.

TAMU says all applicants are notified "by December 22", but I swear I got my rejection letter in November 3 years ago...so maybe no news is good news with them?

Western U website says interview invites are sent out in mid-January.

I hate waiting. Ugh.

Some schools are fast. I had decisions from 3 out of the 7 schools i applied to by new years (CSU, Penn, Ohio), and 2 even interviewed. Some schools space their interviews/decision making out over several months. Some do IS and OOS at different times. Schools like CSU and Ohio are notorious for their philosophy that applicants should know ASAP so they can move on with their lives. Wasn't there a rejection last year from CSU even before VMCAS was due ? So... sorry to say, but you just never know when you might hear back. If anyone's really neurotic about it though, one can always go back to the school specific threads from the past few years to get a better idea.

omg I don't know if i could handle a pre-due date rejection. That's so frightening! I know I should be enjoying my brief time period without the stress of applications or (hopefully) interviews but...to steal your phrasing, I'm a bit neurotic. 😛

Yeah, I think that was someone who was in their "borderline" category or whatever, so they either would let you know "sorry, not considering you at all" or "yeah I guess you can be in the running to be rejected later".

Uh ohhh guys! I just printed off my application, just to have a hard copy of it, and realized something. I had started it in June before turning 21 and so its says 20 years/11 months still...🙁 will VMCAs/Schools know that I had completed that section before my birthday or should I email them?

This made me giggle. I really DOUBT that they are going to penalize you for being a month off. I'm sure I did the same thing on mine (I turned 24 in July. Old fart). I think they are just trying to see how long you lived in a certain area, or in what demographic your age would fall.

That would be me 😀

Like Breenie said, I was in the sub-3.2 cumulative GPA category which is looked at before the other applicants. Some are rejected and others moved on. I was rejected before the VMCAS was actually due.

It'll be a funny story to tell when I'm a butt-kicking vet that does something amazing, like cure AIDS or revolutionize lab animal enrichment or something crazy. Kind of like that Peyton Manning quote: "I told them if you don't pick me first, I'm going to come back and kick your butt for the next 15 years." Their loss 😉

Now this made me giggle. Should I actually get accepted this year....I'll be 28 before classes even start. 😀

We really need a Like button. Or even better, a Love button. 😀

Right on! And on that note, before they start rolling in, I want to emphasize that a rejection from any school DOES NOT reflect on your worth or potential to become a great vet. Seriously, I've met so many great people who are thriving in vet school after 2+ rejections, and first-time acceptees that are for a lack of better words... duds. So don't take it personally and think of it as the vet school's loss.

lol, I'm imagining the scenario going on in your head:

"OH HOLY CRAP this one isn't even legal yet!!! .... oh... hmmm... apparently just turned 21 but didn't even notice. Must be a dull one... off to the round file it goes!"

A&M says December 20ish every year. I've heard from them as early as November 12th. Some people were even earlier. Have heard from them on Dec. 2nd, Nov. 12th, and Dec. 15th.

It has absolutely no bearing on how well you stand in the process. I ultimately got rejected on the Nov. 12th and Dec. 2nd years and accepted in the Dec. 15th year.

Me too! What does that make us? Ancient, stale farts?? lol

OKKKK OKKKK !!! I'm NOT an old fart!!!! Are ya happy, antique farts???

I actually look like I'm 17 and get weird looks when I tell people my real age.

oh honey, trust me, i'm 22 and i still get looks when i tell people i graduated college. apparently i still look like i'm 16...? :meanie:

i'm afraid that one day when i'm out of vet school and practicing i'm gonna walk in the room and the client is going to ask "where's the doctor?"

I am 23 and have very recently been carded going into an R-rated movie (actually has happened a couple of times)....although I bet the 16 year old kid carding me knows very little about how to determine age. 😛

Wait, is that to imply there's a trick or something? Share your wisdom oh great chronographer!

Here, they rarely card people for R-rated movies. The theatre website also likes to omit potentially embarrassing information such as "contains nudity" for their synopsis. 17 year old me saw Babel with a guy friend I barely knew... talk about akward.. I am almost 23 and I have been told I look 16 or 17. I will take it. 😀.

I'm on the opposite end of the "perceived age" scale. When I was 15/16 and a sophomore in HS I regularly had to correct people when they asked what year I was. I'd say soph, and they'd say oh, at the U? When I was at college, my 32 year old advisor got carded more than I did. I'm just hoping that this "mid-twenties" look sticks for the next 8-10 years 😉

I got asked at Panera the other day if my parents knew I was skipping school.

Hate my perpetual babyface.

I'm in the same boat. Up until I was 21 I thought it was really cool that everyone thought I was older so I didn't get carded. But I was on a cruise a few months ago and someone asked if I was 28. I'm only 23! I no longer want people to assume that I'm older than I am. Scares me that when I'm 50 I'll look 60+

Hahaha! I look younger than 27. I still hear that I look early 20's. Honestly, I don't feel old, I don't look old, and dog-gone-it, I'm NOT OLD! lol.
No matter what our age, everyone always feels old as they get older. I remember feeling so old when I was 24 too. It's all relative!! 😛 We're all fabulous! Including you, Letitsnow!!!!!!!!!!!

I am 25. Yesterday my mom fell and hurt her arm and I had to take her to the ER. The doctor came in and asked if she would be driving before giving her pain meds. She said no I would be and the guy turned to me and said oh sorry, you didn't look old enough to drive 😱. I smiled (used to that) and said I am 25.

Whenever we go to Hometown buffet the cashier always says 4 adults? and looks at me like are you over 12 (the cut off for the kid discount).

I got carded in the store last year while buying super glue LOL. Didn't even know there was an age restriction for that.

This actually makes me happy to hear all the people who didn't decided to apply to college straight out of undergrad. At my finance office the UPS guy always looks at me oddly when I'm signing off for any alcohol delivered. I am the only exec assistant there and have been signing off for an entire year!

My driver license is worse. I took my pic without realizing it was going to be the main pic (i'm in pigtails). One time at this dive right by the university, I showed them my REAL ID, and the dude turned me away (even though they let in underage people with fakes ALL THE TIME). It was really really depressing.

My husband always looked really young for his age. Then he started going bald, and now he looks old for his age. He must have had a few years in there when he looked his real age, but I don't remember that. As for me, I'm pretty sure I'm even older than Let It Snow, but I'm not disclosing. Ha!

hahahah yessss, that's sort of the scenario that was running through my head. That, and, I didn't know how strict they were about putting in accurate information.

I love how an age discussion has started off of my nervous post 😎

Age can be a sensitive topic!! I just figure, I'll be 31 in 4 years anyway, so why not be a student ready to graduate from vet school in 4 years?? Makes me feel better everytime 😉

Got an email from Ohio today telling me that they received all of the required application material and that interview invites will be sent out by the en of November 👍.
