Class of 2016!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
What's with this -.06 trend?

Do Yankees fans get +.06???

I heard cubs fans get automatic acceptances. 😉

And don't say that med school isn't worth that much lol

EDIT: AHHH top finally!

I'm a Tigers fan and hopefully I don't get a .06 decrease. Mine is currently "under review" so I should get it soon!

Ouch. Detroit fan. Expect a -.12. 😉

Who told you that, Harry Caray? I wouldn't have trusted his med school advice...

So, they review the transcript after you submit it?
Also, how important is it to pick 3 most meaningful.. can it be just 1?

Yep- review after submit.

I think the most meaningful's number 1 rule is to pick things that are truly meaningful. From what I hear on here, adcoms hate "fluff".

Thanks! Just can't get myself to fill out the works/activities section.. so much fill.. GRRRR..... And yeah.. still need a grammar check on my PS.. good thing I still have a month to be decently early.

How are you guys filling out work/activities section. For the description are you being very concise and just listing what you did, or are you trying to write a narrative to explain what you got out of it? I know you definitely want to do the narrative thing for your top 3, but wasn't sure how to handle the other 12. I remember watching a stream of a focus group session put on by University of Washington and the dean of admissions there suggested going with the narrative route because they wanted to see you reflecting on your activities... I wonder if that expectation has changed with the format changes for this section in 2012. Any thoughts? So hard to actually describe something in any kind of detail in 700 characters.

(UW video of focus group is here: http://mediasite.hs.washington.edu/Mediasite/Viewer/?peid=5092d8383fdd42a98bb00ae464dfe643)

Np. good luck with the W/A section. It sucks. 👍

It's not too bad. As far as narratives go, I thought NickNaylor's style got to the point more often than not. I wrote a sentence in my non-meaningful activities reflecting on what I got out of it, with the exception of my research.

Did you guys assign LORs to the schools you picked on your AMCAS?

I've gotten two e-mails saying "action required" because I thought I would wait for secondaries until I assign them? What the heck is going on?!

You don't have to. They'll just keep sending those emails until you do 🙂

Ugh, completing work and activities is harder than I thought, especially the most meaningful descriptions 🙁

Submitting tomorrow! 🙂. All LORs will be in by tomorrow as well. Hope I get everything verified on time...

my goal is to finalize my school list, finish up some loose ends in work/activities, and submit TONIGHT! 😀

He posted his work/activities & statement on his mdapps' blog (19291) if you wanna look at it.

Thanks. I hadn't read through his blog posts before. Good stuff

So going to try getting up at 6 every other day to get ready for my test day as well as taking practice tests at that time. Unfortunately, today didn't go to well due to distractions like phone calls from work and my bowels 😛 (oh Mexican food, I love you and hate you all at once)

in other news, Liquids and Solids have replaced electricity and magnetism as the bane of my existence. Screw Bernoulli, Archimedes and his principles 😡

anyone else feeling really nervous right now? it's going to be a long, long year...hopefully eventful 😛

almost ready to submit the primaries. Trying to get someone to take a last look at my personal statement.

Ugh, wrote this detailed, eloquent and lengthy explanation for one of my most meaningful activities last night. BUT I'm an idiot and wrote in in AMCAS and didn't copy/paste to Word when I was done. I just hit continue and found out the system logged me out and all was lost. Then I gave up and went to bed. Grrr AMCAS 😡

I want to be done today and submit by tomorrow. I was looking at times from last year, and it took people 3 weeks to get verified if they submitted 6/7! 😱 But then again, it took them 3 days even if they submitted 6/1. Maybe AMCAS has gotten more efficient?

We posted at the exact same time.

Great minds 😉

I wouldn't say I'm a Cubs fan per say, but I did grow up watching them play on WGN all summer long. They kinda have a soft spot in my heart.

I wanted to ask this, so thank you for doing it for me. 😀

I have filled out everything except the most meaningful experience part. I'm just not sure how to go into it without it sounding "fluffy." I wish I had a way with words. Ah, to be eloquent...

Oh man! I hate when that happens because the next draft is never as good. Here's hoping you are able to remember what you wrote.:xf:

Has anyone on here claimed the disadvantaged/underserved status? I am trying to figure out what I should put in this section.

It comes and it goes. It's Friday now, so I'd say I feel pretty good today.

submitted 😀

Nice!

I don't think it mattered what style he had since he had a 4.0/40, and since your stats are similar I don't think it will matter that much for you either

Exactly.

I'm submitting tomorrow, too! I still have one transcript that hasn't been received and I'm getting antsy. I just want to be verified quickly!

Yeah, I really want to get it submitted by the 4th at the latest. What's the last day we can submit and still be in the first wave of secondaries?

Has anyone on here claimed the disadvantaged/underserved status? I am trying to figure out what I should put in this section.

I did. I just wrote about how as a kid my family qualified for free lunches and kids' state health insurance and how I always had to give things up that my friends were doing (voice lessons, etc). I also talked about working before age 16 and having to contribute some of that money to household expenses...and how my dad lost his job when I was in highschool, our house got repossessed and my college was 85% paid for by need based grant money. You know, the facts 🙂 I tried not be whiny about it. We'll see.

In other news, I'm still waiting for my advisor to review my application, including the PS. She PROMISED to get it back to me yesterday and still hasn't. I know she's busy and so I'm being understanding, but this is my future and I'm a neurotic premed, remember??! Grrrrrrrr, I just want to submit!

I was thinking about putting in there how my sister was born in a pickup on the way to the hospital, which is an hour away from where I lived. This would fit well with the underserved section, but wasn't sure what else to put in there. Thank you for giving me some ideas!

verified 😀
my cGPA was rounded up to x.x0 from a x.x97
and I got a .02 boost on my sGPA, ( I made a few "borderline" designations, and none were changed)

The real point was to just pick one, go with it, and stop fretting over it. 😉

I filled out that section. I just explained my situation thoroughly, and without any fluff.

I thought you were waiting a bit for your committee to get those LORs in.

Called my pre-health office, and they said they actually prefer us to submit before they send out our letters. Good thing I called.

Right- I did the same thing. Currently in the committee's queue for having my letters sent out.

I wish mine would get verified already. It has been "under review" since yesterday at around 4.

Still working on my primary. Check last year's verification thread and if I submit mid-late June, I am looking at being verified around early July. 👎 Ah well, I can still get all my secondaries in my August (well, except those that screen, who knows when I'll get those).

really? do you know what prefecture she's in? it is amazing to live here. i really wouldn't trade my time here for anything.

Didn't see this post the first time. She's teaching in a town that is in, near, or around Okayama prefecture. Where are you teaching? 🙂

Oh, and congrats on submitting! 😀

So excited to finally be applied! 😀

Does anyone know when some of the first schools will send out secondaries? And which schools will most likely have the same essays so I can maybe prewrite a few of them while bored at work. Thanks!

AMCAS transmits the first batch of primaries to schools around June 17. So probably around then.

Well amcas doesn't send your application to schools until June 17, so sometime after that.

Congrats on submitting!

Verified!
I had submitted in June-1 at 1:50pm. It changed to the following today (June-3 at 1:00pm):
Submitted to AMCAS - Under Review
An AMCAS verifier is reviewing transcripts and course work.
I have 4 transcripts from my BS, MS and a post-bacc degrees, though.

How long did it take your(s) to get verified after that stage? Do you have only one transcript?

I never saw the "Under Review" status on my app. Had two transcripts. Four is kind of a lot, but I would imagine that you will be verified very soon.

Cool avatar, by the way. I'm a kobe fan, too. 😀
