Class of 2017 cycle opening!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
GPA Finally calculated. 3.82GPA and 3.86 sGPA. I sent in three transcripts, they were received the 8th,9th and 10th and today the 22nd it was posted.

Did those of you who are applying to Western have your LOR writers fill out the evaluation form from on their website? I emailed about it and they said to have them fill it out but if it was too much of a hassle for them to submit it to interfolio then just forget about it and the letter alone is fine. Looking over the things that are on the sheet seem strange for a professor to fill out. They mostly apply to our interests in podiatry, which I don't see how somebody like my chemistry teacher would know..

GPA has been calculated! Now for them to mail it out...

I noticed the evaluation form but I was already in the process of submitting my letters so I didn't use it. I simply sent them the letters via Interfolio.

Does anyone have a rough timeframe as to when we should expect our applications to be mailed out to the schools once the GPA is calculated?

Anybody know if any of the pod schools have swimming pools? I know DMU doesnt, anyone else know? I really enjoy swimming.

Arizona definitely should have one...it's 100 degrees year round! haha

GPA Calcs up, you should all have yours aswell I hope. My calculations where meh... 3.07 tGPA and 3.37sGPA

difference is I'm a returning student my break down was:

Freshman: 2.68 (**** load of classes I did poor in)
Sophomore: 3.58
Junior: 3.78
Senior: 4.00

I hope they see the difference of 10 year old classes that dragged my gpa down, verse my recent class I been doing well in.

I sent the transcript request to my undergrad school on Aug 3rd and it has not been processed by AACPMAS yet, should I be concerned?

Processed or received???

If its not received, and your school sent them in a timely manner, then, yes, be concerned.

If they have received it, I wouldn't stress. If they have not received it then I would get on the horn to the school and resend it.

Where the tab to see when they e-submit apps?

Do they calculate your yearly GPA like that on the application or are those your calculations? I am hoping my downward trend isn't overly obvious...

Turns out, they calculate every GPA imaginable. By department, year, science, non science, cum, etc etc.

Unless its a really bad trend I wouldn't worry. You're applying early, so you should be good to go.

Yes I hope it goes out Monday.

When where the earlier batch of interview dates last year? I'm guessing we may hear something mid-sept, and maybe have interviews 4 weeks out from contact? Just a guess.

Yea it was on the aacpm website. I'm sure they can break it down more. I'm pretty sure they will also have a stat for gpa on pre-req, and other stuff they find interesting.

okay so my application is pretty much completed and I want to submit soon but...I still have to take physics two, which starts next week. I know you can turn in your application and have one or two classes that you still have to take, but my situation is that I'm taking physics two at a new school and on my trancript at the new school it wont say "physics 2 in process" until midterms.

So, should I or can I still submit my application without them knowing that I'm taking physics two in the fall? Or wait until late october to submit it.

Long as you put it as future courses you will be fine, they will know you are working towards that pre-req.

Still no set date on apps getting mailed out... hopefully sometime this week.

So i just received my gpas today, how long before i start hearing from schools??

Hi. this is my third time applying to Pod school. 30MCAT but 2.55gpa. I actually went to Western this past year but failed one class fair and square, but did just fine in the others. B's in some cases. Now I am re-applying for Class of 2017. What are my chances?? They will wonder why would I necessarily be successful there? Also, letters of recommendation will be very hard to come by as I graduated college 3 years ago. I am ready to go anywhere...If I was incapable, I would've failed more than one course, so I will not give up. Granted by undergrad gpa is atrocious, what are my other options?? If I have any for that matter....any advice would help

This is a tough situation...is that the MCAT and GPA that you were originally accepted with at Western? Did you apply or were you accepted to any other Pod schools back when you applied and got in at Western?

You will need to state that you previously attended Pod school on the application and why you left (Academic). I don't know if you will be able to get back into Western but there might be a few other Pod schools that may be willing to take you in. I wouldn't bother retaking the MCAT as that is a solid score and you don't want to risk scoring lower (unless you took it 3 years ago, then you HAVE to retake it). Any school that you have applied to before may ask you to submit one new letter of recommendation but you may want to check with each individual program that you are applying to.

Also, out of curiosity are there many retakes on your undergraduate transcript? I know D.O. schools will only count the most recent grade on your transcript so if that brings you to around a 3.0 you may want to try your hand at applying to a wide number of D.O. schools in case the Pod schools aren't willing to give you a second chance. That being said, it's really early in the cycle right now so you could apply to Pod schools right now and find out if you get in anywhere within a couple months and then apply to D.O. as a back up. That's just a suggestion, if you don't want to be an Osteopathic Physician then that's totally fine. I'm just listing your options because I figure you still want to be a Physician. Try to apply before your MCAT score expires.

Do you think I could private message you about western? The school is my top choice but I am starting to get this eerie feeling now that there are two people that got kicked out of the school posting on this forum.

soooooooooooo someone should call aacpmas and see when they are doing a mailing date.

I've called/emailed them like 4 times (about other stuff) and i don't want to push my luck anymore. Anyone wanna step up to the plate tomorrow?! 😀

How r we supposed to know? I mean i received my gpas.

On the right hand side of the app, under "Status," click on the "Programs" tab. I might be wrong, but I don't think the schools can start to go through apps until you have seen a "Mailing Date" and confirmed "Mailing Status"

For the ones that submitted during the first week of August, you should expect an email or phone call from varying schools end of this week or early next.

I'm tempted to call and find out but then again it has only been since the 9th that they even had all of my transcripts. Then there is their whole "up to five weeks" disclaimer that they have on the website. This may be good news. Maybe there hasn't been as many applicants this year and so it is taking them longer to reach their "bulk mail" quantity....we'll see. Has everyone sent in all of their LOR's? I'm still waiting on the pod to get his uploaded and I want to send them all in together.

Really that quickly?? Well be hearing from schools by this week or early next??

Even though none of us have mailing dates?!?

Haha the five week thing is why is why I never called too. Lol don't want to bite the hand that feeds me...

My LOR sitch: I ordinarily would have said, yes, all my LORs are sent in. However I got an email about an hour ago from one of my professors saying he has written the LoRs, but hasn't been able to find official college envelopes/letterhead. I imagine a similar story is true with my other prof (coincidentally whose father passed away last week...). The science building at my school went through a complete renovation over the summer and the professors were only allowed to return to the building at the beginning of last week. So they've been busy unpacking and getting settled in the new building and it has put my LoR on the back burner I guess. I asked for the LoRs about 2 months ago, but i figured this would happen. Im not really all that upset about it - I've heard of interviewing without LoRs and without MCAT, so I should be fine!

Yes. Schools can access your application online as soon as they are "mailed."

Yeah, but no one has seen a mailing date yet... So how are you confident they will be "mailed" this week and that the schools will have time to evaluate all the apps before Friday?

The "evaluation" is looking at your gpa and MCAT (If applicable.) The rest is reviewed before your interview.

My confidence comes from past cycles. If you doubt me why not ask a student on here that applied early last cycle.

That is rough about the LOR's and all of the coincidental events...Two of my LOR's were uploaded within days of me sending the link to them. (granted I had given them a several month heads up) But the Pod I have been shadowing has really been slacking! haha He emailed me a week and a half ago and said that he had it written and just needed to submit it and that it would be taken care of beginning of last week AND...still no letter. Oh well. I figure as long as they get sent out roughly the same time that our apps get "mailed" out we should be fine. Even later I suppose from what you say Max.
