Class of 2017!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Lol. I'm done at the end of May. So pumped.

I'm leaving my job June 28th....hello 5 week vacation before the real fun begins.

i'm taking 3 weeks in June! Returning to work for a few weeks in july though--need some more $$ and have to train my replacement. But looking forward to some time off!!

So . . . what are peoples' opinions about those lame-Os on SDN who aren't actually applying to medical school, but their spouse/SO/family member is applying, and they just want to know more about the process because their spouse/SO/family member refuses to "do" SDN because they're not as crazy and type A? Just asking, you know, on behalf of a friend.

I'm okay with it. I'm even more okay with white text.

Knowledge is power n stuff.

Awesome, I agree, those people are neat. I'll let my friend know.

Decided to let my facial hair grow out for the next few weeks before I move and start anatomy in June. Never done it before since it grows kinda sparsely, but I figured now's as good a time as I'll find. I won't be seeing anyone here for years to come. Plenty of time to live down the scraggly almost-beard that I'm sure will result. Lol

I approve 👍

I had a beard for a few months and just recently shaved it off. I loved it. My girlfriend hated it. Apparently she had the final say.

Is this going to be you?

I am letting my facial hair grow out too. That's what started this whole changing my avatar every week.

Speaking of which, here's week #2 avatar pic.

She taught several of my classes and labs last year. Towards the end of the fall semester, she was diagnosed with ALS. Despite that, she continued teaching and running the department for another year.

She wrote me a letter of recommendation. 🙁

My heart was breaking at this last night. She's been through so much crap... She should have left while she had the chance!

So sorry to hear that. My mom was diagnosed with ALS almost 4 years ago. It's a really difficult disease.

Ugh that's like my fear. Bad planning and running out of money BEFORE I move in anywhere.

Yeah, I decided that starting this month I need to cut back on my spending just to be on the safe side.

In better news, I found a potential place for next year at a decent price. Going to see it tomorrow... Also trying to figure out how much I want to spend on an Ikea spree. 🙂

LOVE Ikea. And it's right next to the Mall of America. I can do all of my med school shopping in one place!

I wish! Ok, maybe not THAT much. Lol
I curse my father for giving super-crappy facial hair genes though. Grows out quick, just...sparse. Lol

I approve 👍

I approve the approval. Moral support is appreciated.

It's actually my wife's idea, although now that I'm a week in she won't commit to say if it looks ok or not. 🙂

It's a little weird seeing new threads pop up about applying for the upcoming cycle, knowing we won't be a part of it.

At the same time though, I am extremely grateful I don't have to go through that process again. Until 4th year that is...

My thoughts exactly. 👍

For some reason I keep telling myself that residency apps won't be as bad...but I'm pretty sure they will. I think I'll be a better/more informed applicant than I was for med school, but the match sounds rough.

Im just focusing on surviving MS1 for now. And then Step 1. And then residency apps.

With a whole lot of panicking in between all those.

Yeah I may or may not have already started playing with Anki and looking into Firecracker...

😳

Also, I'm starting to realize always going to the dealer for my car might be dumb; it doesn't take 1.5+ hours to patch a tire.

Thankfully they have the Heat/Bulls game on in the customer lounge. 👍

😳

Yeah, I have to look into Firecracker. IDK if FC/Anki/GT are just for the step or can they be used for the first year of medical school.

That's some $$$

Yeah.

Though if it works it's just a drop in the bucket. A few hundred bucks isn't bad if it'll help on the exam that potentially decides my income bracket for the rest of my career. I believe you get a 30 day trial period, so I'll definitely check it out before buying.

I hear ya, hopefully I wont run out of money this summer.

Seriously. I actually am actually realizing that when I subtract out move-in costs I only have enough money to get me through June...financial aid disburses at the end of August 😳

Ooooh 30 day trials... I like it!

Moving costs are the reason that I am working past mid May. And the end of August seems a bit late? Does your program not begin until sometime in September?

Interesting... I didn't know that. Looks like I really do need to cash out all of my vacation time instead of using it 👎

PTO is going into moving truck cost, gas and signing a lease.

Yep. Her program starts at the beginning of September.

Yeah, specifically the Seattle campus.

I may start in beginning to mid August.

Yup. First day of class is September 3!

I ran to the end of my saving with apps & interviews and my hours got cut at my job. So...my last non-working summer might actually not be.

Man. Heat choking in the stretch. Didn't anticipate this.
