Class of 2017!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just curious, when does everyone officially start?

My orientation is Aug 6-9 and classes start on the 12th. Im going to be pretty nervous for that first class!

Oreintation is the 7th through the 11th. Classes start the 12th. I can't wait! Bring it on medical school, show me your worst! 😛

Almost exactly the same. We have white coat on the 6th, orientation is a week and classes start the week after.

n00b q: What happens during orientation, and why does it last so long?? Law school orientation was only a few hours, and that was already overkill. 😱

Honestly, I think it's a whole lot of team building stuff. They'll ease us into it.

I'm imaging lots of team-building/social exercises, presentations and whatnot.

oh . . . sounds fun 🙄

I plan to punch the first person who drops their MCAT score

I plan on wearing a personalized white coat with my GPA and MCAT embroidered on it.

I hope you two are going to different schools :naughty:

And for everyone to hook up with everyone. Med school is incestuous.

Gotta start those physician families somewhere.

👎 (said the wifey)

Oh man, things just got complicated over on this side of the country. My state school just notified me that they're considering me for a scholarship. I love OHSU so, so, so very much and essentially decided on it, holding my state school in the event something fell through. But considering that my state school gives out less than 10 scholarships to a class of 165 and the fact that it might be a substantial difference on the order of $100k or more total...like $82k/yr at OHSU vs $30k-50k a yr at the state school...I just might be swayed.

But I honestly doubt I'll get it. And I'd still rather go to OHSU...but...ugh, anyway, all I can do is wait.

Ders is our commencement speaker! Too bad I decided to graduate in December 🙁

Awe, man! Any friends graduating!? :naughty:
Why is that woman with the hat mad? Is she jelly of the sloth? :naughty::naughty:
Dude, if you look closely, you can tell she's totally spacing and chewing on her lip. She must not like Gossling or Sloths. LoL

Tons actually! I'm technically in their class. I just decided to pop my bachelor degree cherry a bit early :naughty:. I'll actually be across the Atlantic on a big boat during the ceremonies, so I may have gotten the better end of that deal :meanie:

My undergrad orientation lasted almost a week. Is that not typical?

Coming from Ryu, that could hurt.

Does anybody else feel cheated by a "short" white coat? I already own long white ones with my name on it. It feels a bit like being demoted.

and team sloth.

That's def a good problem to have. I will be hoping for need-based loans...

Good point, my undergrad orientation was a week too. (Actually, it was a week-long beer fest. Going to college in Quebec had its advantage. Singular form intended).

Oof, good luck with the decision if it comes to that :luck:

Well first off congrats on getting consider for a scholarship! Yeah, money always seems to put a spin on things (at least in my situation).

Worst part about living with a significant other: when they go out to bars on weekdays and you have work early the next morning. I can't wait to get woken up by my drunken girlfriend and room mates three hours before I have to go to work. Add that to today's list of #firstworldproblems

Thanks!
What's everyone's plans for mommy's day?

... betches....
Drop off a card and run.

Thanks! Yep, I'm pretty darn dizzy from that spin.

LoL, the joys of staggard schedules and EtOH.

Mornin' betches!

This whole three month's rent up-front thing is killing me, here. I'm poor.

That's the first I've heard of such a large front... sorry for your losses

Nah, b.

Turned down a paltry scholarship from my state. Depending on other expenses, I valued my happiness at a difference... just not as great of one as that.

Agreed. Without any scholarships, my state school is around $65k a year COA vs $82k at OHSU. I valued my happiness, hands-down.

All I can do is wait... I emailed the secretary this morning to see if she could give me a date when they're expecting to have all decisions made and disseminated... This also affects my 19 y/o gf... Yep, we got serious. She applied to two universities in Portland and was intending to follow me out (and live in campus housing, not together--not that cray cray yet 😉 ).

EDIT: I also turned down a $10k per year scholarship from Western U in Cali. Same scenario.

Technically it's the first month's, last month's, and a security deposit. I haven't signed a lease yet, but I'm finding that a lot of places are doing this now, which is a pain in the ass since I'll have to borrow money from my parents and pay them back when loans are actually disbursed.

At least you have that option. 🙂

Also looking into living with three third years at Jeff, which would be pretty cool. Rent is also much cheaper and I would get my own large room with a huge walk-in closet. I think the choice here is obvious. Going to meet them next week and check out the place in person.

I don't think you get to call anything unnecessary.

Yeah.. never had that happen before.. Most I've had is deposit + 1st month if moving in immediately. Unlucky. May your financial problems be at peace.

Edit: saw your next post.

Roommates for life.

I heard back. They're trying to expedite the decision. :scared:

Guys. Tots is posting Europe pics on Facebook. I can't wait to be there.

That is all.

Did he go backpacking alone? 😱 How many people are you going with incognito?

on another note: saw Iron man 3 on saturday. Was pretty disappointed :/

Have yet to see it, but I've been getting highly polarized reviews. I've never been a big Iron Man fan to start. Call me when the Doctor Strange movie hits in a couple of years.

Man I really want to do something before school starts, but all my friends are working -_-, and I refuse to go traveling alone.
