Thank you so much! I had it today and they didn’t tell me how long it was going take to get back to me. How long did it take for you? Im so sorry to bother

They didn’t tell me either, but I got an acceptance exactly one week later. Good luck! I’m sure you did great!

Good luck with your interview. Let us know how it goes after. Thanks
Thank you!

The interview went well! I did end up getting accepted to UHCO and will be attending next fall. The interview portion of the day was very conversational and low-stress. The questions listed on SDN were helpful for prep, but there were also questions that threw me off, for example they asked "What is something you can teach us now in 5 mins?" and my mind literally was like you're on your own. But it seems that didn't hurt my application.

The day is long, but you get a break before the interview. It's a panel type interview, and I had 3 different people asking me questions. I was nervous at first because they were aggressively taking notes while I talked, but they were really so kind. It is also a closed file interview, so all they know is your name.

I am happy to answer any questions!

Around what time did you get your emails? :D
The unofficial acceptance email I received around 5pm. The official letter of acceptance I got in the morning hours, some time around 10-11am.

Hi!!! Any advice for the SUNY interview?
I was interviewed by two people and one of them was a psychology professor so I was a little nervous lol especially since my other interviews were with one faculty member.
It was open file and they asked why I had drops and withdrawals so I had to explain those.
the questions were just the usual, they started by the usual tell me about yourself, and why optometry, why SUNY. they also asked about my shadowing hours and if any patients' conditions stood out. and finally they asked about three characteristics I thought would make a good optometrist.

Yeah, of course! I think ICO said they would be reaching out on the 14th of this month (so two weeks from the interview) and MCPHS said it'll take about a week and a half from the date of my interview.

Anyone, please give me advice about which schools I could apply to without OAT. I am studying for OAT but haven't made the exam date yet. I am worried that would be too late if I apply to schools after getting OAT.

My choices are MCPHS, Salus, and IUSO. How hard to get into these schools? Thank you.

So without the OAT, schools will only have GPA to look at for previous academic success. If you have a strong GPA along with extracurriculars/shadowing/etc., I think it would be fine to apply to the schools that don’t require the OAT. But i wouldn’t put all your hope in these schools. I think we are a little over half way for the application cycle, so things are becoming a little more competitive as well. But if you feel like you need to take the OAT just in case, go ahead and take it to get it out of the way. But be sure to look at the application deadlines for the schools you are looking into. You got it!

IUSO does not require the OAT anymore by the way! So you can go ahead and apply to that school.

Any advice of the NSUCO interview? How did it go? Any tips? What did you wear? (Girls, how did you style your hair)?

I am currently still taking classes I need for the OAT, but applied anyway. I've attended lots of webinars for the schools I was interested in, and they all say the same thing - DON'T WAIT to apply if you haven't taken the OAT!

Also worth noting that many schools now accept the GRE, so I applied with those scores because I was prepared to take it long before I would be prepared to take the OAT (and before I submitted my applications.) Numbers is only part of the game, LOR and personal statement go a looooooong way.

ICO Class of 2025! Can't wait!

FWIW: I have a strange background that started in music education, transitioned to marketing and advertising, and now here I am entering optometry school at 32 years old, so if anyone wants insight from someone who doesn't have a BA in biology or even took the OAT but still got into optometry school, I'm happy to help however I can.

Hey! So honestly I thought the NSUCO interview was very laid back and conversational. First you have the faculty interview (one person, closed file), then the academic interview (one person, open file), and finally you meet with the associate dean and this is with a group of people (very laid back, asked us each one question about our extracurriculars). The last thing you do is a Q&A with current students. The faculty and academic interviews went well and they really help to ease your nerves. Like I said it was very conversational so there is nothing to be nervous about! They aren't trying to trip you up, they just want to get to know you! When we met with the dean it was a group of about 10 of us and she gave a virtual tour of the campus and talked to us about the program. I wore a dress with a blazer and straightened my hair. There is nothing to be nervous about and just remember that they gave you an interview for a reason! Good luck!

Graduated in May. I am a reapplicant bc my OAT scores weren't high enough last cycle and I applied kind of late. I haven't heard back from SCO and IUSO but I'm honestly happy with UIWRSO.

UIWRSO Class of 2025!!! :)
Hi! Congrats on your acceptance :) I was wondering what something different you changed for your studying when taking the OAT for the third time? My scores are the same as yours, I didn't get higher than 300 for the first two attempts and I want to score above 300 on the third one. Thank you!
