Class of all but 2013

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
well except for the annomally known as RySerr, the Cali kids have trouble getting into cali schools.

id argue the bigger reason is because we just have so many damn applicants, rather than the schools biasing against cali applicants (and its clear that the majority of entering classes to the schools here are cali bred)

i was referring to your disliking of the state in general.

California, FTW. And you guys should apply to Florida schools, btw. Just cause Florida's awesome.

Yes, I am biased, thank you for asking.

it makes cbrons blood pressure skyrocket when he sees two men holding hands on the street 😍

common sight here 😍 😍

If I wanted to live in a communist country, I'd go to Vietnam or North Korea... lol, to be honest i was born in Cali. Isn't that state supposed to go bankrupt pretty soon? I could've sworn I heard the governator say something about it in the news.

haha not at all... ill hold your hand anyday buddy!

ooo yay!

although this seems way too soon =(
but i'm way too excited to care

Yeah, cbrons should definitely apply to Florida schools. Don't worry, buddy, guys don't hold hands here.

what are the FL schools that are OOS friendly?

USF for one. RySerr got in there 👍. UCF will be as well, probably by next year (even though it's new) <-- I suspect they will have good scholarships this coming cycle even though nothing has been confirmed as of yet. UMiami is a mixed bag; it's not as OOS friendly as you would expect from a private school, but you should see if it's your cup of tea because they definitely take OOSers.

FIU is kind of indeterminate and actually I wouldn't particularly recommend it unless you're hot-to-trot about primary care and want to spend 70K per year on tuition.

Unfortunately, UF is not OOS-friendly and I don't know about FSU. But UF is a good school and their secondary is only $30 so it might be worth the application.

How do you know I'm not gay pianola?

Aside from the fact that it would be a huge loss to women the world over.

Wait, other than the avatar of you with your ex-girlfriend? 😉

And the fact that you posted all over sankondbest's thread with how to 'get' women? 😉

she's my ex-girlfriend? news to me

Wait, wait wait, didn't you post about how you were going to break up with her or something? And how you couldn't focus? Like right when you were studying for the MCAT or something??? 😕😕

maybe I did? I don't remember. I just broke up with one of my girlfriends a few weeks ago.

thanks, added USF for now and will think about UCF until i get it clarified whether they are OOS friendly for this cycle.

i thought this was funny from USF's admissions site about LORs:

personal/character letters can be from your family physician, employer, close friend, neighbor, alumni, or any person who can attest to your interest in medicine.

Just starting this thread for my second-born daughter circa 2017.

Honestly, I wasn't even trying to be a jerk by starting the 2015 thread. I had good intentions...

I think someone genuinely started the 2016 thread too, so all us '13ers were like WTF. 3/4 of those pre-meds will disappear by the time 2012 rolls around.

I figured people graduating in 2015 needed a thread, to discuss MCAT preparation over the summer, getting recommendations, etc. It was legit bro! I have no idea how it became the running joke of SDN.

****ing idiot.

hook up with a URM, it'll help the kid out tons.

Yup. I'm planning to hook up with a black girl during my third year of med school. My residency as a pediatric neurosurgeon MGH will be tough on the relationship, but we'll survive and have four wonderful children.

I'm in the same timeframe as you as far as a potential graduation is concerned, and don't worry, your thread is legit and had good intentions. 🙂

It's just really funny that it came up right after the SDN commandments, that's all. That and 2038... it is kinda funny. 😀 But no worries...

You guys are just overachievers, that's all 🙂

Yeah, UCF is giving out full COA scholarships this year -- for the ENTIRE class. I think next year there is definitely going to be some money for the class as well. It's worth looking into. The ultimate plan is to become a school that considers applicants equally from all states, at least according to REL who is the admissions officer for UCF.

Oh and btw I never turned in a character letter to USF and got accepted anyway. I'm a big fan of the school 😉.

sigh.. starting to think this thread was a mistake now..

Lol, you don't know who we are anyway, so who cares what we think? Stick to your guns, that's going to be important during your interviews 🙂

I was at a symposium of the FL med schools last spring and I wasn't too impressed with the presentation that FIU gave. I don't think I'd want to go there. UCF on the other hand, was awesome. I guess they sort of had an advantage since they hosted the symposium, but they had an amazing presentation. I used to be a FL resident, but I moved to AZ. I still may apply to UCF though....they said at the symposium that at least for the first class, they were not favoring in-state applicants. Eventually, they probably will.

Actually, they slightly favored in-state applications for 2013. 30 IS, 10 OOS. The next class will be twice that size (80 people) and the proportion of OOS is supposed to be even higher.

I think we should motion for a sticky for 09-10 app cycle similar to " '08+'09 Applicant Sticky (PS help, Invites, Secondaries, Waitlists, etc)""

There is already a PS reader list , and many of us are thinking about AMCAS and secondaries already.

Mods, What do you think??

I hope this does not result in 16 stickies ranging from 09-38.

That's cool...maybe I will apply there. I wasn't sure how many OOS they would take. I agree with you that they probably will have some sort of scholarship for the second class, although it may not be the whole 40,000. They were vague about it at the symposium, but they definitely implied that there would be something.

How many schools are you guys going to apply to? Who all in this thread is applying to a Louisiana school?

I'll probably apply to about 8-10 schools, including all those in Louisiana. My top choice is Baylor, hands down. . . but it seems like such a long-shot

Haha I'll admit that I wanted to, but I resisted :]

For real? Let's give it up people. The first couple of threads were cute, not it is ridiculous. Funny but ridiculous.
