I.E. since you don’t know which ones care, send them to all of them to be safe. If they have a mailing address on the paper they hand out and don’t explicitly say “no thank you cards”, then send one.
Id be lying if i said i wasnt doing that too. But more with the IMG side of things, not so much DO (my best friend is an OMS4 and she knows her stuff better than i do lol).
But, it was a little awkward at one former AOA program where i was the only MD applicant and there were 11 DOs. I felt like i was facing an uphill battle.
At the end of one of the interview days a PC said “you are welcome to send all handwritten thank yous to me and I can distribute them for you”. I didn’t bite either. I’ve been doing emails, maximum.
Doing that never crossed my mind. Absolutely not.
4 more to go. Anyone else feet fat and bloated bc of the free dinners and meals, Im dying. Kinda looking forward to not interviewing and just going back to my scheduled. I cancelled 12 interviews and have no regrets
After sending handwritten thank yous for my away rotation I saw how difficult it was to find direct office addresses of literally anyone and decided that email was the safe and easy way to go. I did not like the implication that it was expected for me to send a packet of thank yous en masse.
I have gotten a couple of handwritten thank you notes for interviewing, at various programs, from the PD, residents, they usually come in a bunch. I only emailed programs tbh, and it makes me feel as if I should've handwritten ugh
lol how desperate can they be!
I’ve cancelled probably that many as well. I think i have plenty of good programs to rank.
And SAME. I’ve been gaining so much weight in general... and my one suit is a sheath dress, which is at least a size too small and I feel awful wearing it.. a better diet and exercise is cheaper than another suit though.
For real, five more. I might cancel the one.. or maybe two.

Lol I stopped trying to be sensible with my diet even before thanksgiving. Now I’m the person at the airport eating and drinking all day between layovers. Then eating again when I get to my destination...

Me: About the 50th.
Them:Oh ok. That leaves you in the running then, but barely. The DOs we have currently scored over the 95th percentile on level 2

No, a couple weeks back. Interview was on a Monday so maybe sounds like a different program. Hate that multiple places are pressuring us to do that!
Hittin the trail again next week. Of course the minute I went back on a rotation I wanted out again.
Wutdafuq? The things these programs get away with.
Has anyone generally liked a program but disliked the PD? And how much does that influence your rank list?
Guysssss. I’m in probably my favorite city so far. These guys don’t have a pre interview dinner so I’m sitting in a gastropub eating goat cheese fried chicken pizza with a rosè beer. I’m digging this a lot more than the socially draining pre interview dinners

Depends. If I think they’re just bland/boring and I like everything else I don’t care. If I think they’re jerks, it GREATLY affects my list. They’re the ones that control the residency and influence your time there the most.
I'm an artist and I wasn't planning to send any handwritten cards but at today's interview they told me "When you send us a thank you card, I want you to include x art piece and y art piece" and now I feel obligated to send a thank you card and art.... This isn't even necessarily my top program and I feel like if I send one, then I need to send cards to every program I've interviewed, especially since MP is so small and all the PDs know each other so it'd be awkward if this program told all the others that they got a handmade art card from me while no one else did.. 🙁

Did you say “that’s an inappropriate request”? Because it is. I mentioned my art in interviews and I don’t think I would have been able to hold back a shocked laugh if someone requested I make a handmade thank you card.

agreed hahaha I had 21 cancelled 7. I’ve been on 9 so far and I am so out of it at this point and sick of being asked the same questions over and over again. I’m especially tired of the stupid behavioral questions they keep asking (End rant)
Ive been on 12 and im just tired of it all.
One more friday and then Im done until January 8th. I can do this

This reads like a parody post.
Normally when someone asks for free art I just direct them to my commissions pricing page but they slipped it right at the end of the interview as we were getting ready to leave and I think I was more shocked at the fact that they said WHEN you send us a thank you card, implying that it was something expected that I should do??? I'm hoping they were saying it just as a lighthearted comment without actually meaning it--it was a faculty member and not the PD or APD so I think I should be fine???

You guys this last interview I went on has been super fun. Hung out with some awesome applicants after the interview.had a nice dinner. It was refreshing.

Honestly at this point there is no way i would accept anymore interviews (Even if Harvard decided to take back their rejection and invite me lol). I’m pretty done and content with the ones I have. I think it’s totally okay to cancel ones you don’t really have an interest in.

My town has 1 dry cleaners. I spoke with them last time I picked up my suit and asked if they could do same day/next day because their normal turn around is 1 week. I explained my interview situation this month.
He said we don’t like to advertise One day because so many people would want it, but that if I dropped it off first thing in the morning he could do it for extra charge, understanding my situation.
I woke up early today on my only day off from travel, went to the dry cleaners, got there by 7:50 (they open at 7:30) and asked for one day. He said since tomorrow is Saturday he couldn’t do that because he got a head start this morning and started the only load of darks before they opened to get a head start on the day. My next interview is Monday, and I have a steamer. It’ll probably be alright, I just wanted it clean when I had the opportunity.

I heard that there's a candidate on the MP interview trail who's only planning to rank 2 programs so they can try to SOAP into one of the top tier programs since in the past MP has always had unfilled seats (including big name programs whose ranked candidates all matched into other big name programs)..

Change of topic but is anyone waiting for CS result and freaking out about if the time and expense just expended going a bunch of interviews was pointless?
I am in your position except that I don't get my grade until January 29th. I was freaking out after the left the test center because I felt like I didn't do enough to pass but after hearing stories of the many mistakes other people made and passed, I feel better. Depending on what specialty you are going for they might not ask for your CS score before ranking. IF worse case scenario you fail then don't say anything to the program and take it as soon as possible. Good luck.

Not to sound rude or offensive at all, but why do so many people wait and takes CS/PE so late in 4th year, it was such an easy exam, why not just take it later 3rd year and get it out of the way?
I wanted to take it earlier but didn’t realize how far in advance it needed to be booked. I remember scheduling in February and seeing that October was the earliest date at my preferred site. Location limitations impact how early people can take it. Also I know people who wanted to wait until after our OSCE to have a practice run with feedback (watching the tape back with faculty). We were advised not to take it until after this. At the beginning of fourth year people are juggling aways and applications and it would be silly to bank on an audition rotation attending giving you time off to take CS.

I hear ya. I was just wondering, seems so stressful to worry about this in the midst of the cycle. Im glad I got it done March of 3rd year, it made life easy. But Good luck to you!!
Thanks! I was lucky enough to get my score back (pass!) but it’s wild to me that people who took it before me still have to wait. Such an awful system.
Because my school is restrictive about it...
That and money. Expensive exam and my loans hadnt dispersed.
