Does anybody ever wonder what these AAMC/ERAS/NRMP a $ $ holes administrators were like as children and as med students? What went so wrong in their lives that they decided to play unnecessarily torturous mind games on people who just want to be physicians? Were they trying to change the system but the system inserted itself parasitically into them and used them as meat suits? Did they spectacularly fail up throughout their lives? Are they borderline automatons who just try to make things efficient without taking into consideration students'/families' feelings?
I'm unbearably frustrated by this whole process, but I'm also genuinely curious. Are there people you can pick out in your class who will become the futureevil overlords leaders of these organizations? I think I can pick out a couple in my class.

To be fair while the match is frustrating I’ve yet to hear anyone propose a superior system. Remember that what we had before was lots of back room deals and old boys clubs where talent mattered even less and race/gender/money/who you know mattered far more.
Although I agree the price gouging needs to stop.
My brain has started to give me stress dreams that allow me to problem solve and fix the source of stress instead of the previous stress dreams that just gave me ennui. I think it’s trying to help.

When I was applying/interviewing I was so into the whole process. I made notes for where had the best schedule, resources, faculty, prestige, QOL in the city, all that.
It’s amazing how all those things have just faded away.
If I find out I didn’t match come Monday, I’ll be ok with it. If I open the envelope and see:
“Congratulations! You have match at Punch in the Nuts College of Medicine, in scenic Gnome, Alaska”
I’d be ok with it. Guess that’s the best place I could get into. Time to buy a parka and start looking for the least depressing housing possible on Zillow.
Don’t just do Zillow - Trulia and apartments.com both seem to have unique findings and more options than Zillow at least in the places I am looking!

Everyone keeps telling me "oh you'll match don't worry" but I cannot shake that bad feeling that I won't.

With the current trend it seems that most if not all schools will be canceling Match Day, especially if the virus numbers increase to the level that people say they will in a week or so. I never planned to go to Match Day but I know it means a great deal to a lot of people so I’m sad for the thousands of students who won’t get to do something they’ve likely looked forward to for many years. I personally really hope I get to have a graduation!

You all can still go home and celebrate with your friends and family. Family and friends health is more important than a match day ceremony. I get it probably sucks for some people who wanted to have a large celebration but it's okay. Matching itself is a big deal. A ceremony is just to make it a little sweeter.
If my school cancels graduation also I want some of that money back. Give me a refund for that senior tuition!!!

I would hope someone in admin would get creative for creating some independent study or doing a certain number of NEJM interactive cases or something else like that to earn credits.
Our school cancelled Match Day today. I was bummed, but I thought it would matter more to me. I realized I would really only be upset if we don’t have a graduation ceremony, but it’s not looking great the way things are going...
It’s not looking good. We will probably be at Italy’s level in a few days. Thinking about public congested transport and just one carrier shedding the virus makes me nauseous.
Our school hasn't cancelled match day and the conference I was supposed to go to has not been cancelled...
I'm bummed. Can I just stay home?
I was able to transfer all my bookings to Iceland, and it was $700 cheaper so all that money is funneling into doing cool ****. 😀 yay for good news
Mine essentially canceled Match as well, now it’s only a small gathering for students only. Sounds like most people my class are skipping that as well because they want to share the day with family.
Thinking graduation will be next - especially since Covid has been confirmed in my state (Michigan) now.

Man that Reddit thread was horrifying and funny at the same time.
All our clinical sites have been told no student should care for a patient on precautions.
And my match day is cancelled. NY in case you are wondering. If my electives and graduation are cancelled i can move on March 20 assuming I match.

School sent out an e-mail stating that we are not allowed to take Match Day off.

Lmao.. that's crazy. I have Friday and Saturday off and working again starting Sunday but not getting match day off is bit over the top.

We dont have rotations during match week. Kinda ridiculous they made match day mandatory for you

DO student with alright board scores, applying a PC specialty with 10 ranks. Interviews went well, got complemented on my letters and statement. 2018 outcome data for DOs say I have a 97% chance with 10 ranks. But I’ve still got this terrible feeling my phone screen will say “Unfortunately you did not match any position” at 11AM on Monday.
I’m just thinking, out of all the great applicants, how on earth am I going to be high enough on one of those 10 programs lists to match? And with the merger what if there’s some unpredictable crash in match rates?

I requested the day off a while back. It’s still an important day. I’m not going to rotations that day.
Im sure im losing my Eurotrip after losing graduation. This really sucks. Work your butt off for four years and this is the last real break we have.
Ya know what that’s fair.
