I bought a couch for my house. Wooooo!

Hope everyone is doing good with the getting to new places and adjusting 🙂

Curious how much you spent and where you got the couch from if you don't mind sharing!! Looking into getting a new one as well.

How does ERAS app work with sending in/uploading your transcript/step scores??

Does this happen instantly or does it take days/weeks? I am scheduled for step exam end of August and want to make sure my score is in by October 21st deadline this year

It’s more or less instant when you release the score report to ERAS. As long as your score is back it shouldn’t be a delay waiting for ERAS.

is there any advantage to sending everything in when ERAS opens on Sept 1, 2020?

Yeah, I went to Ashley furniture and spent $600. I got an oversized couch, I’ve gotten the cheap stuff before and it’s all broken down in a couple years. I wanted something to last the entirety of residency

We booked our big trip next May...
anddd my passport expires October 2021.

Passport renewals are currently 5-7 months behind. Im terrified to send mine in for the renewal.

I believe you can still pay for expedited renewal? Would be worth calling.

Expedited passport service is on hold too.
Be sure you get your passport info from either the US Department of State or USPS.
Sometimes the first few search engine items that come up are private companies that will stand in line for you to expedite, some legit some not.
Passport info US Dept of State (COVID-19 edition)

They keep saying to wait until services resume.. which obviously is up in the air. Id be more than willing to pay the expedited fee if it comes to that, but for now, idk what to do.

Have you confirmed that the country you’re traveling to has a time requirement on passport expiration? Not all of them do and the ones that do can be as little as 3 months.

Moved to PA a few days ago--woohoo my 4th state in the past decade! (I guess 5th state if you count my away rotation) Definitely going to miss living by the water and having mild winters; CA and VA have definitely spoiled me. Worst thing right now is that bc of covid, I can't get internet installed "until further notice" and I'm not allowed to self install..what's the point of paying $90/month in addition to rent for internet that doesn't even exist 🙄 For now I'm using a mobile hotspot....with a shared family data plan of only 2GB/month... o-(-<

I also got my vacation block for the last 2 weeks of May 2021...which means I will go an entire year and a half of not seeing my parents (I last saw them mid-January 😕. THANKS COVID YOU'VE BEEN SWELL)

That sucks. Sorry to hear that.

Thank you 🙂 It is what it is; even though it's really difficult to live with incredibly limited internet I'm thankful that I have homebody hobbies to keep myself busy (journaling, bullet journaling, art, youtube content creator, etc.)

No no no no that is NOT okay. Can you find another provider? Switch to T-Mobile. We have UNLIMITED data with them.

Sorry about your schedule. My good friend at a different program got her last choice in the schedule lottery and now I’m pretty much dreading getting mine.

I’m sure you have done this but def look at other providers because it may be possible that the place you were in is already wired for a different provider. That way they can just send you a router you plug in instead of needing a tech to come out. Your landlord may know what the previous tenants were using. I am hot spotting right now as well as our router won’t get here until next week. Idk what part of PA but Verizon Fios stopped doing contracts so if your place is wired for them, maybe you could just go month to month with them until the other place is able to send a tech out.

That's really rough. You can't get any vacation time before then?

Also ATT first net is offering 3 months free to physicians/nurses. You might be able to get it with your contract. It’s unlimited everything.

Verizon is giving an allowance of 15GB for this month free so at least I have that. Not sure what June will look like though. And unfortunately I love Verizon too much to give them up; their service coverage definitely beats all other carriers. I appreciate the suggestions though <3

I wish you the very best of luck with your schedule and hope you get what you want!!<3

My new apt has a bulk account with Verizon Fios so basically all I am responsible for is creating an account under my name and then the billing is through my apt and included as part of my rent. I called Verizon to ask about self installing since the building should already be wired but they claimed that "there's a switch that needs to be turned on by the technician"... you'd think that's a no contact service though LOL. The leasing office has also tried to get in touch with them regarding installation but apparently they get a different response/excuse every time they try to call

I'm still waiting on my vacation request for internal med and hoping for end of February so I can get at least 4 months of IM before taking Step 3. Definitely feeling slightly screwed over starting on peds and doing a MP program where the internship is 16mo long but I'm still required to take Step 3 during the first 12mo of residency...

Plan on doing RePAYE and PSLF and would like my first 6-12 month’s payment to be zero. Filling out the Fed Loan consolidation form online, it asks Employed or Unemployed. If residency starts next month, how to answer this? Is this how to get zero payments? I filed 2019 Tax with no income. Thanks for any advice.

I have the same question. My gut says “employed” since technically we have been hired.

just got a full mattress off of amazon for 205 with shipping, taxes, and other crap included. It's a zinus, 10 inch, memory foam. I can let you know how it is, but I don't subscribe to the idea that you need to spend thousands on a comfortable mattress. When you come back from a 36 hour residency shift you could probably fall asleep in a spiked coffin.
The mattress is crazy comfortable and nice. Money well spent. But if I'm being real, my new place stinks (neighbors from hell). Already considering moving out. Now I have to decide how soon I can do it, and whether I should try to weather the storm or quickly drop it and find something else within the next month before residency starts. You never know who your neighbors are gonna be, and I moved into a "up and coming" area. Few lessons learned that's for sure.

Thanks @Matthew9Thirtyfive and @Oedipa Maas. I had heard some worrisome stories from friends who were driving a few weeks ago (more toward the start of the pandemic). Almost at a destination, they would double check the reservation and find it had been cancelled with no notice. Frantic hotel searches ensued. I hope that with some things being re-opened that won't happen.

Should definitely be better now -- A few weeks ago, hotels didn't know from day to day whether they'd be open that night or not. Seriously.

Sorry to hear about the neighbors. Are you in a stand-alone house/apartment or an apartment complex?

It's this weird condo/apartment type thing. 4 units per building, about 10 buildings in a row, with a little outside area dividing them. They are treating the outside area like their own "rave".

I would at least set up some custom Trulia, Zillow, and Apartments searches that send you email updates. You can change frequency so that every time something with your preferences pops up they email you or just a once a day update, etc. Low effort and if a better place pops up, it pops up and you can bail. If not, you can at least know that you did your best and nothing better was available anyway.

Sorry to hear that about your neighbors, I had something very similar at my old place but it really didn’t reveal itself until shelter in place. If you have to stay, hopefully once this clears up everyone will go back to work and there won’t be time for mini raves anymore.

Ok more loan nitty gritty. I did the exit counseling and requested REPAYE. I consolidated and requested REPAYE. Do I also need to fill out an IDR form at this time? Or wait for my servicer to tell me to do that? Or is requesting REPAYE on those forms enough?

I feel like this is too early for this.. but...

When do i schedule step 3 and how do i study for it while being an intern?
Our program said they’ll Discuss that at orientation. Also they said most people feel comfortable taking it after 2-3 months on the wards and a little bit of uworld. I’m thinking like January or February would be good but idk.
Also I have no idea how far in advance you have to schedule. That’s a good question. Wonder if covid delays will be an issue too.

Anyone else feel like they don’t remember anything medical. Like I’m not confident enough to prescribe Tylenol right now.

Even when I was on my sub-I I felt like every decision was life and death and then my resident would be like "oh yeah that's fine."

COVID is always an issue.

Im sort of glad im starting on a consult service... which means those specialists won’t care what I think lol

But being on call... that is what scares me

My last "real" rotation was in October/November 2019". I think even premeds know more medicine than me at this point. I'm self-cringing already.

Edit: Wait, no this is a lie. I had a surgery rotation in January. Sorry Fam, my memory isn't as sharp anymore....
