Exactly. This is what I'm living through now. This is an interesting thought. Currently, where I’m rotating we are not allowed to leave the county without incurring a quarantine, which effectively means we can’t leave the county without having to repeat the rotation. Being vaccinated doesn’t change that.

It’s San Diego. There’s Mexican food everywhere.

Not allowed to go to TJ though.

This is against the updated CDC guidelines on quarantining for vaccinated people. So either your hospital is acting in an unscientific way, or the CDC is. Both of which would be worrisome conclusions. This is an interesting thought. Pretty disappointing to still see this mess and widespread inconsistency in response even well over a year into the pandemic

I expect the hospital policy to change soon. They have been on top of the CDC guidelines thus far. But it’s the military and it takes a little longer for things to get routed up.

lol. Fortunately San Diego county is huge.

This is not helping my anxiety.
I'm already spending most of my time wondering on a scale of 1 to not matched. Where did I land?
Please like this if you're not even close to being doing with your rank list (I've only finalized my #1 which I had to, to send an LOI to) and I'm slowly starting to freak out lol

i keep flip flopping too on programs 5-10 lol -___- i need to control myselfMy 1-3 are locked. But my 4-10 are constantly changing so I feel you.
Do I go better location with high workload or do I go 3.5 hrs away from home with medium workload?
this is for like #5-7 so not HUGE but it’s the last question mark

My exact conundrum. I'm leaning toward better location, cuz generally speaking workload isn't amazing in any residency, whereas living in a less desirable place will have very real consequences as you become more senior and have more time to enjoy said location.Do I go better location with high workload or do I go 3.5 hrs away from home with medium workload?

I've got a really sweet community program that I'm considering for #3 but I keep wondering if I should move it to #4 or even lower because I have it above some solid university programs.
The mature answer to this question is to ignore it and just hope I match 1 or 2 lol.

My 1 and 2 change daily each time my SO and I talk about it. It's driving me nuts. Bout to flip a coin I swear to godMy 1-3 are locked. But my 4-10 are constantly changing so I feel you.
Also I'm probably missing the window to send a LOI since everyone is finalizing ranklists.
Ufff maybe Austin?Jacksonville vs San Antonio for a single liberal dude, which one is best? lol

Lets keep it going - Indianapolis vs. Cleveland for a married dude (no kids yet but will have one during residency), which one is best
This is torture.
Indianapolis is cheaper, but then you have to live in Indianapolis.Lets keep it going - Indianapolis vs. Cleveland for a married dude (no kids yet but will have one during residency), which one is best

2-6 are in total flux for me right now. Is 3 vs. 4 weeks vacation something to dock programs for (because everyone acts like whatever they have is standard)? Is 2 years of q4 24-hr call a dealbreaker? At the beginning of interview season I kinda rolled my eyes at programs that seemed to be selling "lifestyle", but I also want to minimize the misery...help!
I think all of this depends on the specialty.2-6 are in total flux for me right now. Yup. At this point, quality of life is important to me: Location, vacation weeks, and EMR.All else equal I'd rather have 4 weeks vacation than 3 haha. I knocked a program down a bit for that actually.

Lets keep it going - Indianapolis vs. Cleveland for a married dude (no kids yet but will have one during residency), which one is best
I know both cities well. Cleveland>Indy, here's why. Cleveland gets a bad reputation, in part because it's rust-belt, in part because the pro sports teams have historically sucked, and that's how outsiders think of CLE. But it's a much more established, livable city.
First, let's consider size. A simple google search tells you that Cleveland's population is 385k, compared to Indianapolis's 865k. But the metro areas are nearly identical: Indy is #34 at 2,048,449, Cleveland is #33 at 2,074,537. Add Akron-Canton to that picture (which you should), and you're looking at a metro of over 3 million, 1 million larger than Indy.
As another poster said, your dollar goes further in Indy, but that's like comparing McDonald's to Popeyes--either way it's not like you're spending a ton of dough. CoL is still low in Cleveland. Cleveland is east-coast city meets rust-belt. It's composition of small, trendy neighborhoods, world-class museums, and above-average public transportation (only city to have heavy-rail subway in the Midwest outside of Chicago, and one of 11 in the entire U.S.) gives it the feel and make-up of a Philadelphia or Baltimore, rather than a Columbus or Kansas City (two cities that I'd say Indianapolis reminds me of).
It's also a health care-driven city: you have two of the U.S.'s best medical schools and health systems between Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals/Case Western Reserve University. IU is fine, but it ain't CCF or Case.
Cleveland has beaches. You might laugh at this because it's just Lake Erie, but in the summer you won't be complaining. Cleveland is also home to a national park with great hiking. Indiana has a national park, but it's hours north of Indy.
Airports: Cleveland's airport has the benefit of being a former Continental and United hub, so that means it's slightly larger, has more fights (54 destinations with 174 average daily departures vs. 50 destinations), and is better connected to Downtown via the subway.
Subjectively, I also think Cleveland has better nightlife (4th and 6th Streets Downtown, Ohio City, Tremont, Edgewater, Cleveland Heights, The Flats), versus Indy (Broad Ripple, Downtown, Mass Ave.), but I'm sure people will argue with me on this.
I'd say that the biggest perks of Indianapolis vs Cleveland are 1) it's warmer, albeit not by that much, but it does get significantly less snow (Cleveland has lake-effect) 2) it's closer to Chicago, 3) nicer people. Cleveland natives are gritty, not unlike Philly.
Bro not sure what specialty you're in but for FM, yes 100% deal breakerIs 2 years of q4 24-hr call a dealbreaker?

Cleveland get a bad reputation bc it’s one of the ****tiest cities in America. Dirty, violent, always cloudy, tons of snow, need I go on? Interviewed rads at CCF and wouldn’t touch it with a ten foot pole bc it’s all fellow driven. Not even ranking it.
Not ranking IU very high either but it def has a better rep than case and overall better training than CCF for rads. Your assessment of these places is.....poor
I mean, the guy compared CLE and IND head to head based on living there. Not at all related to the specific rads programs. As someone from the Mid west, If you're looking at strictly living situations, I'd take Cle over Ind any day of the week. But obviously, as you mention, when you add in the details of specific programs that calculus can change.Cleveland get a bad reputation bc it’s one of the ****tiest cities in America. Would just like to state again how useless these dead weeks are. This is time we could be using to find homes or idk not stress eating for an extra month plus 🥴
Is there any real reason that there is a month delay?Would just like to state again how useless these dead weeks are. This is time we could be using to find homes or idk not stress eating for an extra month plus 🥴

Yeah straight up my life is on hold for no good reason right now.
The problem is programs interviewing into early/mid february.
Some of us need every single available day to figure our ranklist out...

A month of torture. Yet if anyone don’t match, they literally find out on Monday at 11pm, have 3-4 hrs to make life changing decision and 4 rounds of soap from Monday-Thursday. I feel like we are in a profession where we have enough smart and highly educated people to put their brains together and come up w a better process...but wait, instead, they spend more time on making profits from poor med students.
I hope we all match because soap is hell.
Some of us need every single available day to figure our ranklist out...
A couple progs still interviewing too. I know one that has their last interview scheduled next week Tuesday.
I had one last week myself. It's the one that might bump my planned #1. Really wish I had more than a week to decide whether to send them an LOI but here we are.A couple progs still interviewing too. I know one that has their last interview scheduled next week Tuesday.
