Hey guys,

So my school is in its accreditation year. I wanted to know if contacting COCA about a issue that came up can affect our accreditation. They recently just made some pretty big changes to our syllabus/ grading/ test schedule that puts all of us in a bad position. They moved our final up by 3 weeks and divided it into two parts. The final is now in a week with 2 other practicals, a mock comlex and a bunch of other things. They informed us Friday at 5:30 so that no one could say anything to them and so that our questions for our "town hall" school meeting had to already be submitted so they dont have to answer any questions on the matter.

There's no point to doing this. Yes, it may add more stress in you life as a student, but they can't fail all of you. Change in the curriculum isn't going to affect accreditation, but failing a big chunk of the student body aka attrition will do that.

Check out the list of things COCA gets paid for by various DO schools and come to your own conclusion about whether COCA is likely to do anything.

Thanks guys, I didn't figure it would make a difference, I am just super frustrated. The week before Thanksgiving was set to be virtual so we had a lot of students already purchase plane tickets home. They also didn't make any changes to our OMS1s schedule so they are just taking their last tests virtual whereas our entire schedule got thrown to the wind and everything changed. And in previous meetings with faculty, they have told us to "Just Roll with it" and to "File complaints *motions towards admins ass*" oh and also "If we don't like it, we can leave" so our opinion doesn't mean crap.

Also they failed about 15% of our class last year so COCA doesn't seem to care too much.

What penal colony is this???

Damnnnn, I'm very detached as a 3rd year from the main campus, but I'd be very surprised if OP is talking about ARCOM because that sounds very different from my class. My class still has 92% of the starting class of 2022, so it's crazy that they would fail 15% of OP's class.

Yes, OP is talking about ARCOM. We have a town hall tomorrow that is going to be brutal. Students are pissed and generally fed up with the administration this year.

15% was probably stretching it, but I can easily name 17 students that started with us that are no longer with us in a class of 150 (+13 repeats from the year above is what we started with)

OK, on to the Bad Boy list they go.
I wouldn't be so quick to say this. I have no dog in this fight though, so I'm not here to argue the credibility of my OMS2 colleagues' statements, but first of all, no one cares if you show up for class or not at ARCOM. Yes, they state that lectures are mandatory if you are below 80% average in a class, but no one cares unless you actually fail the class, then it might be an issue that comes up during the SPC meeting. Additionally, They did apply social distancing in the lecture halls with masks on for the lectures that were still on campus meaning some lectures did move to virtual. I just checked the class of 2023's roster and there's still 156 students in that class, so unless they started with 183 students, no way they are failing 15% of the class. Yes, ARCOM has its issues, I'm not going to deny that, but in the town hall today, admin did explain why they are doing what they are doing with some convincing arguments, and they understand not everybody will be happy with it, but they have no choice with COVID cases increasing. They have now moved everything to virtual. On a positive note, COMLEX pass rate is up this year from 86% last year to 96% so far for my class with 109/149 scores back already.

What’s your starting class size and how many did they repeat last year?

162 was my starting class size (including like 6 repeats from the class above). Last year was about 6 or 7 I think that stayed behind.

Universities in general are moving up finals and ending the semester early due to COVID. This, most likely, is why your school made the decision to move up finals on short notice. It sucks of course, but if you contacted COCA, COVID will be your schools defense. Reality is, due to COVID, nothing is going the way it "normally" would.

So there are 149 students left in your class. Why have 40 still not taken the COMLEX?
Because some people still haven't taken their exam or their scores from the last few weeks/days haven't come out yet. This year, my school isn't the only school that still have students that are still working on their comlex right now.

Definitely. With everything getting bumped/cancelled over the summer, I know a ton of people with December level 1 dates at my school.
