I was complete at Columbia two weeks ago and am anxiously waiting for some kind of correspondence. I was under the impression that most succesful applicants received interview invitation emails on Mondays about two weeks after their files' were complete. Is it a bad sign if this hasn't happened for me?

Arghhh, I hate this tumultuous admissions process... 🙁

TF

I am with you. I have been complete for three weeks now and anxiously waiting for a word.

Proph...

i received my invite less than two weeks after my august mcats got there, if that is any help.

My interview invite was dated less than 3 weeks after the August MCAT scores were released.

Hmm ok thanks guys for the input. Did you get those emails on mondays? or was it just some random day of the week?

TF

it was regular mail, at it came on a monday (I think), maybe a tuesday. good luck

Alrighty then, so the interview invites aren't necessarily emails then I guess. Thanks again for the input.

TF

I seem to follow your pattern of getting an E-Mail invite by E-Mail on a monday 2 weeks after having a complete application. Whether it's a bad sign if you haven't gotten that, probably not. They're probably swamped with applications right now. I got my interview offer back in the first week of september when things were probably moving a lot faster. I got an E-Mail invite which said that I'd also be getting a snail mail invite, which came a few days later. Don't get so caught up on what day of your invite might come.

hi
i never got an e-mail, but did get a snail mail invited dated about a month after i was complete (late aug complete). hope this helps!

Don't worry about when you get your Columbia interview. Non-rolling admissions and all.

over 3 weeks since file complete, no word.... i would be majorly upset with this one if I don't get an interview.... 🙁 being my first choice and all...

🙂 well that makes me feel a bit better. Thanks for the help everyone.

TF,

I was complete on November 12, and I got an interview invite today in the mail (it was dated November 18). I'm pretty psyched! 🙂

you got a mail that quickly after completion???? if you don't mind me asking... what is your gpa and mcat score? were you highly qualified? is that why you got it so quickly?

Markus,

Well, i wouldn't say it was stats that sped up the process. I am presuming that the email I got saying I was complete was probably dated later than my file actually got to the committee. My gpa and Mcat aren't that high to warrant such expeditious treatment by this prestigious of a medical school! 🙂

Thanks for the info ice! I was complete on Nov. 5th, but no mail for me yet... let's see what happens tomorrow...

Last year I got an interview invite 2 days after my file was complete. I'm under the impression the admissions office is evaluating apps in some way before completion.

I agree. I don't know about Columbia, but I got an interview invite from UConn a day before I got my "completion" notice.

It seems to vary ... I got the 'file is complete" email Sept 12th, Interview email was dated Oct 1st

I have a feeling this is slow part of the process so I wouldn't worry too much.

If you feel really genuinely strong about going to Columbia, I would write a letter or even ask to speak with Dr Frantz.

It's been over a month for me since I've been complete at Columbia. However, I don't feel genuinely strong about going to Columbia enough to write a letter of interest, especially since what I've read about Dr. Frantz. He sounds like a rugby loving, cryptic crackpot who likes to play God with the applicants.

Hey Kash, I'm going on 4 weeks. I know the Thanksgiving holiday week doesn't really count for much, but still... You get any news yet? It's strange how some applicants hear literally within hours of being complete and some have to wait over a month (if they haven't already been rejected of course).

Nothing yet TF and it's been about 4.5 weeks for me.

Do you play Rugby?
Are you by any chance related to Chopin or can play Chopin in a B flat minor?

No for me on both accounts. Maybe that's why I haven't gotten an invite yet =).

Yeah, I'm no rugby god or piano virtuoso. Hehe, hopefully that won't be grounds for rejection. *shrug* If that's what they're truly looking for, then it's their loss.

TF and Kash,

I'm glad I found some people in the same boat... I've been complete on 10/27 so it's been just a little more than 5 weeks now. Not a word...............................................................

It will be interesting to see which one of us gets the answer first since I'm assuming it will be around the same time... please post if you hear back from Columbia.

Complete on 10/30

No word yet too. I'll post when I hear something. It'll be interesting to see if they really go through complete applications as they first arrive.

I'll keep ya'all updated.

Damn, I forgot to write on my app: Can make fart sounds with my armpit.

Chopin in B Fart Major anyone?

Um, I'll pass, thanks 😀

yep, I'm over a month complete and no word either. Since they're non-rolling I think it doesn't make a difference.

Yeah, I think they start making decisions in Feb and again in March, so if you've interviewed by late Jan, I don't think it'll make much difference at all. I'm assuming the majority of the lag time is due to the fact that we all applied relatively late. I know some people at my undergrad with not so great stats/EC's that applied way back in the summer and got early interviews. Ah well, that's the penalty for getting our stuff in late I guess. 😳

As for bodily noises, I could do my abc's in burps way back in 3rd grade. Right, it's a real talent, I know. 😀

TF

Hey guys,

I just got my interview invite via snail mail over the weekend, w00t! It was for a January date. So for all those that applied late (i.e. kissing the deadline like yours truly 😉 ), keep the faith!

Best of luck,

TF

Hey man - congrats. Sounds like you were really hoping to get the invite. I just had my interview and I really liked the feel of the place. You'll get a good idea of what kind of students go there and how they like it because they come into the waiting room constantly and volunteer to chat. It might help to get there like a half hour early at least so you can talk to some of them and maybe see a class. The day is pretty short so you don't really have much time to do that. Let me know if you have any questions about it.

Good luck.

i had an interview on 8/25 with frantz one week after my file was complete

Thanks man. Do you know if they've got a decent student hosting program? I hear horror stories about Bard, but I figure I should at least spend some time there to see if all the rumors are true. I'm def going to be trying to check out the classes/facilites too. Columbia's one of my top choices, but I really like the other NYC schools as well, so hopefully the interview will give me a chance to see what truly differentiates them all.

TF

Congrats Flash!

Bard isn't that bad. It's not exactly nice....but not as bad as people make it out to be. Def check it out though, and try to stay there if you can. It's a 3 minute walk from the school!

yo - i actually don't know much about their student-hosts. i'm just stayed at home (long island) and then took the train into NYC for the day. i'd imagine that the hosts are good though. everyone there is really candid about the school, so i think you'll get a good idea of what it's like. i thought the students were really awesome - i think i'd definitely fit in. meeting them pushed the school up to my no.1 choice for sure. if you want to look around - classes/etc - you kind of have to take your own initiative cause they seem kind of minimalist on the whole tour, intro thing. but, i'd say it might not be too difficult to find out from the students when you can do all that. i'll bet some of them might even be willing to take you around. as for bard, i agree with chapinsita - i thought it was ok. a little old - not decrepit or anything though. don't believe the 'horror stories' you've heard about it. oh, if you talk to students there, ask them what they do for their clerkships - i heard a bunch of real interesting ones. the clinical experience sounds real good.

congratulations man~

finally someone who applied late like me got an interview... I thought I had finally broken the streak of rejections I've been getting yesterday by a Canadian school named McMaster because my roommate claimed he saw the phrase "Interview Date" through the envelope, but I opened up to find out.....

"Interview Date

In the event I am selected for an interview, I cannot attend on:

Sun March 28 Sat Apr 3 "

🙁

congratulations. I hope the interview goes well.

Thanks for the advice medstylee and chapinsita. Hopefully, there's more good news on the way for the others waiting on this thread as well. They'd be fools not to interview markus, Kashue, or darkcity. I've got no musical/rugby experience, so you don't have to be able to play "Chopin in B Fart major" to get considered. 🙂

Good seeing you Rendar, how's the interview trail been going since we met at Pitt? From the looks of it, you're tearing it up. Congrats! 😎

TF

I'm wondering if anyone else who's file was complete in Late Oct got interviews to Columbia yet...

my app was complete when the August MCATs came in (around Oct. 15 or 16) and I got an invite dated Oct.27???? (for a Dec. 3 interview). Good luck! Columbia was great--by far my first choice after my itnerview visit.
