I am just curious, since Columbia specifically requires us to send three letters from SCIENCE PROFS WHO TAUGHT YOU, how do they know that those profs are from your classes?
How would they check? Do we need to turn in a seperate form that lists the names(or course number) of the classes with profs' names that we got letters from?

For an example, at my university where research experience is pretty easy to get, you can just volunteer to research at a prof's lab who TEACHES at school, but not necessarily who TAUGHT you.

How would columbia distinguish that? I am curious.
I am getting a letter from my PI, who teaches bio classes, but I did not take his class. Rather, I did my research through a class that gives you credits as a science elective course.

Does anyone know..?

The professor will write that what class you took with him/her, how you did in that class, etc
If you get the letter from the PI, he/she will write that you work for their lab (and not take the class)
I'd just ask another professor, and keep the research letter as supplement
I wouldn't risk lacking one letter and not getting interview

So Columbia recognizes that the letter is from a science prof by reading the letters? Hmm..I read a post that taking a "research class (giving out credits and grade p/f)" might satisfy the science letter requirement, since it was a "class". I guess I just need to call Columbia and make sure...
Thanks for the reply.

oh if you call, let me know what they say. i've been wondering the same stuff
