** Sorry if this has already been posted. Only found one post on it and it was not helpful **

Simple Question: Will common names be used / be expected on the Ochem section of the DAT? Im fine with IUPAC but hate common names with a passion. Like, will at any point they give us a common name and ask us to pick what molecule it is, or ask us which is the correct name for a structure and the choices be written in common name? Or will it all be IUPAC? Thank you for your help in advance!

You should indeed know a few common names especially for benzene derivatives like anilines, anisoles, xylenes, cresols phenols,....as well as simple ethers like THF.....solvents like DMSO.....and acetone. IUPAC is always best, but common names are ubiquitous in the realm of organic chemistry. Anything is fair game.

Hope this helps....Dr. Jim Romano.
