You also have to consider that neuroscience is higher level biology that is not offered at CC. All colleges and CCs range in difficulty, hence why we have the DAT to level the playing field.

I am a CC student who just transferred to a state university and I must say that everyone that said CC was easier is damn right. I used to argue a lot about this and as you can see in my previous post but damn.

Had a 4.0 at CC through 66 credits with all the prereqs done.

Just took my first test in neuroscience and got a 73 (C). But the class average was a 67 (D).
hope there is some kind of curve.

🙁🙁

Why don't you just save yourself the time and just put that in your signature instead of repeating it in every post.

Bragging about a 4.0 from a CC is like bragging about a student of the month award from second grade.

Shhh, don't tell! Maybe the word won't get out to adcoms that your CC 4.0 should be disregarded!

I'm still upset though guys....

Should I switch to pharmacy? sigh...

You want to switch from dentistry to pharmacy because of one test grade? And a grade that was higher than the class avg?

I'm sure getting a C after a 4.0 is a huge blow but it seems ridiculous to give up because of ONE TEST GRADE. Finish up the semester and see what your GPA comes out to and then you can worry if you're not satisfied. Until then, keep your chin up and work hard.

You seem kind of unstable...your last post was about not making more than 5 friends at your new school and this post has you throwing around your future plans based on 1 test. I wouldn't expect this forum to fix your problems, sounds like something that's up to you.

You really need to stop being a whiney little girl and suck it up. Jeez, I've seen 12 year old girls who are more decisive than you are.

I dunno who told you that pharmacy is any easier than dentistry.

someone might have told him they just count pills

Edit:
Whoops! How in the world did I end up in the pre-dental area...

Now might be an appropriate time to start taking about the DDS/PharmD dual degree program I am working on

That sounds interesting. How is that coming along?

yeah I realize that too but he needs to know that when he posts something like that, he will get comments like mine.

nuttin' but mutton bustin' and tough love here on the d-school forums...

:slap:

Or you could not say anything at all if you don't have anything nice or helpful to say.

My CC was about equal with my state university. 60's are usuelly class average. Sounds like you need to adapt.

Same experience here, actually my GPA is .1-.2 higher at my university.

My goal is to stay about 15-20% ahead of the average.... that has usually meant i am safe for an A.

Also SN1... you need to grow a pair. Take the challenges that come and rise up and defeat them. Don't go running away at the first sign of difficulty. Adapt and overcome - make new friends and become a better student. And if you can get laid.... do that too.

Stay mentally strong man. Life is full of obstacles and people who are going to try and discourage you. Don't expect strangers to pick you up when you're feeling vulnerable.

WOW I just found out that one of my friend actually got an 80 and his friend got a 92.5.

Does this mean there will be no curve even if the class average is a 68? There are like 200+ kids in the class

sigh.....

Well, while you might have not done so well on this test, at least know you know that it's possible to do well on the exams. Why not start asking your friend to explain some of the problems, and ask if he'd be interested in studying together for the next exam.

Although transitioning from CC to a state university is difficult, you got to stay positive and not give up just because of a single test grade. After all, complaining may be easier, but at the end of the day, it's your effort and ultimately your grade that counts

which university is it?

at my school science class avgs are typically kept around 65-70.

rarely do they actually curve you, they just try to adjust the marks by making subsequent tests easier or harder.

but this avg would not be considered atypical.

PS: were those friends part of your 5? 😛

Its Rutgers University in New Brunswick.

In the first meeting of class my teacher said she only curves depending on the class average.

She sent an email today saying that this exam was a little harder than last semester's exam because the average is lower. She also said she might curve depending on the average of the next two tests.

don't count on a handout or a curve. The only thing you have control over is how much you study and how much you know the material. When/if you get to dental school, the exams will be that much harder and you need to get used to pushing yourself. Nothing wrong with talking to the prof to see what areas you could concentrate on to get better. In fact, profs usually like to see students asking for help.

she seems like one of the nicer profs lol

but if she doesn't come through w/ the curve, just vta the **** out of your n.accumbens and study your ass off man

👍 School gets harder, so you need to work smarter...

i love CC courses. I'm taking an online sociology course before I matriculate into UM and it's so easy lol. Tough cookies on your bad test score though. Study harder, bug the professor, and figure out why you don't understand the material. It doesn't get any easier at the university level.

Lol this is depressing for people that go to a CC like me. Not, I'm not even going to worry about the transition anymore. I'll just grow a bigger pair and study my butt off.

I have never experienced CC, however, undergrad science classes have always been challenging. In my developmental bio class the avg. on the first exam was a 67, no curve. 👎 Just avoid procrastination as much as possible and you'll do well.

true if you study you can raise your grades!

i did so average in all the tough science classes and got in to dental school. i would be happy if i beat the average.

Community college is not a joke. I am a non trad and I got my start in cc. I was able to competitively earn a bachelors, masters and PhD and also received an acceptance to dental school. Appreciate your education no matter where you received it. This way you appreciate what you have earned.

UPDATE!!

I got an A on the second test  (class average was a B)

Now my grade is a B+ overall. Final exam is in a month and I hope to ace it!

Community College isn't a joke at all. They literally contain some of the toughest undergrad professors you can take. Since you're that kid that probably took the easiest professors he could find due to word of mouth, you're mad that you can't do that anymore and are now pulling Cs. Not our fault.

Community college classes certainly aren't a joke. I withdrew from attending a private university at the very last minute and I couldn't be happier. The cheap tuition at a CC was enough motivation for me to attend. Most, if not all of my instructors have a PhD in their respective field. If you have high grades from a CC, and then continue to receive high grades at a four-year school, I don't see the problem.
