No offense, but that is sad. I think think that one should at least have to hit or exceed the 50th percentile to be seriously considered. You have a 3.9 college GPA, I'm sure you could have pulled a 25+ with EASE. Just my $0.02. Oh well, congrats on the acceptances!

No offense, but I believe that a physician is measured by FAR more then a simple score. A 23, a 22 or a 45, who really cares? I, and I know ryan483 personally, have killed ourselves for most of our lives to understand and take care of people. Maybe we aren't good at taking stand. tests but, does that mean we will not make effective physicians? I think not and I think the medicial schools we have interviewed at do not either. Clearly, I believe that your view on the world, and on the world that medicine serves, is flawed. Take time away from worrying about everyone elses MCAT score and go help someone. I think it is sad that people like you, with that attitude, are allowed to even interview. But, as you said, that's just my "$0.02".

Thanks for an intelligent/mature/meaningful reply Duchess. From my experience, GPA and MCATS do matter a hell of alot. A good GPA may slightly outweight a lower MCAT score, and vice versa. In addition, certain schools have lower GPA and MCAT requirements than others. It seems, however, that people so obsessed with the stats fail to grasp the whole picture...that being what do you bring to the table? One needs to have meaningful life experiences (both medically and non-medically related) to be a solid DO candidate. Also, you have to be a decent person. If not, the DO interview committees will see through you in the first 30 seconds of the interview. Just wait until the PhD sitting at the table confronts you about something on your application. What do you do then? No GPA or MCAT score can help you through that one. It's all up to you as a person. It's your passion to become a physician. If you go with your passion and thus your heart, your GPA, MCATS, and all other aspects will follow through as well.

I believe the average MCAT for the MS 1s was ~28. It's been going up about .5 a year for the last four years. Just my opinion, but TCOM since I was accepted back in the Stone Age has gotten more and more allopathic in their thinking when it comes to admissions. That probably has to do with them recently extricating themselves from the national DO admissions process and going with the entirely allopathic TMDSAS in-state admissions process. Now everyone that would have never applied to a DO school just has to check one more box next to UT-Southwestern, Texas Tech, Texas A&M etc. on a computer screen. Most do and end up interviewing, liking the school, enrolling, etc. If you are applying to TCOM, my advice is to view it almost as attempting to gain acceptance into an allopathic school, at least within the context of Texas.

amen!!!!!
