Yep, I'm counting ramblinwreckie as #16 on my unofficial count. 😀

I think this thread is going to put me over 100 posts...yay for small excitements in the midst of large disappointments.

TommyGunn, you seem to have a lot of information. If it's a general policy to call accepted students, is it ok for applicants to call and see if they're accepted?

I don't know for sure, but I imagine that calling would just tick off the admissions people (and they have the ability to put comments in your file, so that wouldn't be good). Plus, I bet they'd probably just reiterate the "official policy" from the website, that says something ridiculous about how they'll never call under any circumstances (which is obviously not true, as we're seeing here today). Sorry for all the anguish! Waiting sucks!!! 🙁

I live in NYC, so I will let you guys know if I receive any mail when i get home tonight.

Yeah, you're right, of course. *sigh* 🙁

I feel ya... I took strange satisfaction in flopping over to 500+ posts today. I'm way too hooked to these forums, especially with all of the Duke activity!

and congrats to the newest SDN Duke acceptees!

As of now you're at 484 (its on your public profile). Good luck 🙂

wow neat..i had no idea...prolly by the end of the week i'll tip over then..great! awesome week!~ 😀

Its pretty nifty. you can also find all your old posts etc. there.

By the way, congrats on the acceptance LRmed2003!

Congrats to new acceptees! Please, please do the rest of us nervous wrecks a favor and post whether you got a phone call or letter and, if the latter, where you are.

And to certain other posters: nix the stats obsession. There's no way the data from a dozen people will tell you anything significant about your chances. If you care, do an mdapps search. I think I'm proof that high stats don't guarantee admissions.

Got my fingers crossed for you...good luck.

hey in 4 years, that's nothing to be ashamed of. I got 4,000 posts in 8 months. **hangs head in shame***

you should be ashamed you came here so early in the process, or maybe that's what we all should have done since you got into Duke! 👍

What's sad is that I have almost 60 posts in this thread alone. Clearly I have far too much time on my hands...

So has anybody received a letter today anywhere?

Sadly... I'm not. I didn't have to count them, though. If, on the pre-allo page, you click on the number of replies next to a given thread, it will tell you who's posted and how many times they've posted.

they all know i'm on SDN..i keep tellin' them to get on but they just won't bend to peer pressure..we'll all be at 2nd look weekend though..

P.S. I have a feeling that a LOT of people were feeling DUKE a LOT this year and that not too many folks will be rescinding their acceptances..i.e. this new class may be significantly larger than the previous ones of 100-103 folks..

No letter yet here in NYC...

no letter in boston, but I got a phone call from a 3rd year about a half hour ago!! Add me to the list! I look forward to meeting you guys at second look! 😀 😀

Congrats, chlorineK! I was actually able to stop obsessing for about an hour, but now I keep picking up my phone, just to make sure it's working.

no call = no acceptance? it looks that way 🙁

Congrats to all who will be our new Dukies 🙂 And all the patience in the world to those who are waiting.

I talked to our school secretary yesterday and she told me that all the letters including acceptances/rejections/waitlists would be out this week. In other words, "no batches".

Also, if you would like any info on housing etc, you can send me a message over here--i am sure the other dudes that are already here at Duke would be happy to help out also.

Are they leaving voicemails?!??? Anyone know?

hmm, it feels like this thread has slowed down substantially. i can't decide whether that's because not as many people are getting the covetted phone calls or because we've all slipped into a waiting coma.

perhaps a combination of the two......

no call no letter no love in raleigh... just a hop skip and jump away.
i think the mailman forgot some mail in durham.

They are NOT leaving voicemails. I was at work this am when I got a missed call from a 919 area code and no message... then someone else (different #) called earlier this evening... this leads me to believe that this process is not 100% organized and that many people accepted will not get calls (just as some got >1 calls)

GOOD LUCK. I hope that phone starts buzzing.

this is definitely not fun..........

Whether no call = no love or not, it's definitely way too early to give up hope. Sounds to me like several people are getting phone calls today, as recently as this afternoon.

If you're really optimistic then this is great. I figure letters wouldn't make it out here to OKC until tomorrow at best. But instead of just impatiently waiting for tomorrow to come, I can impatiently wait for the phone to ring. By the time I give up hope on that, tomorrow will be here and the cycle begins again. It's wonderful!!!

I received a call today from a med student around 3, but i have yet to receive anything in the mail (I'm in Connecticut). Good luck to everyone!

I don't think the process is being carefully coordinated, so I wouldn't lose all hope if you haven't received a call. After receiving my call last night, I got a retraction email of sorts this morning from the person who called me saying that he was wrong and didn't really know whether I was in the MSTP or not and shouldn't have presumed that based on an MD acceptance as the MSTP apparently sends out its own letters. I know that doesn't necessarily mean anything to straight MD applicants, but it does suggest that the people making these calls are probably making other mistakes as they go through.

P.S. I have a feeling that a LOT of people were feeling DUKE a LOT this year and that not too many folks will be rescinding their acceptances..i.e. this new class may be significantly larger than the previous ones of 100-103 folks..

Hey, I am a current first year Duke student and I heard from a very reliable source earlier this week that they sent out fewer initial offers of acceptance this year compared to last year (if i recall it was a difference of 50, which for a class size of 100 is significant). So there may really be a feeling among the Ad com that more people will accept the offers this year. Still, anyone on the waitlist, do not distress. The Duke waitlist moved a lot last year. I know many people in my class who came off the waitlist, including myself. If you really want Duke, let them know, just don't go overboard.

P.S. Congrats to everyone who got accepted, Duke Med is an amazing place.

I got another phone call from a Duke University number tonight... I called them back after finally getting through and confirmed that it in fact was... The Annual Fund!!! AAGGGGHHH!!!!!!!!!!!1

Dammit, that's just mean. why do they have to do the fundraising the same days that they are calling people to inform about acceptances?

So I've had my two phone calls, and neither was Duke Med.

none for me...i dunno why they wouldnt be more organized and call everyone correctly...becasue now even if i do get in ill still be poed i wasnt called

the1111gal said:
...i dunno why they wouldnt be more organized and call everyone correctly...

Here's why...200-250 phone calls need to be made over a very short period of time (in order to beat the letters). How do you coordinate that if you only have a couple of people working in the office? In order to make all those calls in only a couple of days, they've asked for student volunteers. But we're med students...we're pretty busy, and the number of phones available is limited. And someone needs to maintain a centralized list of who's been called and who hasn't...I imagine it's quite tough to coordinate. But the alternative is not calling at all!

I know this is frustrating, but don't take it out on admissions. I've been through this too, and even worse actually, since I had to wait until JULY to get my Duke acceptance. I know it sucks, but you really have no choice but to hang in there. Look on the bright side...at least it seems like they really ARE trying to call everyone this year. In the past I think only the minority students got called, by one of the student groups. This year it looks like the effort has been expanded.

i could handle it, by myself, i think...figure 2 mins per call if done right...and 200 people? how about just the acceptees which is like 150 or less, especially if theyre doing less this year like we've been told...i think 1 person could make a good amount of the calls and god knows more than that work in admissions...duke admissions was much nicer than some of the other schools all along though...soooooo i wouldnt care that i havent been called, if others hadnt either--it seems disorganized, and clearly is....w/e if they dont accept me they dont have to worry about whether ill take it out on them do they 😉

Actually, this is wrong...a number of my classmates are on the committee...it's definitely over 200. So with one person at 2-3 minutes per call we're talking MORE THAN one full 8-hour day, without any breaks. And as I said, they're trying to beat the envelopes, so clearly some other people needed to be involved. And the 2-3 minutes probably doesn't account for the many delays that occur as well...half the time someone won't answer, or someone other than the student answers, and then they have to be called back later, because regulations prevent info from being left in a message or with anyone other than the applicant. On top of this, the poor secretary is busy fielding calls from people inquiring about their status! Trust me, it's not as easy as it sounds, and that's why they need student volunteers to help out.

I'm not trying to be confrontational, but I disagree with your assertions, and I don't see what good it does to complain about these people who work their tails off to make this process go smoothly for applicants like you (including student VOLUNTEERS, like me).

i still think making the calls isnt rocket science 😉 hey, we're allowed to be on the edge in this time arent we

on the lighter side folks... the ecu/unc people have evolved a meetup poll floating around here. if any of y'all are in the triangle. vote and come chill and celebrate the light at the end of the tunnel. 👍
good luck folks. :luck:

yaya!!!!!

another student called me back about an hour ago and said I was accepted. this is so awesome!

i'll be there for 2nd look, since I had a regional interview and need to see Duke.

Congrats ramblin! From where do you hail?

so true! I definitely sympathize! 🙁 It won't be too long now though...sit tight!

The official figure is 221. I have an uber-informant, who let me in on this little info. Hey, TommyGunn, doesn't that mean the 100-membered class may actually be over 100 this year?

No word here in Caleefornia...

It seems that most the people (?) who have been accepted are on the East Coast.

Anyone here on the West Coast receive any news yet?
