FWIW, My good friend got the call at about 6:30pm EST (I didn't apply) Best of luck to everyone who hasn't heard back yet (they don't usually call all the admitted students!!)
 
...said my phone at 6:15 pm ET. and it wasn't a joke..it was a current duke student letting la princesse know that yes, she has been accepted!!!! yeah boy!!!! i am on cloud 9 9 9 9 9 9 9 9 9 9 9!!!! ummm, so april 1-3 will find me in durham baby....yessir..i think this may be it for me..

congrats! And thanks for letting the rest of us know... Those who talked to Duke tonight, do you think they were calling a lot of people?
 
Can anybody help me understand why the Duke website claims, "To insure your privacy and the integrity of the admission process, no decisions will be discussed via telephone or transmitted via e-mail at any time or under any circumstance," if all these people are getting calls??!!

I mean it actually says "at any time or under any circumstance"!!!! What up?
 
I know it's tough not knowing and waiting and it is even harder when others are getting phone calls and getting their snail mail (cough cough Durham folks) BUT HAVE NO FEAR!!!!
They are NOT calling everyone and the people that were called (from what I have heard) is NOT the majority of the class!
I really have not heard a good reason why some are getting calls and not others.....but there does not seem to be any rhyme or reason....it may be as simple as some rogue interviewers feeling like you shouldn't have to wait another day to find out (no facts on this one...just a theory)...
BUT, hang in there!!! Hopefully you will ALL get good news any day now!
as far as whether they are sending them out in batches...I have also not heard they are doing this (or at least with the acceptances) I can't say whether ALL of the letters (including waitlists and... the other which shall remain nameless) were included in this batch....
I guess you will find out when the first person gets a thin envelope and that brave soul is the first to admit on SDN that Duke was foolish and made a big mistake (which they obviously do every now and then!)

In the meantime, I'd like to thank everyone for the warm wishes and to congratulate those who were just as fortunate. In doing so, I'd like to wish well to those still waiting. Duke really is an excellent school, and I am entirely humbled by their decision to accept me.

Congratulations, you guys!! I'm trying to be completely happy for you, really I am, but I have to admit, I'm totally jealous!

Did anybody who received a phone call have a regional interview? Just wondering if the regional interviewers know whether we got in or not. I thought I hit it off with mine, so hopefully she'll call with some good news..........'til then it's just painful waiting.
 
ACK! I know I posted just a few minutes ago, but I can't take it anymore....I need to know! Please USPS have mercy on me and deliver the letter tomorrow. 😱

My friend who got a phone call about his acceptance was called by the SNMA (the minority medical student group), so perhaps they are only calling the minority acceptees? Just a theory...
 
I just got a phone call too at around 7:30 Central. I actually applied MSTP, and he thought that's what I was accepted as when he checked something on a computer, but he was calling for the School of Medicine in general, I guess. I want to see some paper, but this works in the meantime!

I don't know whether it was my student interviewer or not. I can't remember or find the guy's name, but he didn't mention ever having met me.

Dopaminophile, I really feel like you're a kindred spirit in this whole waiting game. I hope you get wonderful news in the next 24 hours and you can spend the rest of the week basking in the warm glow of acceptance. :luck:



EDIT: Ok, I have officially reached a new low. My contact information is all for my parents' house, so I called home again, for the fourth time today and the second time in the past two hours, to see if my mother had received any news. I think she's pretty sick of me at this point....I'm really pushing the boundaries of unconditional love. I think I'm going to take a hot bath, away from the phone and the computer and hopefully I can stop obsessing for tonight.
 
Man this is stressful...life would be better with a phonecall!
 
Got my call tonight! I was watching Scrubs tonight when my phone rang, and my first thought was "WHO is calling me during Scrubs and WHY?!" but then I looked at the area code and changed my tune. 🙂

I just got the phone call about 20 minutes ago - I am absolutely shaking with excitement!! And the girl who called wasn't my student interviewer, and I'm not a minority so I don't know how they're doing it.

Congratulations! As you know Duke is an excellent school. I probably sound like a broken record, but it really is. I am so super excited as I am sure you are!

I feel your pain SRQGirl! We'll get through the next few days for better or worse... I feel a second look weekend in Durham is in our future though!

Future Dr. Laroche... are you in Durham? You hit the timing of all this right on the head. You planning on becoming a Blue Devil (or continuing as such) with your brilliant parchment of acceptees?
 
I got my phone call too about 10 minutes ago. For those of you that are wondering, I'm really far from Durham. Good luck to you all -- if you don't get a call soon (I don't know if they're calling everyone), your acceptance letter may be in the mail.

seeing as how so many on sdn got their acceptance calls already, i cant help but think that this doesnt bode well for the rest of us waiting to here good news. i mean, could so many acceptances be coincidentally going out to sdners??? congrats to all of you that have gained acceptance, duke is a wonderful school. hopefully im wrong about this....

well read dukedoc's post on pg 12... he's a student there so that lends some credibility to what he says. I'm not going to give up hope until I have a reject in my hand.

those of you who've gotten in & had phone calls... did you do regional or on-campus interviews?

I was wondering the same thing, so was one other person. I did a regional interview and haven't heard anything. My guess is that I'll get something in the mail today good or bad, depending on whether they sent all letters Monday.

😳 hang in there folks...i'm putting all my positive wishing and hoping thoughts toward all ya'll in this... 😳
 
I have been told by the admissions office that, as of today, duke is still processing the decision letters (implying, of course, that they have not all been sent last Monday). Unfortunately I think this must mean that acceptances are mailed out first, followed by waitlists/rejects. Good luck.
 
how big is the duke class?
 
I got back late last night and saw all the posts about phone calls, and then freaked when my caller ID reported a phone call from a Duke University number at 8:30pm.

I then thought a minute, realized it was probably the Annual Fund hitting me up for an alumni donation, which I can't afford, and calmed back down.

Still, for those who were called, do you know if you were called from Duke, or from a private (home) number?

Oh man! That's just painful.

Anyone have any idea if they might continue calling today? I'm anxiously awaiting the mail to come in the next hour or two.
 
I got a call last night! By an act of God I'm in!

They called my private number, the one listed on the duke webiste (my cell phone). It was a 919-451XXXX number. I think it was a student who called me, I could barely hear since I was in a gym. It was nobody I knew, not my interviewer or anything. I still won't believe it till I get the packet in the mail...but wow. Keep your head up, your big letters will be coming soon!
 
also congrats iunci. damn, every phone call and acceptance that gets reported just makes me more and more confident that i wont be getting in. seems like they must have notified alot of people if so many on SDN alone have been phoned. i havent been keeping tally of how many have been called on SDN, but it has to be like 10 or so now right...man this sucks for us still waiting. 🙁

yep, i've given up....from SDN alone, they seem to have filled a decent proportion of their class and I have to assume that the duke accepts at least a few students who aren't neurotic enought to live on here like the rest of us 🙄 *sigh* i've lost all hope.....i'm going to go wallow in self-pity for about half an hour......
 
i also will join you in self-pity. sorry to be so negative, but i just find it hard to believe that such a large percentage of acceptances would go out to us on this forum. im even torn about whether i want to be waitlisted...i just want some finality to this whole process.

I'm pretty sure 919-451-xxxx is NOT a Duke number. Duke numbers are usually 919-684-xxxx or 919-681-xxxx. The 451 number was most likely the cell phone number of the student who called you. Most of the people I know around here who got their cell numbers from Verizon have 451 numbers.

To answer some of the above questions, if you get a call it will NOT necessarily be from your student interviewer, though it would likely be from one of the students on the committee. And it doesn't matter if you interviewed locally or regionally, because I heard they're just splitting up the list among volunteers, and trying to call as many as they can. I don't think they've ever succeeded in calling everyone in past cycles though, so don't think the worst if you don't hear anything by phone.

Congrats to those of you who've already heard! I'll see you at second look!!! Everyone else, hang in there! I just hope you don't have to play the evil waitlist game like I did. 🙁

tommygunn, thanks for the great updates throughout this whole process. i was wondering if you had any idea of how many acceptances are given out to fill the class. this may put the number called so far in better perspective. at this point i am pretty sure ive been waitlisted or rejected since so many phone calls on SDN alone probably means alot of phone calls in general went out. also, do you have any more information regarding whether acceptances are sent out in rounds??? thanks!
 
Mail came and left again today with no word... *sigh*
