Countdown Until December 1st 2017

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm working and such, but I'm definitely looking forward to Dec 1 being over.

do they leave voice mails if we don't pick up? Also will they contact us for sure on Dec 1st if we have pre dec interviews?

I believe they call on dec 1 and 2 for acceptances and the following week they send out waitlists and rejections.

I am wondering the same thing. I'm sure they do leave voicemails, as long as yours is set up. Also, a question tangentially related. Is it true that some schools may reject before Dec. 1st (if you interviewed at those schools)? But you won't be able to know if you're accepted or waitlisted (or, for most schools, rejected) Dec 1st?

Schools can reject you before December 1st if they felt like you weren't a match for their school during the interview. From what I know it's rare for that to happen before dec 1st though.

Penn is the only know that I know about that starts rejecting those that they don't want and haven't interviewed pretty much from here on out. They send letters in the mail.

We all worked so hard to get this far. We are all truly blessed to receive any predecember interviews. No matter what, let’s all be proud of how far we’ve come and how much we’ve achieved.

I got a letter from Penn last week and was afraid to open it because I was sure it was a rejection letter. It was some sort of admissions info packet though

Have status for any schools changed for you all?
All of mine changed pretty much as I walked out of the doors of the schools. The only one that still says "invited for interview" is columbia even though I interviewed there a while ago...

I haven't slept well in over a week and I don't anticipate getting back to normal any time soon. My poor roommate tells me every morning that I sit up and mumble random things in my sleep each night- some nights it's about cadaver lab but most nights it has to do with December 1st. Bless her.

That is what I have been doing also. I am working 60 hours each week right now (1 full time job + 2 part time jobs) and I honestly do not even mind because I am so preoccupied thinking about 12/1... Plus each time I get really tired working I just remember the financial aid presentations at some of the interviews.... lol

I just found this thread today and can relate to every single post.

Ik a lot of you say sdn causes anxiety and stuff but tbh but I think it has helped me. nice to have a large community going through the same thing. im sure my friends and family are fed up of me discussing this all the time lol

I have had so many nightmares about either getting wait listed everywhere or just hearing nothing on dec 1st.

So glad to hear I’m not the only one losing sleep. I’ve had so many nightmares in the past couple of days. I’m eternally tired lol. We’re almost there!

Hey guys.
QUESTION.

Have post dec invites gone out at all or do they only go out after dec 1st?

Im thinking ill get into the schools I already interviewed at but would consider any that have cheaper tuition I guess....

Also, how long do you have to decide to accept a dec 1st offer? Does it expire after a few weeks? Do you have to pay your deposit asap?

Also, I feel sad for you guys losing sleep and getting so anxious. Take a deep breath my friends, Win or lose keep your chin up. Life doesn't end if you get rejected. I had to learn that the hard way.

Fingers crossed.

I believe they give you 30 days to take their acceptance offer which requires you pay the first deposit. You can always drop your spot if you get into a different school later down the road, you just wont get your money back from that deposit.

And yes, post December interviews are being handed out and they will continue to do so until all spots are filled.

I know they say "don't panic, be patient" if you don't hear anything on Dec 1, but I think I safely speak for us all when I say if 5:00 pm et, 12/1/17 passes and I haven't heard anything...I'm gonna be freaking tf out

I'm starting to get more nervous now. I am still good, but definitely losing the zen I had a few weeks ago. A couple folks I know have heard about medical and pharmacy schools. I just wish we could know by now. Anyone have any idea why Dec. 1st is the notification date?

So do dental schools send out majority of offers Dec. 1 and if you don't hear from the schools you interviewed at chances are your waitlisted/rejected?

It depends on the school.

I believe it was so schools wouldn't rush their offers towards the top students and make the students decide prematurely before they had the chance to interview with other schools. For instance, if the first school you interview with accepts you on the spot and you have 30 days to put down your deposit, you might be forced to move forward with that school and miss out on more preferable opportunities.

This is great for the top students, but I wish it was an ongoing process for us average kids :/

If only I could have that problem. Hahaha

What will you do if you were to get into both?

Cry lol then get drunk that night. jk about get drunk but dead serious about crying. Lol Would probably be the hardest decision ever. What would you do?

It'd definitely be a great problem to have! I know both schools give a lot of money, so I'd probably try to leverage the two offers. I know a couple of people who did this, so Penn offered more money.

Really? How does one leverage their offers without coming across the wrong way? “I’d really love to go here but I just got an acceptance from X school and they offered me a scholarship that’s making the cost significantly different. I love your school but the price difference is what’s giving me a cause to pause...” Idk I think that sounds so weird haha you have a better approach?
