I am in Bergen County, NJ, adjacent the NYC epicenter. Bergen County is also one of the most severely affected regions in the country.
COVID-19 is secondarily spread by asymptomatic carriers via aerosol clouds that may persist in hallways, etc. What is the role of pathologists in this setting? Shouldn't every effort be made to facillitate remote work (digital slide image analysis, extra PPE)?
Are the current, more general OSHA regulations on contact and respiratory precautions for COVID-19 sufficient or appropriate for areas that are disproportionately affected?
I'm telling staff that if they have dry lab workflows that can be done remotely, then they SHOULD be done remotely. Our state is on lockdown shelter in place currently.
