I'm originally from SoCal, going to pharm school in a different state, and considering applying for CA residencies this upcoming season. If you don't mind me asking, what do interested students normally reach out to you about? My initial instinct would be a basic introduction, ask about the culture of the program, some of the stuff you would normally ask in person, etc.
Thanks!
It went mostly like this (truncated):
Hi, I'm aznmiy and I'm currently a 4th year student at so-and-so college. I'm unable to attend ASHP/CSHP/etc this year but was very interested in applying to your residency program this winter. Is it possible to get in touch with your current residents, or even come by for a brief visit while I'm home for winter break?
I wouldn't expect an RPD or even current resident to have the time to peck out a response about company culture, etc... best to do in person or over the phone.
So something basic like that to the RPD...most of the time, at these conferences, you'll be talking to the current residents anyway. Also, I don't know many programs that award a substantial # of points in their app process for prior outreach. I think we awarded one token point out of the 100 if anyone emailed or visited, iirc.
