Oh thanks! I just saw that on the portal. I'm from NV too..did you by chance give them a call already?

I left a message...haven't heard back yet! I'll post here when I do!

Last I heard NV has 4 spots. Where are you guys?! UNR?

Really? Thanks for the info! Where did you hear that by the way? I tried looking online but couldn't find it. And I go to UNR..are you from NV too?

Just talked to the WICHE office for NV, and they'll be notifying the schools next week sometime. WICHE will mail something out, but said the schools are usually pretty quick to let the students know, so expect to hear from them before the WICHE letter.

I'm from Vegas, but finished up my prereqs at Univ of Massachusetts. I'm a military spouse, so moved here with my husband, but we fortunately were able to keep our NV residency!

Has anybody gotten their acceptance letter in the mail yet? I got an email acceptance but no snail mail yet. I am in NJ.

I emailed the admissions office about this exact thing, and they emailed me a PDF of the letter. It sounds like the snail mail letters were supposed to have arrived already.

Fellow NJ peep here..got my offer letter few days before Christmas. You should ahve gotten yours by now for sure. Call or email them.

Found out I didn't get WICHE from my state (NV), and really struggling with the decision to attend CSU (my top choice school)! I don't have an in-state school to choose from, but was also accepted to Wash State (about the same OOS cost as CSU), and Oregon State (about $15k/year less than CSU). Although I was pretty disappointed about WICHE initially, I'm actually pretty relieved that I won't be forced to move back to NV for 4 years after graduation! But still...the $$$$ part sucks!

That's the way I thought about it. I know some people decide to decline their WICHE offers and generally there is some waiting list that moves until all the sponsored seats are taken. I know in AZ that happens quite a bit. Don't give up on it yet.

Oh my gosh..you voiced my sentiments exactly! I was pretty bummed about not getting WICHE too, but I've always thought the plus side was not being forced to return to NV to work for 4 yrs, plus you have to pay back the required 20k (which makes it a little less of a sponsorship if you think about it). Therefore, I too am struggling b/w Oregon and CSU (also my top choice) based on the tuition costs. So far I've decided to visit both schools and cities and get a complete understanding of them both and then go from there to see if I can justify the add'l cost and what feels right. Have you visited any of the schools yet? Do you have a plan on how to decide? (If you don't mind sharing). I'd love to hear how others deal with this type of decision

Not in it this cycle, but visiting really helped make the decision for me last cycle. Also cost. I think when you visit you'll get a feel as to whether or not you'll actually feel comfortable there.

Has anybody been accepted into the combined DVM/PhD program? If so then what are your stats and do they accept people into the combined program (fully funded) at CSU after they have already started their DVM program?

I only ask because I really want to get my DVM and I really want to do research so I am torn between going for my PhD (which I have interviews for) or the DVM (which I was accepted into). I really like the fact that you can get your DVM/PhD in 7 years (instead of 4 + 4 to 6 years) and that the DVM portion is funded (cause I would be a miserable person with 300k in debt). I was kind of hoping that if I accepted the DVM seat, then I could reapply for the combined program the following year and be more likely to get in because the people there would know that I am a good student and really great/experienced in the lab...

Not a PhD/DVM student (just DVM), but CSU does not allow acceptance into combined programs after you've been accepted as DVM-only. It's either one or the other. They do have that deal where if you apply for the PhD/DVM program and don't get accepted, your application gets put back into the DVM-only pool, but since you already got in, I would suspect you don't want to forgo your seat and apply again next year 😉

The way scheduling works out with research lab time for DVM/PhD students is the only way that combined program can take 7 years. Without having lab time and other classes your first year, you wouldn't be able to complete the program in time - hence why they don't let you apply after you've gone through the first year.

However, I will say that CSU has a great research atmosphere and there are TONS of vet student research opportunities! Not sure what to tell you about getting your PhD, but at least your lab skills don't have to get rusty!

Hope that helps.

I was wondering if anyone knows if it is beneficial to "update my file" with new experiences that I have done since the submission of the apps?

I am on the non-sponsered Alternate list, and my experiences are predominantly small animal but I have new experiences since November working with Horses and as an Animal Health Tech with the USDA?
Any thoughts or input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Do any OOS people know if CSU lets you switch to IS tuition after the first year? For those of you who dont have any assistance from parents or otherwise, how much are you expecting to take out in loans?

Is anybody else interested in going to visit CSU earlier than their visitation day? I have some acceptances from PhD programs & am trying to decide which to do, but I don't want to wait until the last minute to make my decision.

If it makes more sense for you to visit on a different day, then email the admissions peeps that you want to visit, and they're super nice. I had reasons to be in CO for a different day, and they set up a whole day schedule of appointments with professors, clinicians, financial aid person, etc... of interest to me. And there was a student assigned to orient me and sit in on a lecture and show me around the cubes and anatomy lab and stuff.

Wow. That sounds really great! I was just asking to see if there were any other girls who were thinking about going in march and might want to share a room.

New to the forum today, but I got my state-sponsored position notification back in December. Hello fellow 2017 classmates!

Also, has anyone made a facebook group for CSU 2017 DVM yet? If so, let me know, I would love to get to know you guys ahead of time!

Like minnerbelle said, you can set up a different date that is more fitting to you. I scheduled mine on March 18 and they accommodated me.

I am with everyone struggling with the high OOS cost. CSU is my top choice but I got recruitment scholarships to two other schools who also offers in state conversion by second year. I am not so keen going there as I am to CSU. So my heart is fighting with my head.

lost...

Does anyone know if they started calling people off of the waitlist?
