CSULB Pre Med Student getting Discouraged

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
According to my findings here, CSUF has an 85% success rate of getting students into professional school if they had a committee letter. They also have Linkage programs that give students early acceptance into schools, therefore they would not go through AMCAS. Comparing that to UCI, they had a 27% matriculation rate in 2013 whereas the national matriculation rate is 40%.

I wanted to ensure I wasn't misinterpreting the UCI data, so I checked the table posted above and it says UCI has about 400 applicants, consistent with the UCI data in my link. The UCI data also states the national matriculation rate was 40%, also true on AAMC.

Looking at UCLA, about 50% of their first-time applicants get into medical school, which is higher than the national average. But based on the data, only a little over 10% of UCLA undergraduates in recent years were first-time applicants. So that means a little over than 5% of UCLA graduates matriculate. So unless I misinterpreted the data, UCs having a much higher applicant count doesn't mean much.

Maybe CSUF emphasizes or is good at weeding out those that aren't fit to go to medical school through their pre-med advisor and focuses on grooming those that are. That number of applicants chart doesn't tell you the matriculation rate.

I must say, these stats are very interesting and I want to look into it more. I might even recommend CSUF's postbac to some of my friends if any further investigation supports these data.
