I used to love the cube counting part because it was the easiest section for me. I could easily visualize each cube and how many exposed sides they had.

I just took a few weeks off from studying, however, and when I tried cube counting today, I just couldn't do it for some reason! It felt as if I was looking at an MC Esher painting!! As in, the problem wasn't me having trouble visualizing how many exposed sides each individual cube had--the problem was me being able to just see the entire structure one way instead of my mind vacillating between two possible interpretations of the structure. Like, I couldn't tell if the cubes were stacked two-high or just one-high in many of the cube counting problems--my mind made me see it both ways!!

Has this happened to anyone else?

One way to visualize this is just look at the cubes that are adjacent to the ones you are trying to see and count them. If they have the same height, you got your answer. Hope this helps.

Everyone has their own method. I personally used Crack Dat and cube generator on DAT Bootcamp but practiced every single day to the point where I was not counting the sides in my mind anymore but literally being able to identify the number of sides just by glancing at the cube and its surroundings. Basically learnings patterns because eventually you will see every type of cube layout essentially. Practice is everything on PAT.

Now angles on the other hand gave me a heart attack every day even on test day. I hate them so much I couldnt stand to do it again.

I almost got eye cancer from practicing the angle ranking problems
