I had 1 tech until 1pm then I finally got some decent coverage towards the evening and we had to play major catch up. It was hard as hell to do.
amen! 120k was not worth it to me...never will be...550-600 daily, 188 rph hours in which 92 hours was for the overnight rphs. That left 96 hours for 2 pharmacists that were 44 hours base and left 8 hrs of overlap. Didnt matter how i did the schedule, we were always short help! I left that salary and am not looking back...ever...

At least I don't feel bad that I'm running a lot of times with no help. Luckily though, my store only does ~150/day. With that, that usually means I'm running by myself a lot. And with my main tech being "sick/ issues with the front store" we have assistant managers filling. I find that a lot of times, I'm actually arriving at my store 1/2 hour earlier just to get things running smoother. Getting the day to run by smoother is more than worth it than that extra pay imo.
But like I told all my friends currently in retail, retail isn't bad if it meets 3 criteria.
First: if you have normal hours, not inhuman, slave labor hours
Second: if you have tech help, no, an assistant manager helping doesn't count
Third: you get a damn lunch break, like a real break, not jamming that sandwich in at any random downtime you get
If those criteria are met, pharmacy is amazing. It really is, i love my patients that come to my store.

I work 14's, have plenty of help, don't take a lunch (but still eat 2 meals most days), and we do about 200/day. I feel very little stress at work. Every store I've worked at in our district is this way, and it's more than manageable. I'd take this over WAG any day. I got a lunch break there, but I barely wound down before it was back for more torture. We even had tons of automation and I'd take my current job for 1/2 the pay. I don't know where the rest of you CVS people work, but maybe it's not CVS that's the problem...it's your district?
Divide your offer by 52 and then divide that by the average or base number of hours worked per week.
For example 100,000.00 per year at 40 hours per week:
100,000.00/52 = 1,923.08
1,923,08/40 = $48.08/hour

My home CVS store does about 2-3 hundred on average for weekdays and I find it to be completely fair. I can honestly say I feel a very high level of job satisfaction and low stress. However, in my district we are not the norm. In a district of 14, my store and one other does this volume. The others all average well over 2k a week.

Perhaps. Whenever I call some bumpkin town CVS to take a transfer the voice on the other side always seems relaxed and cheerful.
For example, today I called up some store in Texas. After saying everything I needed to say in 10 seconds, the person on the other end was like, "damn, you seem really rushed". Today, I had to work with a pharmacist that graduated this past May and today was his 3rd day of work 😱
Simplify the math to one calculation. Yearly salary divided by 2080 hours.
100,000/2080 = 48.0769 Round up and you get $48.08/hr.

Definitely true, because I've worked in those "bumpkin towns", but right now I'm working in a city of 4 million people and our district has great management. We do things the way that the company asks us to (PCI, workflow, etc) and everything runs smoothly at most of our stores. I still feel like I have a lot of freedom to help customers, and I know my pharm supervisor has my back if I need to make hard decisions to keep a customer happy.
I think it is the district too. I average 300-350 scripts in most of the CVS stores that I work at. I get plenty of help and usually only stay 5 to 10 minutes later if the store has a drive thru. I dont feel it and in my opinion, it is hard to notice when you already pulled 14 hours. That and I get the satisfaction that the guy tomorrow wont get any surprises.
The money is good too... I just paid off another 7.5k from my student loans. Trying to get at it while the interest rates are low...

Simplify it more. Take your salary and divide by 2. That's approximately your hourly wage.
Eg $100k/2 = $50/hr
Or for me
-$70k/2 = -$35/hr

WTF? You guys sound like union workers, whining about every extra minute you work. Now that attitude is what's wrong with the country, and turns us into a country where everyone's just a factory worker punching in and out. In the real world, if there's a job still left to do, then people put in some reasonable extra time to finish it. Yes, even in ibanking.

Another thing about CVS that I don't like. The pharmacy supervisor told that pharmacists that when they make the pharmacist schedule, they can't have consecutive weekdays off.
This is the schedule before:
Pharmacist A: Monday, Tuesday, 1/2 Wednesday
Pharmacist B: 1/2 Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
And then they would alternate weekends. He doesn't want that anymore, he's telling them they gotta do this.
Pharmacist A: Tuesday, Thursday, 1/2 Friday
Pharmacist B: Monday, Wednesday, 1/2 Friday
And alternate weekends.

This is what happens when you have "professionals" who can't show up to work on time or close their gates early. Blame your fellow CVS pharmacists not the company. Although they should have dealt with it on a personal basis.
200 over a 14 hours period is a bit slow for me. I have to keep busy or I stare at the clock.

Hmmm, so as I recall, you're starting an independent pharmacy right? How is it going so far? Where did you get the capital to start up? Did you take a business loan? What is your niche or specialty? How many employees are working for you? Good luck!
so far so good. The capital came from our own pockets and money from family. No business loan was taken out...but if your gonna start an independent you will need at a minimum 150k to start. anything less and you probably wont make it.
Our niche is compounding, standard stuff and we're getting into vet compounding. We are only 2 months into it, so we are still "young"! \
As for employees, we have a delivery driver, a tech mon-thurs, and 1 part time tech for weekends. Overstaffed but we will need them in the near future and they are really good techs! But overall, we are doing fine. The business pays for itself. Now we have to work on this AWP rollback...BS!
That's amazing, good on you. I'm definitely rooting for you, stranger! 150k is actually less than I thought you would need to start a pharmacy. I guess it depends on how big you are, where you are, etc. Just the legal expenses must be astronomical. Someone on the forum here told me that to start a pharmacy, you need 2-3mill...but she is just a first year pharm student with a tendency to just make things up. Compounding sounds like a good niche, good luck to you. Thanks for the info!
2-3 million is a bit fat fetched. 2-3 million and i would retire! lol! 150k would cover your initial drug order, and money to cover your business bills for at least 6 months. Thanks for the good wishes!

You would make a terrible independent pharmacy owner. It sounds mean but it's true. I cannot believe a pharmacist is complaining about 5 minutes of time opening and closing a store.
My colleagues are gonna love reading this.

Have you read the entire thread? That 5 minutes extra of closing time can easily turn into 30-45 minutes if more people start wandering in.

I worked in pharmacy for 9 years thank you very much. I went back to school to get my law degree and now I do what I do now.
My mother owned an independent pharmacy so I know what I'm talking about. I stand by my statement that you shouldn't go into independent pharmacy.

exactly. working for 10 extra mins for yourself is different than working 10 extra mins for a CEO.
CEO's used to make 40x more than the average worker (i.e. $40 for every $1 the worker makes). Now they make 550x the average worker...
at first i thought 10mins/day is nothing...i can't believe a professional would complain about this....then someone rightly pointed out that this is equivalent to 1 full week of free work, per year. when you look at it from this perspective, it's unacceptable...
