Davis Final Decisions

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
are you interviewing soon notdeadyet? good luck!
Thanks for the dates. Yeah, I'm interviewing there in two weeks. Thanks for the luck. Curious to see how it goes.

By the way, is there a hotel within walkking distance of where you meet for the interview? If not, is there one folks recommend? I'll be driving.

Looked at the interview feedback, but one hotel didn't jump out at me...

hmm... i don't know if there was one within walking distance. but it wouldn't be too bad if you had to drive to the interview. they validated parking for those who drove and parked in the parking complex.

Is there yet any chance to get interview from this school???

They do, but even though you'll get a little free day pass, don't lose the little time-stamped card you get at the entrance. I did that on my interview day, which led to a really embarrassing situation involving the mean lady at the parking kiosk and my interviewer. :scared:

I got in anyway, though I was sure after that that I wouldn't!

As to lodging, there is a hotel that's right across the street from the medical school. I can't vouch for the rates, but you can't beat the location. You may get a discount for mentioning you're an interviewee, but I don't know for certain. The hotel that's right across the way is this one:

Marriott Courtyard Sacramento Midtown
4422 Y Street
Sacramento, California, 95817, USA
Phone: 1-916-455-6800

You can always call Terri and ask if there are any other recommended places to stay. Also, there are always student hosts if you don't want to shell out the cash! I swear, we don't bite! 😀

Have any mid-February interviews heard anything yet? I saw a post a while back saying they had started to let the Jan interviews know, so I'm wondering when they'll get around to us . . .

Good to know. I'll give them a ring. And thanks, kbear, for the parking suggestion...

I'm 35 and married. Even if it wouldn't skeeve out the student, I like nice comfortable beds...

so, all of us in the 'haven't heard a thing since the interview couple of months ago' pool....can we attend the second look that is coming up? (think owen wilson, wedding crashers type deal)

Haha, totally understandable! I interviewed at a lot of schools (for various reasons), and spent a lot of nights on those dang Aero beds that would gradually deflate throughout the night. Evil things! But hey, I was poor when interviewing, so the ability to crash on a sofa or even an Aero bed was an absolute Godsend. 🙂

ha! now i feel bad for offering my aerobed to various interviewees

I called the admissions office today and they said that they are backlogged as far as reviewing applications but they should be done reviewing apps in 3 to 4 weeks

Holy Moly, 3 to 4 weeks. I'm getting nervous...:scared:

Some committees met on Monday, including the one my file was reviewed in - so some decisions are coming out this week. I found out from someone on my committee.

I'm sure that this is the frustration talking, but I am on the brink of being "over" Davis. At this point, I think we all know that 3 to 4 weeks really means that the emails will go out on May 14th at 4:45pm and we will all have to make decisions on the schools between then and midnight. And that's assuming that they don't buy themselves time by putting EVERYONE that has yet to receive a final decision on the waitlist so that they can pour over the applicants even further...

Okay, now that I have that out of my system, I can admit that the previous paragraph was merely the ramblings of a jilted Davis-lover.

It seems from this thread that you can be accepted by phone, e-mail, or snail mail right? So we should be prepared for anything?

Yeah, this "hold" thing totally, totally sucks. I wonder if they will even get back to me by May 15th. You'd think so... but the way the decisions are going out this year, who knows. If they don't get back to the hold people until all interviews are done, I am really not holding my breath for any news soon. And I think 3-4 weeks sounds awful fast unless someone in admissions has been hoarding decisions.

when did you interview?

I interviewed Jan. 22. I guess each committee reviews 8-ish applications at a time, about every 2-3 weeks. so davis trickles more than others because there's no 'group' release days... the committee member is a family friend, so he didn't vote on me, but had gone over my application and knew I was up this past monday... we'll see. he said i should know by friday.

I interviewed late March and they told us that they should reach a decision on our applications by the end of April (about 4-6 weeks). And if we haven't heard from them by then, we need to call.

No! Feel good! If it weren't for my wonderful, amazing student hosts, I don't think I would have been able to interview at as many schools as I did. I was incredibly grateful for every wink of sleep I got at those houses--even if I was sleeping on a mildly leaky Aero bed. 😉 Those things are *still* better than crashing on a couch!

true, true.. I remember my interview trip to Cleveland.. My flight was delayed in Denver for about 7 hrs due to "aircraft availability" which, by the way, absolutely nobody from the airline could define for me. They tried to cancel my flight and I'm like hell no, this is an interview. Well I ended up flying into Cleveland around 1:45 AM, too late for my host to come pick me up. After about a $40 cab ride, I end up getting to the host's place at 2:30 AM and getting just a few winks of sleep (barely) on a nasty, smelly ol' couch before my 7AM interview. I tossed and turned because I didn't want to oversleep.. I sure would have LOVED an Aero-bed though.. better yet, I wish I didn't go to that interview! *sigh* Hindsight is always 20/20...

At any rate, I think that was my last fling with United Airlines..

Anyone ever got weird financial aid email from UC Davis? I haven't been accepted yet but I got an email to submit tax forms and citizenship status to UCD financial aid office today.

Thanks for the rec, Gigatt. I actually went ahead and booked with them. They have a special rate if you mention you're there for an appointment with the medical school. Thanks for the suggestion...

I just called the hotel. they said HE needed to call (that always cracks me up...) then bring proof of the interview. Just out of curiosity, what kind of discount do they give you?

I actually received an email from the financial aid counselor saying that i should send in the supplemental financial aid papers. I called her because i thought that only admitted students were required to send them in. She then notified me that I had been accepted. 🙂

I just called, turns out there was a decision made last night. I got accepted! sweet. second look anyone?

anyone know what the tuition is going to be at davis next year?

I got in too.. i got the financial aid email and i called in to clarify that... :luck:

wow, congrats everyone!! (dying of jealousy!!)

that's so awesome! congrats y'all! i'm incredibly jealous!

when did they say the on hold people will hear back again? end of may? that's another month and half! i think i really will die before then...

Where is Mr. Belding???? I hope he got good news today!

I interviewed 1/22 also, and I just called the admissions office. They told me that my application has not come up in committee yet. Hope this info calms some people out there.

Yeah, does anyone know when on hold people will hear back? I got an on hold e-mail from them ages ago and can't find it and can't remember when they said we'd hear back.

i think they just said those of us on hold would hear back after all applicants have been reviewed. so we probably won't hear back til the last people who interview hear something. bummer, huh? Oh well, at least we DO still have a chance. It doesn't seem like they are too shy about rejecting post-interview.

UR right, Hurray for still having a chance.😀

Congrats to those accepted!! And good luck to everyone else.. things should be moving here pretty soon!

Remember, if you have any other questions about the school or area, don't hesitate to ask. Be sure to enjoy your summer break, get your mind off the application process and relax!

After six months, finanlly got in. Beware of the email from fin aid office,😀 apparently, they are more efficient than the admissions office.
Love davis...withdraw will be heartbreaking.

anyone have the details about second look weekend?
