Davis Final Decisions

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
its been about 2 for me now.
Oh well, its a 50/50 thing at this point.

Has anyone gotten an interview yet after getting placed on "hold" ?

good luck bump. maybe this will be our week. after all, we are getting into February now. CRAZY!

Game time (I think)

I talked to my student interviewer today and it sounds like the adcom is kicking it in gear. They have already met this week and will meet monday or tuesday the next two weeks to try to catch up. Soooooo, we should start hearing soon.

She also said that the full adcom has not formally convened yet (this week was the first) so don't consider the acceptances floating around to be discouraging...VERY few have been extended.

Get excited...

awesome. thanks for checking in. i really hope something good comes out of the next few weeks!!!

i was emailed and put on "hold" today. I'm disappointed, but I also don't think this means much except that I will be waiting much longer for an actual decision. in a way, it seems that the hold just buys them more time before they have to make decisions.

hey there, i was put on hold today too. looks like they're making some progress on decisions, albeit very indecisive progress. i have to admit that this waiting game is not doing anything for my impression of the school, but i guess it just shows that the schools have most of the power in this process. good luck to you, i hope you hear good news eventually (i don't think it'll be too soon, though, since we have to wait till they've reviewed everyone)

yeah, it totally sucks that they are messing with our emotions. do they have to let us know something by May 15?? i wonder if there is any chance that this hold doesn't actually last until all applicants are reviewed. (especially since at this rate that seems like never!)

um. anyone know if they're finished interviewing? I haven't head anything, not a hold, not a post-secondary rejection... nothing. Complete mid-october. Ah, i'll call 'em today.

well, perhaps you'll hear better news than a hold if you didn't get anything today. i'm just really not looking forward to waiting for months more. And I totally agree that all of this waiting and lack of decisions only hurts the school.

I'm in!!! My interviewer just emailed me!!

My impression of the students that are getting accepted right now is that they are no-brainers. The couple of MDApps that I have seen of those accepted demonstrate exceptional stats. What I hope is that after the ultra-qualified applicants are sorted through and accepted, funky, non-traditional apps like my own, that have a wart or two but also have something unique and interesting will get chosen on the second go around... At least that is my hope...

I'm totally with you, Calcox. And often the people who are exceptional on the first round are accepted to many, many places and end up withdrawing. At least that's what i'd like to think for now 🙂

hey...

i was just curios as to when you'all interviewed...i interviewed around the 20th of October and have yet to hear yet...did the hold EMAILs come in from the administration or from student interviewers?

thanks

FYI, I interviewed 11/16. Good luck to all of you! :luck: :luck:

Interviewed Oct. 19th, got my hold email from Terri Hall on Jan. 4th.

they are all over the place!!!!!

Interviewed early Nov, I forget what date. Still no word.

CalCox did you get a financial aid package even though you got a hold email?
Also did you Cox for some crew team?

Narc,

I did not get a package as in an offering of some sort, I got an envelope from Davis with some info about what a future med student should be looking into as far as finances goes. It was the one that raised my hopes when I saw the big envelope from Davis and then let them crash when I realized what it was.

As for crew, yes I was a coxswain in high school and college and a high school and collegiate assistant coach for a few years after I graduated, before I gave it up to commit to making med school happen. That was a while ago though...

I interviewed 10/30 and got an e-mail this morning for decline. Hope this helps.

All you guys that interviewed... do you still have to drive between Davis and Sacramento on interview day? Or now that the campus has moved is it all in Sacto? THx!!

my girlfriend doesnt post on sdn, so i will throw out that she got a post-interview rejection yesterday as well... i think she interviewed in october sometime

they havent even gotten back to me yet after secondaries, oh well👎

this is getting scary.

what does that mean? why is it unbelievable that someone is rejected post-interview?

Because he got into a lot of great schools and had a lot of great interviews. Thats why. 🙄

Sorry to hear about the rejections. But congrats Cgscribe on your huge acceptances!!!

Did anyone else get an email from the Office of Medical Education regarding financial aid for 2007/2008? And this is AFTER that financial aid package teaser!

It was all done in Sacramento when I went and that was on 1/19. I think that if you're interviewing with a researcher it's possible to have your faculty interview on the Davis campus but I was under the impression that that was rare (if at all).

Turns out that email wasn't a teaser!...I got an ACCEPTANCE letter in the mail the very next day!!! (funny no one ever contacted me 😎 )

good luck everyone!

😀 :luck: 😀

No email for me yet. Still got the package in the mail though. I hope thats all you need to get in 😀

Thanks for the sympathy guys. I had already been accepted at UCSF, so that definitely eased it. I think Davis is climbing though, I enjoyed my interview day there a lot. Nice people, new facilities, etc. Good luck all!

cgscribe, you're gonna rock it wherever you end up, be it ucsf, harvard, or wherever. cest la vie.

however, this news got my conspiracy theory-laden mind to thinking. and my half-baked conclusion? the uc's are talking, maybe even trading applicants like baseball cards. based on your track record, i find it hard to believe that you got a flat-out rejection. my davis interviews weren't so hot, and i still got a hold. meanwhile, your rejection comes right on the heels of an sf acceptance. methinks something is rotten in the state of denmark.

things that make you go hmmm...

edit: i guess that means that i've been put on waivers, futilely wondering if the padres or a's will pick me up

I wonder if he told them where he interviewed or where he had been accepted. Maybe they knew he was going to better places so why bother giving him an acceptance. I mean UCSF vs. UCD is a no brainer.

Hahaha, I like the conspiracy theories. I think it's just because my student interviewer and I didn't click: I really felt like she was trying to trap me. She kept asking me questions repeatedly, and didn't seem satisfied with a lot of answers I gave. It's all good though. I think that the medical school admissions process should work like a baseball or football draft, with schools stepping up to the podium every couple hours/days to announce their latest pick.

I agree. It would be nice to be offered millions as well. You know I think we met at the UC Irvine interview. I remember you went to Fresno.

For those of you still waiting to hear, the adcom supposedly met today...

Kbear, sorry to hear about the waitlist...sucks.

Thanks, I'm hoping my hold is just a delayed acceptance 🙂

good luck Mr. Belding, last week they met on both Tue and Wed, so perhaps they will again this week!

who are still waiting to hear about an interview. sigh....

dang it.. they've met that many times and i still haven't heard from them?? anyone hear how many they've accepted/rejected/held so far?

when i talked to them last week the office said that it was "the first week we are meeting regularly" and they had meetings on Tue and Wed I believe. So if they JUST started meeting regularly, they couldn't have possibly reviewed too many of us. And they tend to "hold" a lot of people b/c of their small class size.
