Davis Final Decisions

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I think it would take UCLA to get me out of Davis, and I don't really think that's going to happen.

So yeah, anyone else pretty sure this one's it?

it's really hard to say when the school WON'T BOTHER ACCEPTING ANYONE ANYTIME SOON (present company excluded, of course)

sorry, just had to vent for a second. davis appears to be holding its cards very close to the vest at the moment, so there seem to be a lot of us still in the dark as to our status. congrats on your acceptance though.

Why would you think that Dopa? Did you get a status change?

By the way I'm at only about 2 weeksish waiting and I'm already obsessively checking my e-mail. Ah what a futile endeavor.

I would be able to say that davis is likely it if they would just give me the nod... Only UW is my UCLA.

*Sigh*

hey dopa- have you gotten anything in the mail? I got the happy email 3 weeks ago, but without some kind of letter, I'm starting to worry that my interviewers were playing a trick on me!

Yeah, I got something a while back. I don't remember how long it took, but somehow I doubt it's a trick. 😉 Mazal tov.

Anyway, so yeah, davis, start accepting people so I know who I'm going to love and cherish for four years, damnit.

No one's really all that sure yet?

And thanks for the congrats, and no, I haven't had a status change at UCLA, which is partially why I feel pessimistic.

Davis is the new black in medical schools; UCSF might have the name recognition and the research capabilities, but Davis has everything UCSF has sans the egos and bureaucracies. While the Bay Area seems a lot more hip than Sac, the very modest cost of living and central locale makes Sac attractive in my eyes.

Yep got axed by Davis. Unreal.......

you were just axed by Davis?!? I can't believe that!

hey narc, i've been following this thread for some time. i'm sorry to hear about the bad news, i know you were really looking forward to hearing back from them. may i ask how you found out? thanks, and sorry again.

Email. They sent one saying I was rejected and one saying I was on hold. Had to email them back to find out the truth.

I was on my way to the airport to interview in Oregon (since I had heard NOTHING yet from any cali schools and was feeling despondent) and I got a call from Davis.

I'm IN!!!! I'm IN!!!!

My family lives in Davis, I grew up there...and I am SO PSYCHED to be moving back home again!!!

I turned around and cancelled my flight to portland. What a crazy day!

When did you interview? Congrats by the way

November 13.

If its any consolation, I don't think they are going in ANY discernable order. And I didn't get anything in the mail or email prior...

Just the phone call. Good luck to everyone waiting, hope to see you in the fall!!

hey! i also interviewed on Nov 13th and just got an email (today) about my acceptance! congrats to both of us!

Yay! Are you thinking about going? Or are you considering other places too? I was the girl with the curly-ish red hair, glasses, and I'm living in Kansas. Maybe you remember me...which one were you?

I'm not sure! I think it's between OHSU and Davis right now. Though, I'm kind of leaning towards OHSU. I really loved Davis, though! Congrats again. Are you going there for sure?

(I was the short, dark-haired girl. This should narrow it down since there were only 4 of us interviewees total.)

That's weird - I was on my way to OHSU when I got the call and I cancelled my flight and my interview, because in-state tuition + family = major perks. I totally remember you, we both knew April from Oberlin (she ate in my co-op!). I am not really considering anywhere else anymore, since like I said, in-state tuition + family is pretty swaying. Previously I was serious about Pitt. Anyway, I hope to see you at second look..I can't wait to see the new facilities, apparently they are gorgeous.

got waitlisted today... ugh i had such a good interview too... =(

congrats to the people who were recently accepted!! i'm still on post-interview hold, but i'm still optimistic about my chances!

Congrats to those accepted!! It's nice to see people excited to come here. Davis really is up and coming as far as med schools are concerned. There are a lot of brilliant people here, that's for sure. And humility/comradorie is key..

To the waitlisters, don't worry you have a great chance still! There are definitely people who get in off the waitlist, with movement really happening in the summer.

Last year the official waitlist came out in June or so, and there is a top half of the waitlist and a bottom half of the waitlist. You can call and find out what half you are in... but don't call until the waitlist is actually formed..

so if you ARE waitlisted, you probably won't hear back until June or July..

It's good to see a current student that is excited enough about the school to be here advocating on its behalf...

My student interviewer seemed more tentative, so its reassuring to see.

Congrats to everybody getting in. And Narc, I'm really sorry, you were the most enthusiastic poster on here and Davis would have been lucky to have you.

I definitely think Davis has a bright future, and I was very impressed with the surgical faculty that hosted my day. Unfortunately, I didn't get in, but no grudges, I'll probably apply there again for residency.

Uhhh, any chance for those of us still waiting for an interview invite? (mooooooo)

There are actually several of us current students on here. 🙂

I wouldn't worry too much about any tentative feelings we students had when you interviewed; we were just getting ready for the big move to Sacramento, and there were a lot of things being ironed out at the time. But now that the move is done (and the new building is amazing), we're all a lot less apprehensive. By and large, we're a pretty happy bunch. 😀

How is the new curriculum working out? Do the MS1's like it?

oooo what a great choice to have SFBiker! I absolutely love Portland, one of my favorite cities, after San Francisco of course. Congrats on a great app cycle!

Ooh, I'm not really qualified to answer that; I'm an MS2. 😉 I know there are some things that have definitely improved, such as only having anatomy lab twice a week (as opposed to the 4x/week we had). I also know that there are some things that are less popular (such as the every-other-Monday quizzes).

There are a few changes that are affecting us (and every other medical school in the country) as well. The recent trend in medical education is one of reducing lecture hours in favor of more "self-directed learning." In typical bureaucratic fashion, the success of schools in integrating this is measured in number of "lecture hours" vs. number of "non-lecture hours." Both we and the first-year class have seen the introduction of many more discussion sections (which count as "non-lecture hours") for various classes. Some of these are excellent, and some of them are an utter waste of time. . .it really varies based on the class and your session leader. All of this is still very much being changed and improved.

For details on the new curriculum, though, I defer to the fantastic MS1's lurking here. Firebird, you game?

ah my bad. i'm on Hold instead of Waitlist. Though I really don't see the difference... Is there any?

is it too late to get an interview from Davis???

So do you think Davis' picking up the pace with committee meetings or are they still going at the snail-like pace we've all grown to love?

I 😍 Davis

if they just eventually give me an interview 😀

This one's gonna hurt like hell. :scared:

I was wondering if anyone here knows how much your interview counts for at Davis/how much they factor it into their overall consideration of your application. I forgot to ask about it on interview day, and it seems so did the rest of my group, lol. Thanks a bunch guys, and good luck.

Accepted today (3/5), interviewed Pearl Harbor Rememberance Day (12/7). Apparently the financial aid letter w/ "congratulations on your recent acceptance" beat the official acceptance. So read those financial aid letters carefully 😉. Good luck to those still in the waiting boat.

👍 It sounds like a batch of official decisions (mine included) will be mailed soon from when I called (3/5). I'm not sure exactly when.

Richard Kimble, congrats! Is davis your top choice?

I am so anxious to hear from Davis. Please please please give me good news! 😍

I loved UC Davis and could be a happy med student there. It very well could be where I end up. I'm in the very fortunate position of waiting on UCLA, UCI and USC as well (all having different benefits), so I'm constantly shuffeling them. But I'm very excited about this one.😀 I hope you hear good news potential classmate.

Anyone know the numbers for Davis, ie 1000 interviewed, 200 accepted? Also, word on how many have been accepted/rejected so far?

Also got "accepted" today via the financial aid letter. I guess the FAO jumped the gun since I haven't gotten any official letter, unless they accidentally sent this to me and I'm actually not accepted. I interviewed 12/18. I'm a little surprised, since I didn't think my interview went very well. Good luck to everyone else waiting. :luck:

i'm still on the post-interview hold list. but i'm keeping my hopes up. i love davis!
