Davis Final Decisions

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I still havent heard a thing. Maybe thats good at this point. Seems to me less good news and more bad news right now. I think my reject letter should be on its way.

Thanks, I'm hoping my hold is just a delayed acceptance 🙂

good luck Mr. Belding, last week they met on both Tue and Wed, so perhaps they will again this week!

Hi there,

sorry to hear about you being put on hold, but that's a good attitude to approach the whole deal. If you're still interested in Davis, definitely send an update/interest letter of some sort even after getting the hold letter. It seemed to work for me, I got a call right before the May 15 deadline, which meant I got my money back from the school where I'd sent a deposit 🙂

Good luck and hang in there!

umm...so if I have yet to recieve a secondary is this a done deal for me? please say no...

To give it to you straight, yes.

Like I said in an earlier post they told my interview group in Nov that those who had not received a secondary from Davis should not expect to get too much further in the process.

But don't let that stop you from sending them an update letter. There is always a chance.

I've tried doing the whole update thing, but they've told me on the phone they don't accept updates and that any updates they do receive go into a drawer.

im feelin' it today...some sort of answer is bound to come.

I would like to hear also

Thanks, Nairay! that gives me hope. And good luck narc, Mr. Belding, and anyone else waiting. seems like it was a quiet week so perhaps next week will bring news. who know, maybe they'll show some Valentine's love.

I just think they are never going to tell us.....

I wonder when adcom reviews completed applications (i.e. already interviewed) vs. secondaries (to extend an interview invite).....

I thought I might chime in with some info I got from Davis. I interviewed there just recently, and was told not to expect to hear back from them until late March or early April. I know you guys have been waiting for a while, but I am not sure they have been sending out acceptances all that consistently, and might be sending out their letters in batches. Also, they told us that even now in the middle of February, that they have only interviewed about half of their interviewees. Dr. Bera also said that they are probably going to interview about 500 students, and mail about 200 acceptances . . . so in the general, statistical, scheme of things, at least there is that to think about. I dunno if that helps, hurts or is just a step sideways, but I figured y'all might want to know. Good luck to you guys (and man, am I glad to finally be able to start posting on this thread!)

If it takes another two months I think I am going to soil myself. It's been 4 months (already) post-interview.

dear lord. sorry it's taken them so long. hopefully now though they're gonna start moving things along with everyone settled into the new campus . . .

I am hitting the 3 month mark.
In my interview group they said they would interview around 400, not 500. I hope they keep to the lower number 🙂

Lower numbers are good....but only AFTER I get an interview invite.

Good luck tomorrow, chev.

My interview was really, really relaxed, btw. Nothing to stress about.

Thanks for the thought Mr. Belding. I actually interviewed a few days ago. Kinda funny actually, mine was a little less than relaxed, with a more question/answer type format. But w/e. People said he was that way to everyone. lol. ANYhow, hope you guys get some good news soon!

Oh, oops. Thought I remembered seeing the 16th on your mdapps....

How long did they tell you that you will be waiting? November?

Maybe we will hear today lol

yeah, i really thought you guys would hear something this week. what is up with the adcom?!?! it can't possibly be too hard to make decisions on the people who interviewed early. sorry guys, hang in there! i hope you're posting good news soon!

send letters of interest if you really want to come to Davis. It helps!!

Davis really wants students that want to be here..

BTW.. 👍 👍 I love the school, love the new facility!!

good luck!! :luck:

Already did. Still havent heard a thing. How is the move from Davis to Sacto? I feel like the college feel is going to be lost with that. There isnt exactly a whole lot to do where the medical center is located as compared to Davis which is pretty much a college town.

Actually, the college feel wasn't very good in Davis either. The old med campus wasn't very close to the regular campus, and there wasn't much interaction with the undergrad students (unless you wanted to bike to the undergrad campus for lunch or something). The idea with the move is to make it easier to interact with advisors and "big sibs" which can help you with anything you need. If you want research opportunities, you got it.. you want shadowing experiences, you got it. It was a pain having to drive from Davis to Sac for all those things, and if you're still in need of the undergrad social life (didn't get enough??! =)) you can always just drive to Davis for Thursday night bar nights.. But the idea is to immerse yourself in medicine, and being on a hospital campus surrounded by attendings, residents and 3rd/4th yrs helps you out quite a bit.

There is more than enough to do in Sacramento; midtown has a decent bar scene and Sac state is here as well, giving you the college feel at many different places. Sac state is very close to the med campus here in Sacramento so you won't be disappointed. I see a lot of students at various coffee shops in the area (yes, I'm a coffee house *****)..

Trust me, everything is better with the move. The education building is open for your access 24/7 and it's pretty slick.

Anyways, good luck with your decisions!

Can any OOS tell me when they interviewed?

Thanks,

SF

to grovel for an interview spot? If it helps, I'll send a letter of interest, but I haven't found that necessary anywhere else so far, and I'd think that my applying there should be sufficient. I tend to think the follow up stuff would be annoying to the staff in admissions, but perhaps at some schools it's thought of well.

I think they forgot about me

Same here. 18 weeks and counting...

I really liked the school. I don't see why they are going to such great lengths to scare me away.

im not even going to try and predict when we will be told anything anymore...i put millions on two fridays ago....

Don't make us love it MORE!!! :meanie: 😉

I called them a few hours ago and it just rang and rang...

so I gave them about fifteen minutes to finish whatever they were doing- eating babies or kicking puppies or whatever it is that people who work in admissions offices do.

When I called back the line was busy.

I either a) caught them at the tail-end of a good puppy kicking session the first time I called and they then resumed to be busy or b(more likely)) they got caller id, saw it was me calling again, and took the phone off the hook.

Seriously. I will stop calling if they just give me a response.

Scout's honor.

Hey! I walked by their office about that time and they were just staring at the ringing phone, shaking their heads in disgust. Now that I think of it, they mentioned something about having caller ID and one lady was crossing a name off of the list.. man.. that sucks!!

=)

I know it seems like eternity but you'll hear soon enough! I'd say by mid March for most of you.

And you can definitely write a LOI for an interview... it will almost guaruntee you an interview if you are serious about UC Davis. I know from word of mouth and experience..

anyone coming to second look wknd?

anyone coming to second look wknd?

Are you nuts? I haven't even opened the folder they gave me on interview day. I figure the less I know, the less painful it'll be when (if) I get denied. 😳

I'd love to go. I just have to get through the whole pesky "getting accepted" part of the process first. Well, it's only been a month, but still. Davis, why can't you love me as much as I love you?

No crap, gotta get accepted first. The second look will probably happen before that at this rate.😀

When is second look weekend? Thus far, I'm only going to one, so I have a fairly open schedule... come on UCs send out letters already!

April 13 and 14.. April 14 is also picnic day in Davis if you're up for it.. Should be fun, hope the weather is good..

Sweet jesus. I loved Davis because it wasn't an ivy. Why do they have to start acting like an ivy now? Waiting 5 months to give a decision to an interviewee is just plain mean 😡

I did finally get an acceptance to Davis after waiting almost four months myself, but I will not be keeping it. Good Luck to all of you! There'll be an extra spot for one of you soon!
