Hello friends. I am an IMG with one year of residency credited and was denied by Wisconsin to get a license to practice. My other options are Virgin Islands or Puerto Rico or if anyone else has any suggestions I am all ears. Wisconsin was difficult to apply to with a lot of travels and interviews, how are the other options and where do you start to apply to those places. My goal is to stay in California and if possible work for VA or whatever organization possible. Anyone with any insight on my situation I would gladly appreciate it.

It really depends on WHY you were denied licensure in Wisconsin

I don't know anything about the VI or PR, but my bet is it would be harder than you think, especially (in the case of PR) if you don't speak fluent (medical) spanish.

The only other state that may allow foreign grads a license after 1 year is Georgia, and that's only if your school is on their approved list.

What does it have anything to do with Wisconsin. They said they did not feel comfortable issuing me a license based on the fact that my program did not approve on my year of internship. Do you know anything about the other states? This other respond to this thread it was mentioned that Georgia might be one. I have never heard of Georgia as a state that issues license only after a year of internship for IMGs from Caribbean.

You're joking, right? It has everything to do with it and, in fact, you'll have to explain that denial to any other state you apply to. But imagine you were not granted licensure in Wisconsin because of a major criminal offense - do you think that's not relevant to your other applications? You didn't give us much to go on, so we're limited in our ability to help you.

Now that you've clarified that Wisconsin denied you for not being able to verify even a year of PGY training, I can tell you with certainty that every state is going to be difficult. Maybe Georgia (with their new rules) would allow you limited practice privileges.

I thought you just said you don't have a year of internship? Isn't that why Wisconsin didn't approve your application?

Thank you greatly for your response. I do not have any major infractions on my record. So you seem to be saying that Georgia might be the way to go and first to apply rather that Virgin Islands or Puerto rico ha? Do you or does anyone know the fastest route to apply for this licensure?

Reading your past posts, you never satisfactorily completed a year of residency. You won't be able to get a license. Sorry.

After reviewing your old posts (from back in 2010-2011), as @ThoracicGuy notes, it appears that you did not satisfactorily complete your first intern year in FM and the program wanted you to repeat the year, so you switched to a different FM program and they fired you.

Therefore without satisfactorily completing an intern year in either program you are ineligible for a medical license,

but ga will still require a completed 1st year and you have to come from one of the schools on the cali list…and its not necessarily retroactive…if you graduated in 2010 then the only caribbean schools would be sgu, ross, auc, and saba.

He didn't graduate in 2010; it looks like it was at least 7 years ago, from earlier posts.

Not to be pedantic, or beat a dead horse, but all you have on your record is red flags. About the only thing you can honestly say is that you've never had a license or hospital privileges revoked, but that's because you've never had either of them to be taken away. You have quit or been fired from 2 different residency program and been unable to find a 3rd residency spot (through the Match or Scramble/SOAP) since. While you appear to have completed 12 calendar months of training, nobody who knows what they're talking about would agree that you've completed a full year of residency training.

If you are a US-IMG, I'm afraid it's all over now for you in medicine unless you can find a job in Grenada or Dominica. If you're an actual Foreign MD, your best bet for practicing medicine is to go back home if you can. It's time to move on.
