My school does not have pre-med advisors and I am not sure what is expected of the student when shadowing someone. Is this a regular event(once a week thing) or just once or twice? Also, how many hours does the student usually do this for? Thanks for any help recieved!!!

Hi Dray,
I'm assuming you're asking about shadowing a doctor that you've personally arranged something with...If so, it all depends on how much the doctor is willing to have you around. I would say that once a week for four-six hours would be convenient for both you and the doctor. As far as what is expected of you, nothing really, other than to pay attention and you getting a chance to ask some questions about the life of a doctor, their opinions on health care, etc. Just make sure that the doctor is comfortable and okay with the schedule you guys set.

Hope this helps.
