Ok, how do you even follow up on a conversation after that? I couldn't get those images out of my head for days. Well, it's snowing for the first time since December 8th here is DSM. I'm just hoping that there's some snow in Colorado when I'm skiing in Vail next week. 😛 🙂 Any mountain skiiers out there? This is going to be my first time skiing in the mountains and my boyfriend and the people that I'm going with are threatening to...no...they're dragging me to the china bowls. Joy. Any advice for the novice skiier?
Oh yea...but if you want to ski a REAL resort...come to Utah. Greatest snow on earth. In fact, if you don't know how to ski and you live in Utah, you could be arrested. :meanie: Have fun. 👍 I'm going to miss the rockies when I go to DMU. Oh well. They aren't going anywhere.

So who here will be hiting the gym with me religiously??? I was very impressed with it on my interview.

I thought it was a great gym! I hope we get enough time to go there enough!

That's my goal but I'd like someone to go with.

I can assure you that I will be at the gym 5 days a week. So you can count on me being there. I'm almost ashamed to admit this, but one of the factors that really dropped KCOM on my list (aside from the teeny tiny town) was their embarrassingly small and out of date gym. I honestly require very little to workout, but come on now. If I'm going to be studying/going to class 70 hours a week, I need a little relief at the gym.

Looking forward to next year more and more everyday. Even though I KNOW that DMU won't be sending anything to us until Spring, I still continue to check the mailbox with just a glimmer of hope. Pathetic.

Quick question:
Does anyone know the policy on friends/girlfriend/spouses working out in the gym?

I was told that my wife could workout for free. Girlfriends and friends??? Doubtful without a fee. But that is a pure guess on my part.

i was told girlfriends/boyfriends can workout for free, and i will be there more days than i'm not. it was a factor for me too!

You must be married. You will have to show proof in order to get your husband/wife a pass to get into the gym. Also, kids under 16 are not allowed.

I have had the pleasure & pain of skiing CO a number of times...Rest assure that Vail has a top notch E.R.....as I learned a few years ago 🙁 ....Have a great time.

Cool. Fewer people is a good thing. Anyway, how crowded is the gym?

For the non-married, do yall think it possible to make the 40,000 +/- Gov loans cover everything? I'm hoping if I land a cheap living arrangement it can be done. Thoughts?

I doubt it, but I'm sure as hell hoping so. Might be a better question to ask some of the current students. I'd be curious to know as well.

Isn't tuition and the rest atleast 32K a year? If I'm doing the math right that's 8K a year to life on. That would be fairly tight.

Yep, I was looking at that the other day...needless to say, very depressing.

Thus, private loans here I come!

For the single folk, what in your number crunching would tip you over the edge of the 8k life money?

rent 5 or 6 hundred * 10 months= 5000 or 6000
food 400 a month*10 months=4000
health insurance? more money
entertainment? more money

400 a month for food is a bit high. How I currently live now, I don't come near that number.

Kevin Federline has officially replaced Celine Dion as my arch nemesis. For everyone's enjoyment, watch the following video. He truly is a diamond in the rough....and by diamond in the rough I really mean complete waste of space with little to no value to this world.

Enjoy:
Mr. Britney Spears

I never knew he existed until now. I feel, well, violated after watching that. Please tear my eyes out now. It never ended. That was just wrong.

But yeah, $400 seems high. I'm currently clipping along on a food budget of $100/month. I'm still optimistic the way I've got my budget lined out. I think I can pull it off w/o additional monies.

What I wonder are utility costs there. I only need to pay for electric where I'm currently at and the water and sewage are incorporated into the rent. That's one of my big variables.

You all know you were dancing with our good pal Keven while watching that video. How can one resist such a booty shaking tune?

Don't forget gas/insurance. Electric/water if needed. Clothes? Haircuts etc?

I plan on not bathing, brushing my teeth, or shaving in order to conserve water. Heat? Please, I'll load up on wool blankets and heavy sweaters. I think we should have a contest on who can spend the least amount of money per month.

Okay, no need for us to dive into a penny pinching prince(ss?) pissing contest (say that ten times fast 😱 ). I was just throwing the whole money topic out there to see if I might be missing something in my little rough draft of a budget that would tear it to pieces. Bouncing ideas off the SDN resource board.

Definitely not going to do that. I've just accepted that my life over the next 4-7 years will be one lived in debt, and it's really no big deal. It WILL get paid off, and I'll still be able to save money and go on vacations one day. I don't want to say that struggling will be fun, but it will definitely keep some of us grounded. I'm willing to bet we'll be living like kings/queens compared to many people in this world.....just a guess 🙄

Well, back to that earlier topic of movies to watch... I just finished this flick that is a little off the beaten path called 'Chumscrubber.' It covers an interesting sequence of events about prescription drug abuse amongst suburban teenagers with a pinch of hollywood artistic license thrown in. I thought it was pretty good.

I'm thinking we may as well live it up in school! It won't be so stressful that way. What's the difference between $200,000 and $400,000 under?

Around $400,000 I would start to worry about having my knee busted by a hammer in the following years... Good private and government loans won't cover all that money!

While I can't add anything, I laughed out loud.

Good to have another MN'er in the DMU Crew. Although, It may take some time to adjust to living in a "Southern State".....The food may be way too spicy 😉

I think my large collection of hot sauces may have adequately prepared me for the spicy food all the way down there in Iowa! Thanks all for being so welcoming… 😛

I am from New Prague, it is about 30 miles south of Burnsville...or 1 hour north of Mankato...I actually attend MSU-Mankato right now, so....that is that. Question, I am actually buying a condo and splitting it with another girl from MSU-Mankato...w/rent + utilities we would both be paying around $600 in the one I am looking at right now. Do you think that is really high for a condo? My parents are actually buying it, and we would be paying for the mortgage payment....any opinions?
