##--DMU Class Of 2010--## part 02

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yeah, I don't get it....at all. Anyways, I think I'm going to get owned on this test, but what can ya do.....it's already 11p.m. Any advice on Finnerty's chemical neuroanatomy???

There are two powerpoints on the 'Updated Crutch' folder with Finnerty and O'Connell's old questions. It seems like they hit the same/similar stuff all of the time, so that might be something to look at if you have an hour to spare. I don't think O'Connell's stuff will be too bad, but Finnerty's is probably going to be brutal for me.

Thanks! Finnerty's stuff will definitely make me look stupid.

Actually yes. Go onto Judy (through the portal and the link is next to the MP3 icon) and click on that. Go to Students on Judy and when that menu comes up, there is an "UPDATED CRUTCH". Click on that and use the study guide in there. It is 5 pages but it is really good. Quick summary on what everything does etc. It didn't take me that long at all. I just was looking at the practice questions, also on Judy, from his old tests and I GOT PWNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is really going to suck. Oh well, Phys and SPAL within 3 hours of each other...priceless. Buy ya'll had it worse. Going to hit the sack at about 1:45 and get up at 3:15. Need to hit that REM I guess. Don't want to look like a fool in front of my SPAL patient.
Remember, we are in the MEC tomorrow for the exam. Lates.

just go for the basics... that's all I can hope for anyway-

Here's to going from a 90+% to ~70% in 1 test...

90+??? Damn. You are a GOD to me my friend. This is one class I have been on the rollercoaster through out the semester. Did really good on the last test.....so that means I'm going down baby!! Up down up down....CRASH!

I think everyone is going to owned. The library was empty which was kind of surprising, I think everyone is just kind over it, like me 🙂

Who's ready to get smacked down. I know I am!!!

Need I say more? I need a smoke. 🙁

Grandma was in a good mood today. Hope she treated everyone well.

Happy Birthday jbone. You're almost as old as my dad. How does that make you feel?

Enjoy looking at skin diseases this weekend!

I think I know what $500 of next year's loan money is going towards...

Oh my dj, I think I love you. That made my day after getting raped in SPAL. And btw, about time you joined the 360 club. I'm already here waiting for you. Let me know if you get online and I'll smack you around a bit.

JBone-You worried about the Spurs? I thought Phoenix was a better matchup for you guys, we'll see though.

Hell ya I'm worried about the Spurs. But we weren't even supposed to be here so we are just going to be "wingin it". But we match up well with them and we'll give them all they can handle. It will be tough for them to win in Utah with all of the rabid fans. That is why they have home-court advantage and they really don't need to win in Utah.

JUST BOUGHT MY TICKETS FOR MONDAYS GAME (May 28th in Utah)!! I have a lot of screaming to do! My own birthday gift....for myself!!:hardy:

Hello my children,
quick question. For the PD exam on Monday, are the slides posted on Blackboard from the dept. all the diseases we need to know?? Because I noticed that on Judy, there are more diseases than what the PD dept. gave us. Any clue people??

I noticed the same thing. From what other people have said, only the stuff on Blackboard are fair game. Some of it changed over since Dr. Carney did a lot of lectures this year and picked out many of the pictures. I looked at the Blackboard slides and my book, stopped looking at the Judy stuff because a bunch of it won't be on the test.

I heard that there are 106 diseases represented on the ppt - I haven't counted but with all the repeats it probably is about that many. So if you know all the diseases on the ppt. then you'll get >100%. Don't worry about any others-

This is what Carney told a buddy of mine during PD lab last week

Something tells me that Lupus will be on the test tomorrow, yet it isn't on the powerpoint. We've been beaten over the head with it and I'm pretty sure everyone knows what it looks like, but just a thought.

Agreed. Don't forget what jaundice looks like either-

JBone-Played well except for that 2nd quarter. Especially impressive since it was in SA. Might actually turn out to be an interesting series.

"The visual recognition exam will be multiple choice in groups of 25. So you will see a picture and have a list of 25 items to choose from before making your diagnosis."

So, we have choices A-Y to choose from? or is it a write-in test. I don't get it?

Just counted and got around 147 diseases without repeats counted. The PP should be MORE than enough. I hope. :scared:

Don't hold me to this, but I thought (from talking with 2nd years) that the test was broken up with blocks where you had a question bank for X number of pictures. Thus, it was more of a matching situation. Who knows if this is still accurate.

Either way, I'm purely studying from the powerpoint. If they pull diseases not from the posted powerpoint, then what the hell was the point of even providing the powerpoint. That would be like lecturing on a certain set of material and then pulling questions from something completely unrelated.

Hopefully, everyone kicks ass tomorrow and the average is something like 95%.

I would think over, that was a pretty easy test. Somethings weren't covered but were intuitive enough from the answers that you could get the right answer. I believe most people will get extra credit, then again, I'm sure some people went in there cold.

Aye I agree, I'll bet that the average will be right around 100%..... you could miss 10 and still get 100 and I bet most people will nail this test.

Anyone check out the announcements from Lecture 21 - Geriatrics notepool? Apparently attendance was taken... I wonder how many people actually showed up...

They took attendance why?? Attendance isn't required, so why on God's green earth would you even take it???

And I definitely agree about column 76-100. I alredy know I missed a couple there, but I'm sure the bonus will make up for it.

Apparently someone wasn't happy with the low attendance...

It gets better: the attendance sheet was "sent to the deans"

Just wondered if anyone else saw that; I doubt that anything will happen anyway, just curious what the motivation behind something like that is.

Edit: Maybe they are doing a little research into mandatory attendance...? Who knows-

Then maybe they can also do a little research into the class averages.

I think Phys has the right idea with the question about a self study path. Not a bad idea.

I think for some reason that professors have the wrong impression of the people who do not attend class. It seems as if they think that we do not put the time in and are just sleeping in or playing XBOX when nothing could be furthur from the truth. From the people I know who do not attend class they put in 10 + hours per day of studying as do I almost 7 days a week. It is not that we are trying to disresepct the professors by not attending lecture it is just that medical school is very tough and you need to get through it any way you can. My grades have actually gone up since stopping attending class. Just my $.02.

Well said. I'll add that not attending class doesn't mean that we don't necessarily care about the subject matter, but that we may have 2+ tests or other mandatory things going on during the week that are more pressing and require more attention than lecture. It's not a slight towards the professors, though some may take it that way...

All very good points, and I'd be willing to bet that they're the sentiments of roughly 85% of the class. Unfortunately, that damn vocal minority often gets people's attention.

I honestly believe that if they were to go to a mandatory attendance, then they would see a drastic reduction in apps. It may not occur immediately, but it would definitly occur within 2-3 years and stay that way. Ultimately, it would only deeply hinder the quality of DMU.

Here's to hoping none of this is the case.

That was the first thing I read and it definitely rubbed me the wrong was, especially the part about those that were in clas will be the ones that are there for their patients. I definitely did not feel that comment was necessary or true. I wonder if these same paople that have problems with our attendance have always felt like this or does our class have particularly low attendance. That would be interesting to know.
And DJ, 76-100 owned me as well. It took me longest time time to realize that the pitting fingernail was a fingernail, I though it was a tongue for the lonest time:idea:

That comment rubbed me the wrong way as well. I actually knew that they took attendance the day after it happened, I just didn't think a whole lot of it. What's even more interesting is that the day that attendance was taken was the same day of the OMM written exam. So it wouldn't be particularly surprising that people would want to be studying during that time.

The comment about test averages dropping with mandatory class is right on, in my opinion. I wouldn't be surprised to see a 3-5% drop across the board if mandatory class was implemented. I think that one of the reasons I chose this school over others was the flexibility. Mandatory class would not only be silly, but also somewhat unfair. It would be like signing up for one thing and getting something completely different. I didn't come here thinking that I would rather self-study, but this is what works for me and it's worked out quite well.

Plus, professors keep mentioning that we're one of the top classes in years. Don't you think that maybe that would translate into better board scores? Better residencies? Maybe make DMU's match list even that more impressive? Just some food for thought.

I think it was right around the 40th second before the lightbulb suddenly went off on me for that one as well. I could've sworn it was a tongue. Unfortunately, I didn't recall that psoriasis can lead to it.

LOL. Nothing but respect for the stalagmite Doc.

The dude is the man. I enjoy listening to his lectures.

Every single lecture of his has been solid. Anybody hear the one where he faked a seizure? That was my favorite I'm thinking.

Where are the mp3s for lectures 27 and 28? Can't find them on the Portal.

Can someone please motivate me to stay focused for this last exam????????????

Haha...please. I still have my SPAL, and I've almost completely checked out. Not a good idea, I know, but how difficult is it to study when you know there are only 3 days left?!?

If anyone wants to have a few celebratory drinks, I'll be at El Bait Shop at 1 having lunch and drinking barley pops...

WE MADE IT GUYS!
