Dmu Interview!!!!!! *Merged Edition*

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I got the secondary invite on the 08/07. I think I submitted the secondary application the next day, I can't remember. It was right away though. And then I got the interview invite on 08/11.

So do they not wait for the LOR's before making an interview decision? Or was this one of those fast track interviews? Or do they review your app and if they're still unsure they wait for the LOR's before making an interview decision? Seems like an awful lot of reviewing apps.

I've decided to stay with a host instead of doing the hotel thing. Also I found rental car rates are dirt cheap up in IA. To avoid imposing too much on my host, I'm getting the rental car (it's only $10.99 or $11.00 for the 1 class above it).

Is it typically customary to take towels with you when you crash @ a host? I'm trying to travel light.

Which rental car company are you going with that has such cheap rates?

I travel every week for work so I do a lot of looking around for travel deals, even though I expense all my travel. I found the car deal through southwest.com which is an airline but they also do car & hotel. Their rates were cheaper than kayak which searches a bunch of sites.

Goto southwest.com and click on car (it defaults to air). Then type Des Moines (or DSM) in the city. Keep in mind that tax adds another few dollars to the final bill.

So I'll have a car. If anyone needs a ride let me know. I get into DSM late Thursday evening on 9/21 at approx 8pm.

BTW, this is my first time staying with a host. For my other interviews I got a hotel room but am now tired of having to pay a chunk of change everywhere.

I think so. In the past I brought my own towels and sleeping bag, but I drove to the interview. You might contact your host and just ask them what you should bring... it's an innocent enough question.

Where can we find a list of possible student hosts?

Thanks.

Well, another invite...cash woes. Oct. 12th.

So far I have AZCOM, WVSOM, KCUMB and now DMU. I wish they were more spread out so that I could eliminate some if I happen to get an acceptance from KCUMB after my 9/11 interview.

But I will interview until I get accepted!....I'm so broke though!😕

wow 4 interviews already! I havent even gotten one yet. Well good luck!

Any DMU current students willing to host me for next Friday (09/15). I just got the list from DMU today and emailed one of the hosts and he already had a student on that day. I realized that I got the list late and I imagine most hosts are booked so I am posting this message. If not what hotel do you guys recommend. I think I am going to rent a car.

The more interviews the better. Be grateful. Although if you're looking to get rid of one, feel free to pass them my way 😉

Congrats on you interviews. Anyone mind sharing your stats. I will be applying next year. 13+ years as a paramedic, 3.71 GPA, 3.52 sci, etc. I will apply broadly, as I will be 43.

Yeah, I got 4 too! 3 in Sept. and 1 in Oct. Looks like I'll be seeing you at KCUMB on 9/11 and WVSOM on 9/25. G'luck all

peace

DMU is all you need. You'll see. 👍 😉

I hate to say it, but that might be kind of hard week to find student hosts because we have our white coat ceremony on that saturday, so a lot of us have family in town for that. Well, I do anyways.

I just got my 2nd interview invite today at NSU! Hooray! It's my number one. So far I have:

DMU October 5 (DMU is my #3)
NSU October 11 (My #1)

I am feeling broke as well. $460 for my DMU plane ticket alone!! I am staying with a host at least so I won't have to pay for a hotel.

My NSU plane ticket was $260 and my in-laws live in Ft. Lauderdale so I won't have to stay in a hotel there either. My wife is a little grouchy though that I get to see her family and she doesn't.

this is nice to hear! (to the person who replied to me w/the <3.4gpa) thanks and good luck to all!

Didn't you start another thread with this same info?

Anyone interviewing on October 12th? I was on 9/29, but I had to reschedule because of a national conference for research.

Congrats everyone!

I recieved a fast track interview email and am scheduled for Sept 15. Trying to find a couple activities to do after the interview sin eI don't fly out until 6AM on Saturday. Anybody know of some good things to do?

PS. As an Oregonian who doesn't have an accent (hehheh), I say deh moyne. I think it's far enough south to not get the Minnesoooota influence, jaa?

How long after submitting secondaries/being contacted by the school, are you guys hearing back. I'm wondering if I am not being looked at since I am a august retaker, however I thought the 25 I had from april could score me at least one interview which would be quite the confidence booster. Well gl all with interview, I cross my finger and hope for the best.

Thanks for info. Sigh..... waiting sucks.

If anyone wants to stay with me, I have a really comfy new futon 🙂 I didn't know anything about Des Moines or DMU before I had my interview and I found it really helpful to stay with a student. If you want a place to stay, you can PM me.

Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhh (Lil John) I finally got my DMU interview invite. I'll be interviewing on the 12 of Oct. See you there and everyone else interviewing that day. I'm pretty excited about DMU bc of all the positive feedback about the school. I'll have to see about Des Moines though. I'm coming from San Diego CA so this is most likely going to be a culture shock for me. Good luck to everyone again and I'll see you fellow SDNers that day. Okaaaaayyyyyyyy (Lil John again)

Woo Hoo. Just got the interview invite today while I was interviewing at KCUMB. Its for October 19th though (I don't want to wait). DMU is my #1. I even spoke to a few students at KCUMB who interviewed at DMU and said it was amazing. Can't wait. Keep em coming!!!

yay!!! i got my first invite today and it's to DMU!! wooo!

I moved here after living in San Diego for 19 years. It's really not that bad, culture wise. However, it is starting to get a little colder. Let me know if you have any questions. There are 2 other people from my class who are from Orange County and they seem to think the same as me, Des Moines is not all that bad.

On our interview day, we have to get to the "4. Student Education Center (SEC)" by 8:30am, correct? And once inside the SEC it should be fairly easy to find the Enrollment Management Offices?

Thanks!!

once you walk in, go on upstairs (it will be straight in front of you when you walk in the lower entrance). once you are upstairs, it is the glassed in offices that are to the left of the stairs (if you are facing the windows to the outside). If is pretty easy to find, but if you have trouble you can ask anyone and they will help you out.

I am leaving tomorrow (Thursday)
Good luck on the interview. Give us some feedback.

I'll see what I can do... I have to drive 6-7 hours after my interview so odds of getting it posted tomorrow night aren't great.

But I'm at my Student Host's house, he's really nice and enthusiastic.

I thought that DMU was my #3 as well. After the visit it was #1 fast.

Are you a fellow cougar?

Yep! I'm a cougar! I'm actually staying with a BYU grad for my interview! He's from c/o 2010.

Hey everyone, as a third year DMU student (with nothing better to do, apparently), I just wanted to drop some input. I also used to do interviews and tours, so I kind of know what's going on.

First of all, Des Moines is a cool enough place. I'm from Minneapolis and I was used to doing a lot around town, but Des Moines has all you need. Especially since you're not going to have time to do it all anyway.

As for your interview: just relax. DMU feels like home. Everyone is friendly and helpful. You can talk to anyone and ask all the questions you like. You need to get a feel for the atmosphere more than anything, so just have fun. The interview is laid back. Usually it is a professor, clinician, and a student. They're not there to make you sweat, just to get to know you.

Another point of advice: stay with a host student for your interview. They will answer your questions, show you around town, and save you money! It's a great resource, so take advantage!

I'll be happy to answer anyone's questions, but I'm not on SDN often, so you can e-mail me at [email protected].

Best of luck to all of you!

True that! Krista was in on my interview and actually let me in! :meanie: Really though, the interview was a great experience. Seems like yesterday...now I spend my life in the library trying to pound this Bio chem. into my small brain. Thanks a lot Krista. Thanks a lot. 👍 😀

Well, I'm leaving tomorrow (14th) for an interview on Friday (15th). I will be renting a car. If anyone needs a ride from the airport or wants to carpool to the interview, PM me.

Congrats to everyone and good luck!

I am flying in today too for tomorrow's interview. I will also be renting a car, but I think my flight does not arrive until 10 pm.
I will see you Friday hamiltong.
Good luck

do all of you recommend renting cars? I was going to stay in a hotel downtown and then take a hotel shuttel to/from the airport and to/from the school...is this a bad idea? I also dont even think that I can rent a car since I'm under 25...😳

I am over 25 and the rental costs $17 so I wasn't going to depend on the shuttle when it is that cheap to get a car. If you are interviewing tomorrow I will be glad to give you a ride from the hotel to school and back. I have just become too much of an american now to go back to public transportation.

You can rent...There's an additional $20/day young driver's fee. I'm staying at a hotel that doesn't have a shuttle, and I don't want to be at the mercy of an incompetent cabby even if DMU is a mile away. I could walk perhaps? heh...

Which hotel are you staying. like I said to Darch I would be glad to give a ride to anyone to and from school tomorrow.
